and about proving grounds, if he wants it to be like in q3 it'd high time to add some maps that were made in the beta stages of the game. They have the rights anyway.

As much awards as they want, no one is against it and this one would be fine, but there are more relevant and skill based in-game medals than this one I think.

Accuracy for an air rox, Perfect for 2 air rox in a row, or a new medal when you kill 5 enemies with consecutives rails hits in less than 10 seconds, for example.

3 new premium medals for subscribers, 3 'old' premium maps free, and everyone's happy.

I really liked the award you got in Q4 for the combo-kill (rocket then rail), and also when you cause someones death (like making them crater or fall into pit of death), you get the frag instead of them losing it. Doesn't really matter so much in duel/tdm etc, but in FFA it makes a lot of sense :>

new players don't know the difference. Anything you add to quake live right now is something they'll cheer about.

Truth is, oceansofapathy is right, these awards are stupid and a waste of developer (sponge) time/money. It would be better spent working on things that people have actually been asking for, but this is something we've been saying for 2+ years now and id continues to march at the beat of their own drum. Next update will probably see the return of another 10 useless tournament cvars, 3 maps noone plays, and some bugfixes for things that should have never been broken in the first place.

Well, if QL ends up completely and hopelessly dead, FragLove is by far the best choice out there. In fact FL is already heaps better than QL as far as map selection and settings is concerned. (all CPMA features for convenience and tweaking)

Seriously, people know about it. People say FL sucks because no one plays it... that is not their fault - sure they could advertise a bit more but it is not that obscure, especially from the promotion at ..::LvL, etc. If many people take the initiative to actually play there, then it will actually be played.

I might talk to them about adding tournaments though - not super-serious competitive ones but something to draw the community there. And make it a major on ESR so it gets full coverage and more people going. These people have done more for the community in a year (including private testing) than id software has done in three years. They are also adding new content (Monsoon and Frag Pub, the latter of which was featured in the recent Kenya cup, were added) much more frequently than QL and they seem to be free of the elitism and superiority that plagues the current QL scene.

I`m not saying QL is bad. It`s still a respectable effort and it`s still better than many modern FPS titles in this day and age. But it is still miles behind what Q3 was in it`s heyday, and it`s far from achieving it`s true potential. And I was never around at that time, but I heard and I know.

If you mean prizemoney as in tournament awards - there`s currently no tournaments being held. However, stahlaal, drixy and I have been discussing the possibilities of one. Drixy also suggested pickup services for TDM, CTF, etc.

Over a month, yet not a single Premium game has been put together where I could participate. Why have Pro when invite is never used? Why have Premium when there's never a game on? The deal is the same for Premium. No player base, just a lot of maps to play with none.

A. In Aust, you check the Premium servers, no one is playing. If say 90% of players do not pay for a Premium account, why would I want to pay for a Premium account with no players to play against or to the least, a very small amount? Sure I can invite one or two players from my friends list, that's if they're actually online, but that's not going to cut it.

I don't think many people get much value out of extra premium maps because of how difficult it is to get a premium match going with a decent player load in most regions. I don't even bother making pro servers any more since it takes a few minutes to create and then I'm stuck with little more than a premium public server.

At the end of the day its going nowhere only backwards. FreezeTag has had its chance but the Important Suggestions & 99% of the Community was Ignored ! The whole QL FT thing was a BiG Insult and just showed alot of people what QL and [id] is all about. Very Unhappy with the very slow progress here. So many people have been here and had a look and was very dissapointed and wont be returning. It missed its chance and will never get where we all hoped and wanted it tobe. I bought a premium subscription over Christmas, because I had some free time and I wanted to try the 'new' maps. Well, until Monday, I never had an opportunity to play any of those maps because no one is in those games. It's a ghost town. And as most of you know, all the 'skilled' players are in the lower tiered maps stomping noobs and ruining the game experience for everyone else. No one plays the premium maps.

I certainly won't renew my subscription.

I subbed to premium which I can honstly say is not worth it because there isnt enough Premium/pro subscribers to play with so they all flock to standard servers where the players are I have waited around in premium serversfor upwards of 15 mins tryign to get a decent CTF game going but people get bored and leave. The only time premium servers are busy is when its free like what happened yesterday. I cancelled my auto renew subscription option long ago.

Another problem lies within premium package, a lot of my friends have it and they all say same thing: I callvote premium duel map but always end up playing the free one. Also, they say 90% of time premium servers are empty and playing freezetag is like lottery, impossible to find players sometimes. Why?

I don't remember a time without 3+ premium CA servers in my browser. I've selected USA in Game Location just now (it's like 4 AM there) and I see pub premium TDM (!), pub premium small CA, priv premium small CA and priv premium duel. I've heard CTF games on premium maps are pretty common.

I play mostly CA. Very rarely is there not a game going on, premium or standard. If nothing is going on, like I said rarely, I will start a server, and inside of 2 minutes of running around a map, people start popping in.

