I second thought I don't really like Cherry MX Blue switches. I am used to simplified type 1 Clicky ALPS on my Omnikey remake (Avant Stellar).

The cherry mx blues have it so that the release point is higher than the actuation point which feels lagged to me as I have to release the key a bit before I can press it again. I suppose this would prevent double key typos in typing but for gaming this really scares me. Maybe I could get used to them but don't really want to.

I would like to try browns and blacks, reds being just like blacks except they take less force to press.

My CVT Avant is broken right now, the f key became really unstable and when I tried to fix it I screwed it up. Now I will have to desolder the switch and replace it, luckily I have another older Avant lying around that I can mine parts from.

The worst part is having to use this POS dome switch keyboard as a loner in the mean time. It has the worst roll over I have ever experienced, if I am holding shift to walk and my forward key, I cannot strafe.

If I am holding a strafe key and forward, I cannot select the LG. There a bunch more situations like this that make it just feel absolutely shit. Like I never learn exactly when the keyboard is going to fuck up; my opponents probably think I've gone batshit because I was a reasonably good player and now I like stop moving to switch weapons :-(

I fixed my Avant Stellar!! I desoldered a switch from my old avant and soldered it into this one.

I had never done any soldering in my life so I am tres proud.

As long as you have a decent enough keyboard that registers what buttons you hit and does not fuck up the movement that supports aim, a keyboard has absolutely nothing to do with accuracies.

Statements like yours are what such companies want: Get this razer product and you will simply play better. Their arguments couldn't be any more stupid and personally, their quality couldn't be any less good either. Lies everywhere, saying a good keyboard should run on USB but it should have 1000 Hz polling rate, or if they bring a decent PS/2 keyboard saying that their keyboard is the only one in the world that has nkro... I actually think the same as you.
I tried tactile browns too, but to only press them half way until they reach the "tactile" is motorical harder than pressing them all the way down.
That's why i modded my keys to travel only the way it needs to register.
Done that on my 6gv2 and now with my new filco tenkeyless. :D
As blacks are linear, it makes it easier to hold the keys down too.

But it is important to get the right equipment, and for you to say that it doesn't matter about keyboards is a little nuts, everyone has their own specific keyboard which they feel best with, ask the pros. Why do you think stermy only wanted to play with the Fatal1ty keyboard for years, and bought loads of them , Why did sujoy have a specific keypad when he played Q1? Both great aimers. Surely these guys knew something.. Also great aimers have great movement, and it is alot in keyboard timing and movement.

Of course you will play better with equipment you feel comfortable with, but that is also exactly where the argument must stop. A person could feel comfortable with a 1000$ Razer keyboard or a 10$ generic keyboard and either guy's game will be just fine. I got the impression that in this discussion that more "professional" keyboards will yield higher accuracies (comment above), which I think is bs and everyone will be fine with whatever they will feel comfortable with.

situation: you are in LG battle and aim alot with strafing, now that you can react quicker to the movements of your enemy, you hit 0,001% more than you would with rubberdome keyboards in the same situation.

Fact is that no matter if you use a mechanical keyboard or a standard rubber dome keyboard or a thin laptop keyboard, you will be able to hit a button within such a short amount of time that it doesn't matter at all if it's mechanical or not. All you need is a keyboard that is good enough so that you can get used to it and actually register a keystroke when you hit a key.

Mechanical keyboards are only better because they require less force, give (like buckling spring, cherry brown or cherry blue) better feedback whether or not a keytroke is registered and therefor because they are less tiring. And ofc because they just last and last forever.

What the fuck, you can't re-map the SteelSeries key. Not everyone is a retard, I actually use my Windows key all the time.

There is no "best" keyboard, it's personal preference. There are just some that work (or last) and some that do not. If you're the guy who hacks a normal keyboard to pieces quickly or if you just enjoy good, less tiring keyboard mechanics you might want to go for some kind of mechanical keyboard maybe.

You implicitly give the answer yourself: If there is a "best" keyboard, it has no shit that no one needs. Good keys that one actually needs is what you should spend your money on. If you want to burn money go for backlight shit or macro keys or whatnot, but don't expect any special "gamer" keyboard that comes with this shit to peform any better. Most such models are just shit and only sell image by using weird names, progamer sponsorship and over the top, non honest designs.
The steelseries top model and razer top model for example use Cherry mechanical switches so if you want to save some money, why not go for a Cherry G-80 -- you get the same good keys.

Last but not least, a big LOL to people who spend their money on keyboards like the Logitech G15 with it's three thousand keys and pathetic, useless mini display. If for good reasons this keyboard is good for you, okay, but if you bought it to get any better in the game you play... LOL. :ugly:

I don't believe they carry one. My old as fuck UltraX Flat is still working fine, I bought this one specifically because it did not have a numpad. Well, one that doesn't take up space anyway, cause it has one integrated on the normal keys (789uiojklm) which you activate when enabling numlock. Didn't take that much time to get used to. And separate numpads are dirt cheap if you can't get used to the integrated one.

O i c a built in numpad nice. It is a USB, have u tried to run it at a higher polling rate?

