well you put a sheet of paper with a figure that you can automatically track with your software and put in a 3d model. not even applying shadows or something to the ground. sry but thats not really impressive

That's really nice, only thing that spoiled it slightly was the lack of shadow on the video footage floor and it could have done with some more geometry on the rocket launcher to give it some real depth other than a black texture, but can't fault it beyond that :)

This could be perfectly done with idtech5, and it's definitely what i would do if it would be up to me. The whole game could look like this and you couldn't tell.
The most awesome thing about idtech5 (for me) is that whatever is possible with the latest CGI technology (while very nicely done, this is from 2000 btw) it can be reproduced inside the game pixel by pixel.
I was hoping very badly for something like this after Rage tbh. Pity that nobody around J. Carmack (not a single technical director or a senior artist) understands this at id, not even to release a simple tech demo about it to get the things moving:(

I'd definitely love to see a tech-5 Quake game based off Q3, mainly because there is a huge lack of fast-paced multiplayer FPS that keeps up with today's technology.

Unfortunately, knowing id nowadays they will never accomplish something like this. What would need to be done is a community-operated project using UDK or some other popular high-grade engine, to revive the game outside of id's hands.

Gameplay will always be more important than visuals, but at the same time it is important to consider aesthetics for a few reasons. For one, visuals are known to be a selling point in attracting customers before they even buy the game, so it might bring in more people to the game especially in this day in age. It also shows a company is willing to keep up with progress and keep up with the latest technology, working with more complex environments to achieve greater possibilities, allowing the developers to express themselves in ever-increasing ways, and perhaps most importantly, emphasizing natural human progress and movement.

Gameplay can remain unchanged no matter how far technology progresses. If Quake came out last year with UDK technology but the exact same gameplay, people would still love it just as much as they do today, and can always change GFX settings to meet their needs - just like any other engine.

I don't care about the graphics at all, but the mainstream does. Top best graphics always find it's ways to the news and always sells itself.

Could you point me please where I said that I want a better netcode in QL? Iirc I stated many times that I think QL and CPMA has the best possible netcode there is. (it's true I also said that it has bugs atm, and I also said that perhaps no netcode would be better with 20ish pings).

And about Q5, I think I never said anywhere that i want Q5. The only thing I remember saying is that if they make one, I would buy it

Well, there was a CPMA server in Chicago and in Russia where I used to play sometimes, and those were working well with 120-150ish pings:)