Like if there was a todo list... Ok maybe the syncerror's todo list involves something related to shishkebab but i'm pretty sure the guy is not aware that quakelive is still running.
I'm not a developer but i feel like this list could be achieved by the end of the month.
I know it's easy to say but after 2 years playing here are the relevant updates i have noticed :
- about 5 good already existing q3 maps added.
- double jump.
- bigger hitbox (still don't know if it's good or not).
- betters scoreboards (not sure ql team made that).
- 6 months old fragmovies when the game is down.
- haaaa... I pay to play ? (not funny thing : this is the only point they made alone).

I love the game and i would love to know what id really want to do with it. The lack of transparency is seriously annoying.

Sponge can't do all of that. Syncerorr is just a mapper. There are no other developers. ordus doens't count.

he is so long as he spends the majority of his time working on maps instead of 1) communicating with the community, 2) ordering sponge to work on priorities, 3) taking action to follow through on the promises he made last year when the subscription model was announced.

It doesn't matter what little thing he does here and there, the perception and overall conclusion that anyone can draw from the last update is, that he would rather create a map for the small percentage of premium accountholders than to fix the game in a sense that it attracts and retains new players. His priorities are not in check no matter how you spin it.

Yes if you are looking for premium FFA and CA they are empty. For Duel there is usually at least 1-2 active servers which is what I'm paying for derp derp.

Let`s not forget Cold War. Yeah it`s pretty complicated but that`s what I like about it, the vertical element really challenges you and you can attack and be attacked from anywhere. Quite intense.

Window Pain is also nice, we need more maps with gimmicks like this one.

I don`t play CA that much though, I personally enjoy these maps more in InstaFreeze. I think they work best as FFA maps though.

Considering you didn't even know who half the people who played in that community were prior to starting your pickup channel 3 weeks ago, whereas i've played more hours than any other u.s player in ctf over a span of almost 3 years now. Anyone who use to download mods for half-life(original) should, if you have got a few broskis on or are lanning, download a mod called "run away train". It has a cement launcher and its pretty sick. The mod is a lot of fun so check it out. Basically the cement blocks were launched at a faster speed than ql gl, could ricochet off walls, and would insta gib you if you were hit. Point of the mod was basically KOTH where the hill was a train you drove around the map. Hilarity ensues(usually best served with intoxicated sleep deprived friends on lan). Also download either cs_ or de_boatseason for cs 1.6. If you have never been fragged by a yacht that just ran over your jet ski, you truly haven't experienced the essence of vehicle based combat.

It just goes to show, the dev (sponge) is too busy playing video games to work on quake live. It's quite clear now, that this game was never taken seriously by anyone involved in it.

also how do you think i managed to get 5 stickies on the old ql forum? setup a clansite, setup a gallery of 1000's of quake live map images, get myself involved in numerous administrative positions, put together a clan of 100 people, organized tournaments, research and put together more information for quake live in one place than exists anywhere, to date... +1. Well, whatever you decide to do, good luck with it. Just don't get it twisted, i once loved this game and did everything i could to make it a success and syncerror knows that, but as i've tried to explain, incubus single handedly ruined my experience (which others than amplifed later, av8r, etc), and he should be condemned for killing the u.s ctf playerbase. So until that day comes i'm going to stick around. When syncerror finally realizes that ted is the problem, then i'll release all my work back into the game. Up to adam to make the right choice. For all i care it can sit in my hard drive for all eternity.

d3 should be a lot of fun, i might switch over to it as well. I'm a modder myself infact, am currently working on some sc2 maps and that lack of ability, in quake live, has really hurt this game. That's probably the biggest draw for q3 down the road. Any game that doesn't allolw people to map, etc is destined for failure. Still hard to believe ql failed so hard in that regard.

D3 engine modding will be restricted to small numbers IMO - the existing tc mods may go standalone, Sikkpin will do some nice renderer bits I expect, and I guess sim may do something with emz. If he does, I may throw a few patches his way.

Don't expect many who don't already do stuff with idtech 4 to move to it.

Hard working consists of coding a system like the guys at qlranks have done. Paying some people to use their maps is not hard work, its' called gifting x amount on paypal which is done in as little as 4 clicks (sign in, send money button, fill in fields, confirm) and takes 1 min of their time at most (on a shitty connection).

Gaining where? I see a small increase in activity, followed by additional loss. This has happened dozens of times over the years, but it has never been anything more than a bump in the road.

tbh. you should look for another game, e.g. StarCraft 2 or League of Legends ... or dedicate your cause to one of the previous quakes, that have everything you need bethanks of the work of the community ...
ql is a fail project, very hard to revitalize it, and I don't think that people currently working on QL are really qualified ...

I agree with you that quake live is a failed project, i'm just trying to get guys like lorfa, malk and diplodok to realize it so they dont' lie to new users trying to convince them to buy a subscription for any number of reasons. Yet these 3 fools, 2 of which are still moderators still go around telling people premium is heavily played on, etc and that cheaters hardly exist in ql.
