I dont think Virgin Media are that bad. I know of 2-3 people who have horrendous connections for online gaming but i live down the road from one of said warpers and my connection is perfect. In the UK i get 15 ms flat netgraph and in France/Holland 20ms, and then Germany is a touch higher but my netgraph is always pretty consistant. No complaints from me!

Currently bored of most games inc quakelive and SF series, which means I don't really play games anymore. Prefer the tech/communities behind them, but not lost my my passion for games. I just feel I been there and done it in better times and prefer not to tarnish my fond memories.

I kind of agree with some of your feelings towards gaming and been there done that etc.

Quake and online gaming i feel peaked in 2003 and has been in slow decline ever since. I even contributed by splitting away for a brief break myself but the pull Quake and online FPS has on me was too much to resist.

I find myself playing more PCWs with my team than publics (though i do troll CA servers for a warmup :-)))) maybe its the people over the game that makes it work. Usually if public gaming i play Battlefield Bad Company 2, really enjoyable public game at least when the teams aren't stacked by a clan. Tried it? Works for me and is plenty fun!

Arcades were a big part of my youth, going to play a game with people watching and endless challenges winner stays on.
Ever weekend was a like a lan. No money. Just pride.
Every few months arcade would have the latest games, with new jaw dropping hardware like Ridge Racer, Virtua Fighter, Daytona.
I was there and seen it all. I feel lucky to have been at a kid at that time.

huddled around a TV over a friends house playing mariokart/bomberman/SF2 all night on sleep overs.

That's what I'm saying, I have experienced the best times in gaming.
Online play doesn't compare to either of those expereinces.

No LAG.
No Cheats.
No Lame people.
No real excitement/progress in technology sound.
no butchered games made for modern low skillers.

even mdoern games have lost something, in the 90's you could see you were on the cusp of so many advances, CD ROM/INTERNET/3D.

So many cool consoles and industry players. Now its just commerical and stale.

i even miss the old computer stores where thery had a couple of computers and youd pay cheap change to play with your friends, be it Total Annihilation , might of myth and magic, whatever it was,..always so much fun :)

This is what I miss most now, with fast Internet, every pc game being online, playstation network and xbox live people just don't get together playing games anymore. And voice comms can be fun but not the same, people just play from home.

Like you say the 90s for arcades when new games came out often and were also much better techincally than you could get at home, something which just doesn't ever happen now. As you say games like ridge racer, daytona, street fighter and tekken games as they came out. Also playing console games round a mates house or at school. The amount of hours we spent playing for instance goldeneye and mario kart 4 player on the n64, NBA jam te and super street fighter 2 when my mate got on import and we'd go round every school dinner and after school to play them. Can't rmemeber what else we played hmm linked psx doom and split screen quake 2 at school. Even LANs seem to be on the decline.

I do look back on all these times with fond memories. I like playing online with the same people but it's just not the same as having 4-6 people round a big tv playing 4 player or new games coming out in the arcades.
