I rarely lost by very high scores and when I did I didn't feel like those games were particularily useful to me. Then again playing against better players is generally desirable.

If I were to routinely lose to top players with scores like 35-2, then sure, it would probably not be too beneficial. Mainly because your e-penis would shrink and vanish completely. I haven't played high skilled players in many years so I had no idea what to expect. Give me a few weeks and scores will be very different. They will be right now if I focus on playing well which I didn't really do against fazz. It was pure entertainment and I had a good time. Though I learned stuff from it.

i checked your profile to see more games and that's my analysis of it, you should improve your basics before trying to do really complex stuff ( stuff that you would need to do vs guys like fazz to keep the game withing a 10 score margin )

2 years ago i was in the same situation you were, i started quake and just wanted to get better, i got good really fast by having a decent practice method, not by playing top players

But isn't it a very bad idea to just follow advice and don't try stuff for yourself? I can lose 100 games in a row without losing my cool. I just have a very practical view om things and a game is nothing that will upset me too much. Unless ofc someone cheats or behaves badly, but that's not particular to Quake or gaming. I maintain that you are not direct, you act like an asshole. But I know that it's online culture. It's not so much about practice method but more about attitudes. Attitude. Motivation. Presence. Resolve. Those are key, not who you play.

It relaxes me and makes me feel good. Often I play with loud music so I can't use sounds as a source of information, as was the case with the fazz game. Also, when I was morbidly depressed for six months, I did something of the following at all times: Laid in bed, smoked ciggarettes, played LoL, played QL ffa. Do you think I progressed a lot? No.

I have played Quake since '99 but I have always sucked pretty badly. But I have changed so much as a person, grown in hardships, that I am now 95% sure that I can become top level in a relatively short period of time and that I can beat fazz in, if not next week then in a few months. Not claiming that I will be better, just capable enough to beat him.

On a serious note, I think k1llsen plays a lot of lesser skilled opponents, strenx might take some time to play with you as well. Cooller is barely ever playing, and there's tons of highly skilled swedes that you can challenge and talk to. No need for them to be a professional player.

The 'problem' with your post is that you act like you are a hard opponent to beat, even for pro players "I challenge all top tier players to try and beat me", instead you should have said something like: "I want to improve my game and would be thankful if any pro would play me"

Exactly! However, grinding against top players is not by default a constructive activity. It's all very individual and dishing out stock answers is not beneficial. Not saying that you did that just now, just in general. It's commonplace on here.

Just played spazb0rg. Very good swedish player. Scores were not very even but games were not that uneven tbh. It's just that he had super item control where I did not. T4 was pure ownage spazb0rg style!

I just watched your demo you posted earlier and I must say I agree with the people saying to first learn to walk before you learn to run. You got angry at them because you feel like you can walk. But do note that walking in this sense is not a binary state.

Practicing against top players like strenx would be useless as you cannot simply grasp what they do to beat you and even worse what you do exactly wrong. You can't make the logical connections yet to what mistake of you gets punished because you'll simply get owned at every single aspect of the game. The only conclusion you can draw from getting completely owned is that your enemy runs faster, times better, aims better and has a better meta-game. But what all of that exactly implies you simply cannot know. The reason why playing opponents nearer to you is better is that you can pinpoint your mistakes and work on them.

Viewing that demo showed me you made loads of movement errors, timing errors, bad decision making, an unreasonable sense if where the enemy could possibly be and a bad aim. That rocket jump escape you deemed as a complex move seemed unintentional as you were trying to hit the enemy but occidentally hit the wall. And by no means is that what is meant by advanced gameplay. Complexity comes in the form of great movement/timing/aiming/meta-game thinking and not just the execution of a single move. For a good player making rocket jumps against any surface at any time is and should be a second nature.

Welcome to ESR btw, although your account says you are registered since 2002 you seem not to know how this community works. If you act cocky, you'll simply get mowed down. Don't pretend as if you are right and everyone else is wrong. If you don't want the criticism, which comes in harsh forms at ESR, you might rather want to refrain from posting.
