Because on old XSReality every single article and news item had people going "first!" or "first post". So when the relaunch came, Sujoy wanted to get rid of that and thus it was dealt with. Rather successfully as you hardly ever see it now, except when you do it :(

Quakecon 2011 was definitely the most professionally run competition I've ever been to.

It was a pleasure just to be able to play there. The computers were perfect, the monitors were great and I had heaps of desk space. There were plenty of LAN servers and I never received one bit of lag.

The tourney area was away from the herds of people and relatively quiet considering where we were.

Even though I got absolutely smashed, I'd go again in a second if everything was run the same way. To all the admins/volunteers that made it all happen: thank you.

Shame you got smashed though.

Gl with the little one on the way!!! Yes it is tough but another little quaker is a worth while experience imo!!

Secondly I as a spectator was ecstatic with the coverage and look forward to even better coverage next year, though I am hoping to make my way back to quakecon again next year. I haven't been since 2004 and then WoW took control of my life till this year sadly enough! After reading all about last years qcon and then witnessing it this year via the streams I am extremely pleased with the outcome!

Thank you all on the ql.tv team...and hopefully this wont be bad but thank you to the CSN staff...between both crews and all the work you ALL put in, I, as a spectator from home...had a very enjoyable experience!!

Obviously the improvement of stream and coverage this year was HUGE and very successful.
The schedule as Scotsman said was not the best ,working with admins to get more games streamed or less jumps over hourly would be nice.
As spectator of quakecon i have to say thank you to ALL staff made hard work to provide us good coverage of the event.

what the fuck is with you guys? the whole thing was complete garbage? you can't compare that to events like DH and IEM. Piss poor coverage. All those breaks in between matches, the viewers missing almost all group stage games....

If you add in the streaming we did after-hours of demos, we covered far more games than you suggest. Still, we definitely want to improve the schedule as I mentioned in the article. In my mind, our coverage was simply an improvement over last year and probably the best QCon coverage to date. That said, we do not even try to compare ourselves to other coverage crews of other LANs. We know there is a pretty big difference.

An important distinction: DreamHack and ESL coverage of IEM are professional companies that run their own tournaments for a living (lvl^ fits in somewhere as excellent broadcasting talent, but the tournament, equipment and event planning tends to be handled by the professional side from what I understand (I could have heard wrongly though)).

QuakeCon, including its coverage crew, were born out of people volunteering their time and expertise. Granted, this year, we had money for better equipment and didn't have to worry so much about the cost of our food and stay, but we're still volunteers at heart.

When we go home, we're back to our mundane 8-to-5 jobs or college studies. ESL people, for example, go back to their jobs at ESL. There will probably always be a difference and quite frankly I expect ESL or DH coverage to always be better for these reasons.

I'm just happy you listened to the majority of spectators and learned how to do things properly instead of the 'my way or the highway' approach. You learned how to cast TDM and worked for us to get them to stream lots of semi-finals matches instead of having them at the same time.

And were pretty good when you cast with 2GD as being the replacement 'obvious excitement guy'

The only thing that bothered me was:
the stream fucked up sometimes
the schedule had too many gaps without shit happening

I commend you on streaming demos throughout the night and getting those very nice interviews.

this was the best quakecon coverage ever and if you fix the mistakes above and get a pro player to cast with you and take turns *never yourself + jehar at the same time* then you could be on the same lvl as trance and his crew..

ive seen better and much worse aswell, but i admire the casters works, thanks for your effort!

Greased, you guys did a great job. Everyone behind the scenes and you and 2gd and jehar casting. Everyone did a wonderful job. I know there really isn't anything you could have done about the schedule, expecting delays and all, so I can't really complain about that. It's rare to have a tournament actually start on time. Anyway, maybe a tighter schedule next year to show more games will make it even better next year, that's really the only thing that could have been better from a spectator POV for me anyway. Thanks again and great job everyone!

From what I've caught back up on so far, coverage quality from last year is a huge improvement. A lot could be done with scheduling as you mentioned, and getting a pro player here or there to hop in on some coverage, but you guys are definitely headed in the right direction.

Pity Adren wouldn't actually come out and say anything to anyone. I heard from Alex no one saw him the entire event. Silly kids these days.

Again though, GL on being a dad, can't wait to hang out at the stage and watch group stages while trying to recover from alcohol poisoning. :)

Rather late, but I just wanted to say that you guys did an amazing job this past Quakecon. Everything looked and ran great. There was great communication between the staff and you guys, and I want to applaud you for making our job as tournament admins easier. Let's also not forget to mention stevo, who is one the best admins I have worked with. We kept each other in line last year and tried our best to make the matches people wanted to see happen. Can't wait to see you guys again this year! Thanks,