May just get one of these to see how it goes. Does it have antighosting? If so do you know if jkl; work with anitghosting too, cus I am on that side of the keyboard...

I have not tried changing the polling rate. There's no mention of any antighosting in the product description. But I have not noticed any combinations of keys pressed resulting in something not registering.

And now you finally come back and eventually ask the real question: "Hey guys, I bought the Sidewinder X4 keyboard. It's cool, isn't it? It really rocks, right?"

Sidewinder x4 costs about 40 Euros from what I've seen. I tried it once and it's quite simply a normal rubber dome standard keyboard like every other ten bucks keyboard. It's ugly, it has keys that no one ever needs and it's design couldn't be less honest.

If your initial question was a serious one and if you weren't in fact just looking for people saying you just recently bought an awesome keyboard, you should read some of the replies in this thread and consider returning that x4 thingy and spending your hard earned money on one of the keyboards that were -- for good reasons -- recommended in here.

The "Das Keyboard II" is a Cherry G81-3000 LRNDE-2. I own them both. Das Keyboard II has exact the same hardware but a lot heavier in price due to the non-existend key-labeling.

I started using a natural (split) keyboard in 1999 for q3 and have stuck with them ever since.. more room, more comfortable angle for wrists as the name implies it really does just seem more natural..

was about to buy the "logitech illuminated" a few month ago but in the last moment i was reading something about certain key combinations not working

when i googled after that i didnt knew if i should laugh or be shocked - but i was certain to never buy something from logitech ever again; since the illuminated was so popular with gamers right after its release, they instantly cancelled production to start a second version with combinations like w+shift+space locked that are typically used while playing games. when asked about this they announced such key-combinations are a feature of their gaming series hardware (wich is keyoverloadcrap and expensive) and thus not available on the standart keyboards

some random cheap ass dell quiet keyboard but its mechanical and i've had absolutely no issues with it

I love my Steelseries 7g, although the noise does bother my surroundings quite a bit. You could probably argue that it's overpriced too.

I can tell the difference in responsiveness (and I definitely play and type noticeably better) between this and my older keyboard, but that might be because my old keyboard was really crap, even by membrane keyboards standards.
I suspect this is the case because the difference is really huge (in some games for example I can do things consistently that I had a hard time doing before).

And well, I've definitely grown addicted to the mechanical keyboard feel.

PS: I have a small issue with this keyboard though, sometimes when I press "z" once it will do "zz" instead of "z" (only does it with zqsd), when this happens I have to press the four keys really hard and hold them down while shaking the keys a bit. After that it's fixed for a while (at the very least a week). It has started to happen 2 months ago (and the keyboard is not even one year old).
I don't notice this in Quake but I do in UT or AoC because I will randomly dodge in a direction without wanting to. Bit disappointing for a 115€ keyboard, but easy to fix and I cba returning it (2 years warranty so I've got time to change my mind)

Had a Filco Majestouch with Blues for about 8 months, but recently picked up a Filco Linear R tenkeyless (Cherry MX Reds). Really loving it -- I never really had an issue with the blues for FPS but the red is slightly nicer. Haven't decided which I prefer for generally typing/programming etc. yet though.

Also picked up some nice engraved PBT keycaps (sorry badly-lit phone pic).

Still using a old key tronic ps2 keyboard. No broken keys or any retarded short-cut keys on it.

I have used my Sidewinder X4 for 1 week now and I'm satisfied.
However, I could do without most of the extra keys.

I actually like mx cherry blue switches. They work just fine for gaming (for me at least), and are amazing for typing on (once you retrain yourself to not slam the keys all the way down to the bottom every time. I have wrist injuries that used to cause me moderate pain after about 10 minutes of typing. Has gotten 1000x better since changing over to tactile switches.

Just got my 6gv2, i find it pretty nice for typing and gaming. Linear switches feel awesome, easier to press than bumpy/tactile keys.

Unfortunately had to send it back because they sent me the wrong layout.
One thing i noticed is that the laser etched keys become dirty very fast. Used it for 2 days and the movement keys were brown already, and couldn't clean it.

just bought the Meka G1, seems pretty good, typing with it now. It's nearly identical to the 6gv2 (including the removed left windows key). It doesn't have that "ringing" sound when you bottom out the key. Has 4 cables, two for audio, two usb (one for keyboard, one for the usb hub). The ps/2 adapter comes pre-plugged, like suggesting it's use for the improved rollover. It's a bit taller than standard keyboards, but comes with a wrist rest.

ive used expensive keyboards and cheap keyboards at different functions and house parties and stuff. maybe 10 years ago things were different, but back then keyboard was a keyboard, $50 or $10.

i havent used any of the high-priced keyboards in this thread, but i have used a classic logitech keyboard for the longest time and aside from the cheap construction i have yet to find a more reliable keyboard, and ive tried a few expensive ones.

i think there is some merit to the argument of keyboards improving your play. until you experiment with a lot of keyboards you won't find what is most comfortable to you, which will be the biggest improvement in your game. whether you'll be comfortable with a $10 keyboard or a $125 keyboard is your choice to make - personally i play pretty damn good with a cheap keyboard that i don't have to worry about breaking because of the price tag.

