For the first time in a long time South Africa will have an online Quake Live Duel tournament. The tournament will be hosted by XTC Gaming, one of South Africa's largest E-Sports clan's.

Players like the legendary Ph4ntom and Shase will be competing so it is sure to be a fantastic display of South African Quake talent. Unfortunately Szarko, South Africa's number 1 according to www.qlranks.com, is not playing for unknown reasons.

I am competing in this! Due to me not having played duel in a year my ELO was 7007054 so I'm in div B :D Still most of the guys in Div A would beat me anyway.

I think people to bet on winning would be the usual Shase/Ph4ntom/Szarko, but there are still some strong players in there, should make for some good games.

We could do with some more people, but there is always a CA game going at any time of the day and usually 1 or 2 duel games being played. There are 3 or 4 kinda active clans that play games against each other like once a week.

Speaking of "watching" -- I don't think there are any streams organized yet... but AFAIK the tourney takes place over a few days not just 1 day? Any streamer who wouldn't mind streaming some of the the games? Maybe from like QF's / Semis? Don't even need commentary, but It will be some nice games to watch... I for one am always on the lookout for duel streams @ liveql.com, even if its midlevel players... Sucks seeing that list all RED instead of GREEN, so yeah =)

Ok map selection:

Lowest ranked player, is Player 1. Highest ranked player is Player 2
Player 1 starts by removing a map from the pool.
Player 2 then removes one from the remaining maps.
Player 1 then picks one of the remaining maps.
Player 2 then picks one of the remaining maps.
In the event of a tie, the last map will be used as a tiebreaker.
A map may not be picked or removed twice.

Good initiative from the South-African community,but only south maybe middle africans can play on it,for the North african players (like me) since the ping is 150 or 200+.

i wonted to start a QL carrier with a tournament,but looks like i have to wait a long time till they make a tourney in North-Africa or maybe ID make some servers there.

Still nice for the South-African players,i hope that they make a weekly or a monthly cup to keep the community alive there.

i cant orginise tournaments,im buzy playing and admining the Quake 2 scene.

i play mostly in the FR servers where i ping like 70-80,and in the nights the ping go up to reach 100 or more

most euro players ask us for spanish servers but most North-African players ping better in Frence or DE (ping in spain is mostly +100),we can ping better in Italy,but there is no servers there yet.

Good to see North Africans dueling too =) Don't you guys ping like 40 to Europe?? Why don't you play in EURO tourneys

SA is literally so far away from everything. 150+ ping to UK/EU, 250 ping to US, 400 ping to AU. No point playing anywhere besides South Africa. Only countries we get good ping to are like Namibia, Botswana, Zimbabwe, etc... but that doesn't help us because they don't seem to have any duelers anyway ^_^

im not the only player from North-Africa but i think im one of the few who is competing in tournaments,i play in euro tournaments (in Q2 but rarly in QL cause of the time/school)

the ping in europe for us is 70+ (i wish i had 40) and sometimes,the ping goes for more than 100.

There are some new Cables landing in the next 3 years, such as WACS, ACE, Main One, & SAex, which will probably also stimulate routing improvements which will improve pings between African countries. let's wait and hope xD

Nopes, Joburg in Fourways. Really enjoyed the time there as it was over 2010 with the world cup etc.

It's a very nice country, too bad the history with racism etc still has such a big impact on the way of living and thinking etc. However, it was definitely the most interesting year(s) of my life yet and i met some wonderful people. :D
