Have 1 tournament with all new maps and 1 tournament with all old maps.

and 2 tournaments a mix of old/new maps up to 5 maps only for each though..

First tournament should be:
Solid
Gothic Rage
Sorrow
Devlish
Concrete palace

These are all the new maps, so no matter the match streamed we will see new maps being played. This for $40 would be nice, but make sure a lot of ppl sign up or scrap the $. Have it like 30 ppl must join or if its under 30, u won't pay $40 to the winner.

i was thinking about that, but i didn't want to alienate the standard players. so i just thought of trying something different by having a huge map pool.

To be honest, you should do this tournament for europe. More exciting players and higher skill lvl for duel.

Also, having that many maps for each tournament is a fail. People just don't want to practice all those maps, a limit of 5 is best. 7 works too but is pushing it.

A show match with Tox vs k1llsen(DUEL) would be much appreciated, and have tox vs strenx vs k1llsen vs stermy 1v1 on thunderstruck or 2v2 CA would make me donate to you, rofl.

i dunno how paypal works with europe. and i dont want to pay the fees to convert usd to euros. and honestly, i know the european scene is bigger, but the n. american scene needs more events. thats why i'm focusing on n. america

slasher on Lo3 confirmed that he'll be doing more showmatches on MLG, so i'm sure he'll showcase the european players

edit: i just want to see how it will work out with this event. if it goes bad with the big map pool, then i will change it for the next cup

For NA duel scene to grow, you need to cultivate the crops. You have to make a special tournament for top tier CA/CTF/TDM/FFA players and offer money to the duel winner. Invitation only.


NO ACTUAL DUELERS. This will force the ca players to play duel for easy money, if they actually like it and the competition, they will switch over.

Former ca players that switched over to duel are: Rapha/k1llsen/zsx etc. Yep, i owned the shit out of rapha in ra3, now hes boss in duel, goddamn.

Make 1 tournament ALL ca top tier players. Make 1 tournament all top tier ctf players. Make 1 tournament all top tier FFA/tdm players.

Gather the top 3 from each tournament and place them in a final tournament to win the cash.

= New vicious duelers. (some of these ca/ctf/ffa/tdm only players have fucking nuts aim even though they are NA)

i'm not really familiar with any of the top players for ca/ctf/tdm

North America needs more events, yes. But adding maps that won't be played is a waste of time. Concrete Palace, Sorrow, Battleforged, and Solid are never played for duel, and Sorrow and Solid are 2v2 TDM maps more-so than Duel.

I would say make a 5-map pool in two different cups. Run them on separate days. One cup will be the 5 standard maps (blood run, campgrounds, furious heights, lost world, vertical vengeance) and will only be available to standard players (watch for aliasing). The other will be the premium cup with maps like, for example, aerowalk, blood run, furious heights, lost world, toxicity/hektik. Hell, make the premium 7 maps and add vertical vengeance and campgrounds. Either way, one GIANT pool will be nothing but chaos.

Or just do what is easiest and make a 5-7 map pool consisting of commonly-played maps. Everyone in North America who signs up for these kinds of events already has premium and pro to begin with, so I doubt standard players will be that much of an issue.

For the first ADL, QLRANKS.com will be used to seed players into the bracket. after that, seeding will be done based on the amount of rank points gained.

You do realize all that determines is the amount of points you have earned by an ELO system, right? Mortal1 is by no means the best player in the world, yet he's in the #1 spot because he just plays nobodies every hour on Blood Run. You should seed according to your past knowledge, or even get help from players. But for the sake of your tournament don't use a system that measures games played/points earned but not skill.

ELO will work in the future, though, when the ranks stabilize.

I agree that it is too big. Preferably remove the overplayed maps and keep the ones not normally found in tourneys so they at least get some playtime and to help distinguish from other tourneys while still having a map selection that doesn`t overwhelm. If you have underplayed and overplayed maps in the same pool, there`s not much of a point in having the underplayed maps since the op maps will be available.

Also, Zotac still uses Battleforged. So it`s not necessarily "never played". In addition, maps like Concrete Palace, Gothic Rage, etc. that do not get good reception in duel can always be used for 2v2 TDM. They`re still great maps, they just are promoted wrong, IMO.

I say swap solid out with almost lost(or even trinity if you REALLY want to go out there with different maps :S) and make this so that only NA players can play in it and this seems pretty legit.

how about dismemberment? really though, what is another unplayed map that premium, that you think is worthy?

Guess I didn't look over the list enough, yes dismemberment is decent. As far as the rest of the maps you mentioned concretepalace could be alright, I've played it some. Although I do think it was better in the previous version than what it is now but it still should be playable.

Yeah it was, second round when I lost I think I took a shit because I've never been shoutcasted before and got nervous. Bloodrun's my best map imo and I had -1 rofl. Almost pulled it together on DM6 tho. You had some GGs through the brackets, the dude really kept wanting to see you play lol.

I had 3 sets casted. I think that made me perform better, to be honest. My aim before the finals was on fire (I averaged something like 38+ lg and 50+ rail out of all the games :O)

Thumbs up to whoever organized this. It's good to see someone besides CSN trying to breathe some life into the NA quake scene. There were a lot of new faces on the stream tonight, which is a good thing. But those stream numbers... damn. 33-36 for the majority of the stream. Like 28 or so during semifinals or around there. Really depressing stream numbers (I understand that no one in Europe was probably watching) but still a great thing to have these small tournaments. So thanks to rumblepit or whomever put it together, and it was good to see so many new faces playing!

I had fun! I just wish I could have done better in the finals. Hopefully the experience will serve me better next time.
