I agree. As a 13+ years fan of Quake, I am a 1+ year old fan of SC2 as well. SC2 is thoroughly entertaining, and the tip of the spear right now as far as esports goes, but to say that it takes viewers away from Quake is imho inaccurate. Its like saying NBA takes viewers away from NHL.

On the contrary, it brings more new spectators to the world of video games.

I say that as someone who doesn't enjoy watching / playing SC2 nearly as much as quake.

Yeah, I used to play it a bit as well, but let's be honest. It gets you bored pretty fast, hence the scene is so small. Everyone is talking about how "hardcore" and what a "high skill cap" this game has, but the entertainment value of it remains at 0 for most people who try it.

For me, the show would've been better off without it, but congrats to you blc-lurkers out there.

well the only reason I haven't touched it in a while is because I hate and I mean "HATE" windows.

It is small game made by almost entirely students who believed that current moba games did not match the aspects of esport. They mixed some very common esport elements and went all in on a friendly business model. To me they have done a great work with the best grade ever, it is just sad it did not touch the outer world so much :/ Thous it still has potential imo!

I wouldn't agree, I love Quake. But it would be true for a lot of people.

Not saying this to bash Quake. But I reckon BLC deserves a bit of respect, and the benefit of the doubt. If there is a hardcore scene, good luck to them, I hope they can grow it or at least keep it strong.

The scene is so small because of a bad F2P model and a mediocre publisher.
Everything about the game itself (excluding gameplay which is a matter of opinion) is far far far better than what QL will ever be : ladders, grade system, teams creation, party system, ranked/unranked matchmaking system, actual ingame tournaments (some sponsored) and so on.
Again, the big problem is player retention which is bad because everything in the game is far too overpriced (either ingame currency or real money) and you have to play way too much to unlock some basics features. Also playing with 1 or 2 buddys really change the whole experience of the game, unlike quake where you can just join a ffa, ca or of course a duel and have some legit fun on your own.

I don't think Vo0 and rat ever played in a tournament, but it's my understanding that they traded games toward the end of rat's prime, while Vo0 was just coming into his trademark style. I'd guess the games would be very close if you compared them both in their primes. While today Vo0 would certainly beat him as he's had more meaningful tournament experience and continued to play more frequently (still off and on) over the years.

I'd love to see them play each other, also I'd like to play them both on lan =). What sucks is that there has never been a single cpm lan tournament able to bring practiced top players into the arena.

Playing a bit more passive game =/= boring. And read below, it's just my opinion and I know shit.

pavel/guard/reaper style more interesting than strenx? I highly doubt it. Keep in mind that I'm not talking about skill, I just find strenx's gamestyle very appealing and much more interesting to watch than any of the aforementioned players.

Fazz, stermy and spart1e each have a very distinctive and interesting style, so it's understandable why you included those. But others... Idon'tknowbro :l

Well I just don't enjoy strenx's style, I don't see (or don't want to see) any depth in his game. For me he runs from armour to armour and hits everything, dealing shitloads of dmg. I just see him as a timing&aiming monster (which is enough), nothing more really. I'm not saying that he isn't smart in his game, but he plays just normal, like an average Joe Doe but with crazy aim and great timing.

Guard is like second avek, fast and super agressive, great style imo. Reaper is definitely interesting and pavel reminds me of Jibo.

Strenx is also very good at spawn raping, i never been a fan off his playstyle really. But tbh he also have a very good map awarness and nowadays he is alot more clever in his play then a year or two ago.

He plays offbeat and so his style is most entertaining. ofc there is pure aim too and k1llsen CAN play epic, its just so irregular. id say strenx is a lil boring to watch but thats personal preference, his aiming style is 'slow' and steady, clean if u will, i like it agressive and weird ^^

I think for the non quake viewers there should have been some decent graphics settings to make it look more interesting.

I actually found those games so boring that i turned off halfway through toxicity. Not really a good showmatch it was one sided from the start. Also as said above, dm13 is so boring that no non-quaker will stay interested after that.

-LANs at the studio, hopefully, from September at the earliest, 4-8 players, positioned between the major tournaments. (They need lots of viewers + money to do this.)

This show will probably be a seriously great thing for Quake and we all should be really thankful but the section devoted to quake today lacked content in my opinion. 2GD tried to save the show with his humour but tbh out of all the jokes only very few were actually funny. Of course it was only a pilot show and I'm pretty confident they will get better!

Disagree, I thought it was already pretty great. Obviously the match wasn't as good as it could have been, but they can't help that. At least we know it was legit, and not fixed like some showmatches...
And I found it pretty entertaining, each map was quite interesting in its own way.

