Only in Quake do people insist on regressing backwards to outdated, outmoded technology. Meanwhile, the rest of the PC gaming community pushes the boundaries foward but in QL everyone wants to run 10+ year old operating systems.

There are many things on the planet what is there for a very long time because they can perform better than their successors in certain situations.
It's not that those people are dumb, masochist or hate change... it's just about efficiency, criteria and different values.

Can you not change the aspect ratio on your monitor?

Mine has a greyed out menu option that only works when in fullscreen games.

iirc depending on the monitor that can add quite some input lag.

Just a visual bug. Switch to 1280x1024, select the GPU scaling and revert back to your native res - sorted.

However nvidia's GPU scaling is broken with drivers post 260.xx and adds a massive amount of input lag.

Display built-in scaler is not ideal either so if you're really anal about input lag you better play in windowed or native res.
OR a custom 1400x1050 res and nvidia drivers set to no scaling. That way you get 4/3 and no lag.

It's usually happening because your NV GPU decides that you have a TV instead of a monitor. Creating a custom resolution matching your native one usually helps to get rid off this problem.
