Dude, ask for a week off, just travel to another country, alone, for 3 or 4 days, disconnect from your current routine, maybe go to Amsterdam, cheap hostal, visit museums, take walks, eat nice food, fall in love with every MILF in the street, get stoned a couple of nights, and just think everything over as many times as you need to come up with the best solution to your current problems.

Trust me on this one :P The key is travelling alone, it really cleanses the mind and lets you think clearly. When you go back you will have a totally different or fully reinforced approach to whatever problems you may have.

I've got a week off from the 12th Sept.. Defo can't afford a holiday (buying new tv soon).. But I will spend it relaxing etc. Maybe applying for Jobs.. Not sure yet :)

It's no use relaxing in your own home, you won't relax your mind and therefor you will not come up with clear thoughts about what you need to do with your life.

Seriously, forget about the TV, for now at least. Flights in Europe are about 50 € or cheaper, and you can live in Amsterdam for 50-60 € a day, even less in places like Prague.

I'm just back from a little travelling, flew to Split with no plans beyond a vision of travelling some. Ended up in a festival in Sibenik dancing till the sun came up with some awesome Croats and went absolutely batshit mental with thousands of people to a Bosnian ska band, enjoyed the beautiful beaches of Split & the immense heat, train'd it up to Zagreb and sat through a Catholic mass in the cathedral, enjoyed the night air & the plentiful bars, got to Munich and realised it's a shithole so headed back south :O)) spent nights chatting with Aussies, and the French, Germans and Slovaks, supped with a man with no arms but rid a bike on the night train from Zagreb to Split, got stuck on a train on the Sloevnian border & legged it across the tracks to a bar we'd seen with a German I'd met to buy some beer, both aggreeing we'd money & our passports so fuck it if the train left without us. I spent around £400, slept on the night trains, in a field, hostels and people's houses. Give me that over a TV anyday. Even if I'd spent a week on the beach sipping beer & reading a book I'd have been happy. Europe and travelling is so much better than this, the day to day, the grime.

Book a flight, buy some beer & just fuck it all. Nobody will know you, nobody will care. Just release.

You know it's not as fun as it sounds when you can't really chat up with random people.

If you have outgoing, open personality it's fun wherever you wind up. When I read such stories I'm actually jealous of such ability. Some of my friends make new acquaintances every time they go out or travel, it's fun when I'm with them, but if I'm alone it's quite hard to have fun such way cause I cant force myself to find interest in other people and I myself don't really shine friendliness around.

I'm no extrovert, you have to be actively looking not to in order not to socialize in those kinda situations. Buy a few beers & go with it. And I've always found it easier abroad, there's plenty people doing the same & you've shared experiences to get things rolling and no pressure if you do something stupid.

The best thing I ever learned was that most people are just as fucked up and as useless as yourself, even the pretty ones! I wish I’d understood that at a younger age.

there are people who are always travelling around ... they've been to all continents already, etc. don't really know what the beauty is in visiting all these places in such a rush ... but it's good to travel every once in a while, see some new things, but only together with someone else :-)

who said anything about rushing around? obviously rushing around and trying to complete a checklist defeats the whole purpose of unwinding and disconnecting :P and travelling with someone else is good for having fun and general lulz, but if you really want to step back, disconnect and see where your life is going and what you need to do to change direction (if necessary) then travelling alone is a must.

Not really, I'm pretty well qualified/experienced in my sector, I think it would be pretty easy to get another job.. It's just whether it will be better or worse than my current.

Well personally I think strong knowledge of any particular web programming language(php, java, c#, ruby, python or etc) is a must. Also exposure to some web frameworks(zend, spring, asp.net, django or etc). It's 90 % must for you to have some commercial experience(might be freelance) or home projects mentioned in your CV. So if you are a starter just try to develop and publish simple site(s). Other things for starters of course are passion for technology. If you will get into interview you should show that you passionate about this domain and show that you've done your homework(made a research about the company), it is a strong chance that you are going end up with an offer. Imho for starters it is enough.

my job. My manager would rather hand a document to scan to a colleague,in which he will then scan on MY computer. I finish my entire workload in under three hours and get constant bad looks when I browse google.com. Decent conversation is rare.

If you have some qualifications and experience, which seems to be case, then there shouldn't be a problem finding another.