If people are hoping to buy a new keyboard simply to improve their play then they'll probably be pretty disappointed. In FPS games in particular, rubber domes are fine. Maybe more tiring, but they won't really affect your performance.

If you use your computer as much as the average gamer though, then you will notice the difference in build quality, longevity, and just how extremely nice mechanical keyboards are to type on. It's definitely worth it, and it will improve your quality of life/enjoyment of gaming, but I wouldn't expect it to really improve your play.

I bought a bunch of those Razer mouse cord holders, and they are improving the shit out of my accuracy because they allow me to respond faster in LG fights in my experience in my personal opinion.

Which one? Razer Armadillo 1 or 2? With my WMO I've tied the cable together and stuck it to the wall, leaving enough slack to move the mouse. This removes almost all of the weight of the cable, does the thing you're talking about do the same or more?

You should strip the wmo cord and only keep the 4in1 cables which are inside the cord, wmo cord has 3 armored layers that you should cut if you are to play with it.

after you deleted the 3 armored layers you don't even notice the wmo is wiered =)

btw you can do the same trick with any other mouse i think, it's just that wmo has very thick 1st plastic armor layer.

ok I stripped it a bit, I only removed the plastic layer so far. I'm left with what looks like thin copper strands on top of a silver layer.

It already feels much better, much less weight and friction. Should I remove the copper? If so, what is a good way of doing it?

Oh and I also have a little bit of the plastic left right next to the mouse that I can't get to, probably need to remove the shell, I'm not sure how to do that. :x

ok, to cut th eplastic layer is very safe and easy because you have cooper layer under so you can't cunt the 'real' wier.

Now you have to cut the cooper slayer and the aluminium paper that is under this one.

Last night I removed the copper too, took me about an hour haha. I only have the aluminium paper left now, I'll remove that later. Thanks for the pic, it doesn't look too bad, I thought the 4 small wires would be seperate from each other.

i got one of those, they... work and that's about it. i got tired of using tape on my monitor to fix the cable, these are fine eventhough a little expensive for something so simple.

i still loop the cable once before fixing it in the armadillo, most people seem to do this anyway though.

i took the orange rubber strips off the side, no glue residue or anything so if the color doesn't appeal to you its ez to remove. has a few media buttons which is nice and is smaller than a standard keyboard lengthwise.

Sidewinder X4 is amazing (I have 2 of them =D), though I have black tape over the left-most keys so I don't accidentally hit them

Recieved my Filco Majestouch 2 Tenkeyless with Cherry MX Browns a few days ago. It's brilliant, so simple and minimalistic, it is more comfortable to have the mouse closer to the keyboard, and it feels and looks like it could survive an explosion :P build quality is second to none.

For gaming, I had small concerns that with the brown switches it would be too easy to press the wrong key and that it might be hard to doubletap keys. Nither of those were realised, it did feels slightly wierd at first, but I've had no problems, it's great to game on. I've only tried QL briefly but I'm thinking LG dodging will be easier wtih this ;)

Very comforatble to type on, even though I'm still bottoming out the keys because I'm so used to it, and when I try not to, I type slower, but I'm sure it will come in time. I've actually been taking the keyboard to work now, because after using it, I don't think I could go back to using membrane keyboards, especailly the cheap ones at work.

Edit: Oh and I also got the leather wrist rest, because when I use a keyboard I don't hover my hand in the air like some do, but rest it on the desk, so I kinda need one. (the G11 had a rubbish plastic thing that I used) It's great, it's not like traditional ones that are very squishy, it's just a soft material with a leather layer on top. Very comfortable, and the smell.... so good, lol

when playing is different, since you're hovering fingers on keys already and can control force easier, when typing you usually hammer the fingers on the keys.

Yeah it does seem very hard not to if you're typing fast. With games I found that I usually hold down a key all the way if I need to hold it, W to move forward to example, then tap other keys such as strafe.

Got my Noppoo Choc mini about one week ago.
It's relatively cheap for mecha and pretty awsome. If you don't mind about the "chinese touch" (keycap marking is crap) it's really a good product, and it's NKRO on USB .

The compact layout is pretty cool to play, you don't end up with your left hand miles away or keyboard on your lap.

what switches is that one? what's your opninions on the switches you have?

Blacks. I really like them, they are perfect for gaming, and for typing the fact they are stiffier doesn't disturb me. The linearity give them a good precision feeling.

The only comprison for me is blues, wich I have tried quickly, but I really prefer balcks. Might try brown, but honestly blacks really are cool for now.

are you planing to mod this KB so you can only push the key 2mm?

its POM keycaps... you wont get much better than that unless you have double layered keys wich are rare as fuck.

The keycap are really good indeed, but the brown/gold marking on it is shit, it fades away in no time.
Not that care much anyway, i dont watch my keyboard for typing and I dont even use a qwerty layout.

Im not sure what youre talking about but Noppo keycaps wont fade away unless you have some sandpaper fingers theres just no way you can make then worn out in such a low period of time, either that or you got a fake :p