So game wise it was nice but kinda random. Show quality wise it was OK as a pilot, but come on, you can do it better. I really have believe in you guys! I would even consider pressing "like" on FB if I had an account.

u cant even see how much blc and quake are alike? from my very brief experience in blc i can only tell you that, the game is based around positioning, aim, dodging, timing and ofc, teamplay.

dota fights plays a lot like blc, but u will rarely win a game solitarily on that. to sum the game up, good decisions and fight execution is key.

they can do 1080p60 easily, but currently are limited by their lowish upload speed

BLC actually impressed me. i used to play wow 3v3 arena, and play ql, i could really appreciate what they were doing and the game is actually pretty fucking good although i have no interest in undertaking it. first time i ever saw it being played.

SC2, always enjoy viewing. TLO played well, and good play is never boring.

DOTA - was fucking crap, i barely ever spec this game, but this was the last straw, i have no intention of ever watching dota streams again, the game is fucking garbage. as long as they keep it at the end of the show, ill be happy.

i can enjoy the QL, then the BLC, then chillax with SC2, and then i can sleep.

over all though, i think a lot of the swearing was just kinda stupid and not needed. im not saying im against it or w/e, but it felt forced, and for that, i thought it was really poor. i mean, you can say fuck? so what.

the whiskey etc, was also well and truly over done. i dont care your drinking, cool. you can drink on stream. if it was subtle it would have been alright, you know - like the "yeah, this isnt water, but i wont mention that" sort of thing, but a bunch of gamers openly drinking whiskey is just like.. ehh? again, feels unnecessary and forced.

clean it up a bit, focus on the gaming. swear when theres something worth swearing about. noone cares your all drinking whiskey. it makes 2GD's image, but it doesnt fit in with the rest of them. and even then, theres really no point to it.

to top it off, dont show intel processors at the start of a show AMD is helping sonsor.

btw, SC2 commentators were great, they both seem to really know what they are talking about and i much prefer their commentating to other SC2 streams ive heard.

very nice for a first pilot (just watched quake), enjoyed it!

it was already a nice enjoyable format and i think you guys can improve further easily.

It was really a good show! Quake almost had 5k viewers, obviously many of them never played the game still there wasnt any whining in the chat, its a good sign. Hoping for more in the future!

Also the only thing could make the QL matches even better adding a little frame to them and hyping it up, something like old school vs new school (z4 vs rapha), east vs west (avek vs tox), aim vs brain (killsen vs cooller), so give a character to every player and make it easier to pick someone and cheer for him for those who dont know the scene. Maybe make 4 man tournies like Sweden special, USA special, Eastern Europe special...

The ql showmatch was mediocre at best, blc didn't interest me in the least, sc2 worked well and dota: utter garbage to watch for me. And you know what? I still enjoyed myself very much. It proves how much of a screen persona 2gd and other guys have. I don't think I'll be watching much of blc and no dota for me at all, but I'm gonna tune in for the quake shows and probably some sc2 action as well. The show yesterday had problems, but it was meant to ba a troubleshooting stream to wipe out any technical problems and check if the show works. And it definitely worked for me. So good luck guys and I'm eagerly waiting for more.

ps: swearing and whisky are kind of 2gd's thing so i don't think the stream should be any cleaner than absolutely necessary. They haven't overdone it, I laughed a lot and raised my glass for the gdstudio success. So that's that.

But I didn't like swearing. If I had a kid, he or she wouldn't be permitted to watch. You can't introduce such a show to your parents, some of your friends, and some of the ladies, either.

Maybe the idea is that swearing creates a relaxing atmosphere for teens, but I think it has more minuses than plusses, as far as expanding the audience is concerned.

Dude, kids of atleast 13 are already swearing that they'll fuck everybody's mom on CoD etc. I liked the vulgar style it was hilarious.

Dude, what kind of world do you live in? There are teens who swear, there are those who don't. And there are many people whom you can't show such a show, out of fear to be seen as an idiot for watching a guy who swears in front of the camera.

This is definitely the most entertaining show I saw since 2006. Lot's of rough edges, too much of alcohol display for my liking but still - this is the marvelous show done with love and pride, with its every minute being enjoyed by me. And dApollo is the fucking boss, whose awesomness is on par with awesomness of the 2GD. :)

I'd like it to be a bit more planned and not that forced towards trying to do something funny on camera, since almost none of them were.

also the same introduction frames, that seem standard in sc2(and were also used, albeit bugged), should be used at the beginning of a quake match.

another little idea, that is easily implemented:
disable followkiller and thelike. and use a bind like this to change povs:

seta cg_crosshaircolor "1"
seta crossred "+attack; set cg_crosshaircolor "1"; bind MOUSE1 vstr crossblue"
seta crossblue +attack; set cg_crosshaircolor "2"; bind MOUSE1 vstr crossred"
bind MOUSE1 "vstr crossblue"

not sure if that works, or if it's even possible in quake live, but that way every pov in a duel would have its own distinguishable crosshaircolor, which would make it easier for the spectators to tell which player they are watching, or if a pov-change happened.

Yeah, something like that would be good. You could do it with an overlay too, but I guess someone would have to be on the ball to change it manually each time.
