It will, forget about it, there's no way you can lure thousands (Hundreds?) of people that might want to hop in and play QL to install Q3 and all its mods, download maps etc.

it's surviving solely on 20 die-hard fans, which for me is far worse than what we have in QL.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying QL is doing great - it's doing far from great, but I still see more newcomers willing to try a browser plugin and hop into the game rather than installing IRC and getting bashed by Veterans that have been playing for ages.

Actually he's telling the truth. Even though we have alternatives to QL that are proving extremely promising (FragLove, etc.) they don't seem to attract people, most likely because some might think Q3 is "antiquated" or whatever. Many people do not like QL but they play it because very few others actually play Q3, so that's how they get their fix.

he was made an example of because of the blatancy of his actions. there are many players like him, who will remain unbanned.

everyone can agree that *zeroql* should not have been perma banned for such a minor incident... but like i said, id decided they wanted to make an example out of him.

It was only a few people who thought that he shouldn't have been banned permanently. The vast majority understand that cheating should ALWAYS result in a permanent ban, no matter who you are, or how insignificant it might have been.

I don't think someone should get banned forever. Two years are enough imo but I guess I'm pretty much alone with that opinion.

It's so easy to circumvent bans that it doesn't matter. If a banned cheater wants to continue playing, using cheats or not, he will continue to do so at least in public servers.
OFC I want them to stay banned forever, which is theoretically the way the system has always worked, but that won't happen.

Cheating always results in a permanent account ban because it completely ruins the game for everyone, and it helps to keep record of them.
Also there's not such a thing as a minor incident, and in reality no one tries that only once nor without sharing it with his friends. The phrase "once a cheater always a cheater" applies to most people.

What matters though is to don't allow cheaters to participate in tournaments, even if id doesn't ban them for having a pro account or other reason.
About the duration, in general terms it should be forever. There can be some exceptions in which it can last for a couple of years and only in very special cases (on going contributions to the community and others).
This has to do with the tournament organizers criteria, but if they don't do so the whole tournament will be plaged with controversies every time the cheater plays.

ZeRoQL got so much attention because he was a famous pro player, with massive amounts of evidence by CSI:QL supporting the cheating claim.
But iD turns a blind eye to some random hackers in NA pubs, because it won't hurt id's reputation if they don't ban them.

If a well-known congressman is found guilt of corruption, he will probably be punished, but if several mayors of small towns in Idaho are found guilty of corruption, nobody would care.

Cheaters should be banned for life ,no matter who it is.

I have reported cheaters and sent demos in the past and they all got banned ,but come to think of it I don't think any were pro account holders lol.

You would think that because it is a 12 month payment in advance they would just ban the pro account cheaters.I mean its not like the sub retention rate is high anyway,all they do by not banning pro account cheaters is alienate the possible re subs.

i thought it was common knowledge by now that if you decide to use hacks, as a paying customer, they wont do shit to your account. honestly, i've yet to see a hacker with premium/pro have his account permbanned.

as long as ur giving them your money, they may tempban you for whatever reason, but never a permban / account closure, heh.

Sure, it probably wouldn't be as bad, but I'm sure it would still be quite bad with PB. What does it say about the game when more people would prefer to cheat than to play legit? Even if you had a good cheat prevention system in place right now, how many of the people who cheat would even stick around to play the game legit?

There are only few that will pay for hack subscription. With punkbuster you will have to do just that. Right now almost all hackers are using free stuff. Punkbuster will stop them from hacking, so I don't see your point. Before id shut down PB I didn't saw hacking person in duel(except yuka) for two years period! Now? Now I see hacker every second time I log in to quakelive. That is my view/experience how the things didn't change.

I doubt that, never saw 70%lg/90%rail players in duel before the punkbuster removal.

Aimbot, wallhack, radar, and autoshoot, were all in free hacks, that PB did not pick up. People were discussing them in the first few months that QL went live, and there were youtube videos.

