I don't remember his cfg... but I asked him once. He said he played without strafing keys first. Then later one of his mates told him you could strafe. Then he just added the left and right strafe key next to his existing binds.
Nah. He was in a clan that played Death Row (even took a map off of them) in one of those early tdm tourneys, though. He also has a lan trophy under his belt, and did decently at Qcon.

I played my first Q3 1v1 online against [EYE]FaaN, this was back in 2000. I'd been playing Quakeworld since '98. I am old school in this sense, big time. I never gained any reputation whatsoever because I was a LAN player/recreational online player that always played at a low level.
I started following the 'scene' in 2009. Back in the days (2003-5) I knew only about uNkind and his win at wcg, seen a single polos' interview on large national TV show. Didn't even know about Cooller :D
I started just fucking around on LAN in 2001 at the local inet cafe, but one fine afternoon the boss showed me 2 fragmovies, the first fragmovies I ever saw. They were Clipquake, or whatever it's real name is, and a movie by S3NS3_0F_D34TH (can't find it now and when I did find it years ago the audio was removed by jewtube ):
From that instant I fell in love with the game after seeing how it was played at the highest level. The LAN boss then proceeded to teach me how to strafejump, and the group of Quakers that I used to play with (Gore Quake Clan) eventually went on to be the ones who taught p0ni how to play a couple of years later. Unfortunately I didn't pick up the same skillz :D Anyhoo, I've been fascinated and perpetually penis-erected by Q3 and all things Q3 related ever since I saw the opening scenes of Clipquake.

:) I can only imagine how impressed you were to see that movie in 2001. I believe my first ever Quake fragmovie which I saw was 'fragged by uNkind'. Man, his railing was sick :) After that I spent few hours tweaking rail settings in console and finally got pretty much like his fuzzy dark blue rail. Boy I was proud of myself :D
I'll admit I've already seen the answer, but before melechesh posted it I assumed it was ph0enix/p0ni. I even googled his pictures, but never got any fitting result. So I say - this is p0ni, go me!
oh yeah, I vaguely remember her presenting one of the early CPL tournaments (Holland?). I do remember her rack, but not her name.
the guy, seemingly suffering from chemotherapy, is PELE
Aim and movement is obv not on par with todays standards but look closely on fats weapon selection. He never once overuses the rail even by drawing it in a bad situation. Something that is more than commonplace these days. I think you can learn a lot from observing this guy. And for that, you don't even need his official baseball cap and/or sneaks for that matter.
i really started playing when i was at cpl holland as a spectator, so around EC3 i was still kinda new in quake but i did play...
i never had a real nickname, but i played in a belgium clan for some time STORM my nick was vinkie, vinkieee, vinkZ..
i played on some LANs where i could play 2 maps with c58.nl (TDM) and i played 1 lan with 32nd (CTF) but nobody really knew me because i switched nicknames alot :P
only played quake really active for 3 years then i joined the navy now i only play in the weekends...
so a little bio from me, sorry its more then u asked for ;)
ow and my quakelive acount is RoyV stupid nick but in the beta i thought i could change my nickname..
Gj, it is the infamous viking Rah Nd. Loch from the northliest parts of all Sweden, known as Jotunheim!
He is remembered for his Quake logo tattoo on his upper arm, lying through his teeth about some accident he supposedly were in (posted here on esr) but first and foremost for his godlike rocket aim making him almost impossible to beat on t2 when he were on his a-game.
yea, uhm... looks can be deceiving :p i remember lenghty 'discussions' during ec games, but you could say that about most people back then. ctf was serious business for a while ;)
I really don't know, it's up for someone else to guess! It must be a player who made fame in another game or something, otherwise it doesn't make sens that he has his own website.
