Well, pretty much everyone knew it, but Carmack expressed it himself during his keynote : "Quake Live has not been a business success".
And eventhough it does make them lose money, they apparently don't plan to shut it down.
About the next Quake, although it is not currently being developed, it will be developped internally.
I didn't see anyone talking about that and I thought it was a pretty interesting insight about the current state of the game.