A portion of any community is going to cheat, but it seems that the cheaters are what is left after most everyone else has quit. The problem is likely a combination of preference to play with cheats, and a mentality of "everyone else cheats".

At the beginning, maybe. Don't forget that PB relay on signatures, that means that at some point it was updated so the cheats that worked at ql start, didn't work anymore. Also, I am talking about Europe, don't know how is the whole cheat thing in US.

thats because they never gave PB a chance, and basically just left us on our own with no anti-cheat at all. it was not like this at all in Q3. PB was updated on the regular in Q3 up until QL hit the scene.

Those who says punkbuster didn't do anything are clueless. Punkbuster wasn't good vs custom hacks, but vs the free stuff it's 100% effective. Like 99% of the cheaters nowdays@ql are using free hacks. Yuka was example for good custom hack+without abusing, but now there are a lot of 70lg/90rail noobs and - what concerns me more - good players that started to use WH.

No it's not. Just because a hack is for free doesn't necessarily mean that it's easy detectable ...

its not about the hack itself and how well its coded, but rather the fact that its existance is common knowledge to the game developer or anticheat developer. free hacks can easily be made useless if theyre known to the public. honestly there is not even a need for a dedicated anticheat. all iD needs to do is start regularly updating their game. a few regular changes in their code per week or atleast per month would force the hackers to have to consistently update their code, which i doubt they would waste their time doing for free only for it to stop working the next update.

so in the end, it all goes back to how iD manages the game. if there were more regular updates as promised which addressed these free hack releases, then this wouldnt even be an issue.

elitexkid = pro account. He blatantly toggles with rail on every server and almost ALWAYS rails 80% (out of MANY shots) with 90 ping. Tons of people have complained to id about him, but they won't do anything. I guess they are that desperate for $50. But it shouldn't even matter since they already have his money

Yeah, I think I sent a demo of him in. It's been 18 days since he's been on and around the same for Gizeen who I think might be the same guy. Not sure if the ban notice sometimes doesn't get put on accounts (I've heard that before) or what.

It does seem like pro (and maybe prem) accounts are immune from being banned for cheating. On the bright side, I'm sure we'll get some shitty ra3 map within the next 6 months. :|

I don't understand why you can't just beat these people. He uses rail 54% of the time and his lg is only 18%. Just rape him and he'll stop playing the game. Imagine how shit he will feel when he's still losing with cheats?

Unless people are using robotic lg, these cheats are negligible and don't ruin my subjective experience of when I am playing.

the truth is that either id is so incompetent they can't tell a cheater apart from a good player, or that paid accounts aren't being permabanned in the volumes that they should be.

unfortunately, in either case it means this game is going down the pooper at an unprecedented rate.

I decided when I posted it, that it wont be your typical accuse the nerd (and try to prove anything, it ain't that important for me) and than have landslide of trolls festing in the thread :) The thing that he gets away with it like that, rises questions towards id, thats more important than spending time with individual cases. I'm sure hes not the only one like that. Anyways I call a name here, and then they ban him, ok, what about the rest who is doing it? Theres a bigger problem here, that needs to be addressed.

EDIT: And I forgot to mention, if they just don't ban him with such actions, I can still post a thread after a month, saying: Look this is the guy (with a ql nick at that time + demos), and he is still not banned after all this time. Which further shows that you might slip by just like that, if you have a pro/prem.

in the end that's why cheater reports should be done in this site, hopefully on a single thread. If id decides not to ban someone because of being a paying customer, his reputation will still be hurt enough so he can't participate in tournaments.

For example, r4yn0r has a pro account. Everyone on this site agreed that he cheated and not a single (non argentinian) person defends him, because it's just a blatant wallhack case.
I don't think he'll get banned, but he'll still be in the cheaters list and his qlranks elo will remain being -500 for that.
On the other hand, who knows how southamerican tournaments will handle that. Most probably he will still be accepted in tournaments and only a handful of people will know he's a cheater.

tl;dr: this game is doomed, lets play LoL (0 cheaters in more than 2 years).
