What's wrong with it being glossy?

Its mostly preference, but most people prefer matte screens.

Glossy ones look kind of nice, but they reflect everything and make it really difficult to see if you have any kind of light shining directly on it.

I bought it, returned it after a few weeks. Glossy as fuck and I got some weird green color outlining when watching videos.

im close to buying this today - but can find any info about input lag anywhere : (

well, i just posted a comment on another site and figured i would do the same here to warn people....

mine arrived on saturday (£230 shipped to the uk from amazon germany) - looks lovely, very sleek, no dead pixels, little backlight bleed, all in all very pleased initally.

tried out 2d to 3d conversion on a ps3 connected via hdmi, worked ok to be honest - then hooked up via dvi-d to my 6850, tried quakelive and bf3 (only tried 3d briefly in bf3 using built in bf3 steroscopic drivers, worked quite well although it wasnt overly breathtaking).

the montior its self looks great, and is very sharp, nice colour (I have been using a 22" Lacie high end CRT for about 8 years... and a 22 inch samsung flat pannel at work) - but thats where the praise stops..

for quakelive, the monitor just felt awful compaired to a crt... i was expecting a slight difference in feel but this was huge imo (verified running in 120hz etc)

i think its just the input lag, they say its low on these (according to most 750d reviews, 10ms ish) - but for me its a deal breaker, was horrible to play on and i found it instantly frustrating - and its not what you see on screen, i noticed no ghosting/bluring etc, its what you feel, its just not responsive or quick enough for me.

mines back in the box, and ive submitted a return to supplier after only having it 2 days, wish i could say my experience was better as i would have loved to replace my old crt, but it seems this isnt the one for me

oh and in response to comments above, the glossy screen didnt bother me, its not that bright in my room, but if your coming from a crt and want a flatscreen that feels remotely like a crt (at least as far as qlive is concerned, it wasnt as noticeable in bf3) - then this probably isnt for you.

get a samsung 2233rz :p

i was actually trying to get a lg w2363d as they appear to have the lowest of lowest input lag (zero when u use their game mode)... but they are no where to be found, including ebay and amazon etc....

tbh im not that keen on buying tech thats as old as the 2233rz, there must be something better by now ; (

LG doesn't manufacture W2363D anymore, i wanted that one..
they just fully into 3D vision and don't care about the gaming uses of their monitors

crt's are still better and theyre 15 years old, and the 2233rz its one of the best there is along with the viewsonic that came out in the same year.

either you buy crap that looks good or you buy quality, its your choice.

My 700d is in its box waiting for the courier to take it back... i got a nearly new 2363d last night and am in the process of trying it out.

For anyone thats interested my initial (all be it subjective, and fairly brief - 2 days with the samsung, 2 hrs with lg) impressions of Samsung 700d vs LG 2363d are:

the stand on the LG is pretty flimsy, and the build quality is generally no where near as good as the samsung.

the samsung is considerably thinner (it being led i imagine) and much nicer to look at

colours on the samsung seem to be much better, lots more saturation - the lg seems a little washed out and alittle bright, although ive read on a few sites some settings for the monitor thats suuposed to improve it hugely so will try this tonight.

the lg felt quicker in the very brief test i gave it last night, playing qlive 1024x769 gpu scaling, with black bars on sides - i might try upping to native res and playing widescreen but more on that in a few days..

Tried to set the sharpness at 3 instead of 5 ? It looks pretty bad at anything but 3 to me and it has an effect on the colors aswell.

ive not messed with the sharpness, only left it at the default (5??) - i changed the colour/brightness/contrast as per:

Yeah that's what I assumed, changing the sharpness actually makes a huge difference to me. :x

i got a 2nd hand (dude bought it thinking it was a 3d tv, and never actually used it.... result) one off of gumtree for £120, working perfectly and a definite improvement.

your link might help out those looking for one, they are hard to come by now.

This guy runs a similar model, but he uses the 750D instead of the 700D and he modified the monitor's casing to make the bezel as thin as possible

I'll get it Thursday/Friday, will probably create a detailed review, since there is close to nothing decent to be found regarding it.

I bought it since I have a 5 year old monitor, so decided it is time to replace it. I am used to playing Quake Live on 75 hz LCD and maintain good accuracies, so I guess if it is just slightly better with 120 HZ, it will already be better for playing ;)

2233rz have lot of bloor or ghost or what ever THIS S23A700 dont , if u set response time to fastest mod ... man i see no ghosting on this LED ... even my old 75 hz ASUS lcd have less ghosting than 2233rz ...

its glossy :/ so dust n shit all visible on it . Playing Quake is realy nice on it cause this is only 1 game my PC can handle on 125 FPS ...

every other game like TF2 where i have drop fps in fight [60 fps ] it looks worst than on 75 hz LCD ...

1080p or 720p movies looks so chopy now cause 120 hz u see its 23 or 30 fps movie and fast scenes are bad for eyes ...

I think this monitors are realy only for Games ... Watching movies on it is paynfull , i rather go to my LCD TV refreshrate 100 hz and Clear motion rate 200 hz and movie looks super extra smoooth ..

cause TV cpu it make like 200 fps movie .

this LED have problem with Backlighting on lower edge or lower side .

even when LED=LCD like smart ppl always saying .But led always cost more than LCD , and there is reason , white is ultra white , black is better and it dont take 60 watts but only 22 watts i think . etc etc . 3D glasses cost on internet 30 euro .

And playing horror games in 3D mode is very nice .

Alright well I got it as well since Saturday 28th of January.

My first experience was that it looks great. I went from a 22 inch Samsung 2253BW to the S23A700D. So from a 75 monitor to 120 hz in gaming.

It is easy to set up and works well setting everything via the nVidia drivers. There you can set the monitor to 120 hz (took 10 minutes till I figured that out) and for Quake Live it works great.

It feels like playing on a CRT (or well as close as it gets) and I notice no lag or delay playing. Only the feel is a bit different coming from playing on 75 hz for about 4 to 5 years. I used to take out my CRT for serious matches, but at some point I didn't care anymore.

The only downside is the glossy, although you can't just say it is a downside, because overall the colors look way better than a mat screen. You have reflections when the screen displays black if you are in a light environment, but in the evening (when I mainly use it) it looks fantastic and I have no reflections.

I think you can get a lot better quality if you take time to calibrate it correctly as I am currently using it how it came out of the box.

The 3D is nothing to write home about, it can be fun I guess in some games, but it will hurt your eyes after a while. It's a fun extra, but I think your main concern would be the 120 hz, which makes everything really smooth (especially Quake Live). And the desktop usage with 120 hz is a real nice addition as well. Everything (windows, programs, mouse movement) is really smooth and pleases the eye.

I have a 26 inch Iiyama at 75 hz at work and I would have preferred a 120 hz one there as well :(

But I can recommend it for the price it is going for at the moment. I got it for 262 euro and I don't regret it. It is not too big and not too small.

Also I really like the thin edge as border around the screen. It makes it look classy and makes it great to watch at for all day usage.

All in all if you are looking for a gaming monitor, but also for allday usage, it is good value. It is a great replacement if you want a CRT like feel in games.

Edit: Apparently playing at 800x600 (my quake resolution) @ 120 hz causes some delay between mouse movement and reaction on screen.

However when setting the monitor to its native resolution 1920x1080 @ 120 hz seems to not have the same delay. It is almost gone playing that way.

So I guess it is doable if you don't mind playing wide screen fast paced games @ 120 hz. But using lower resolutions (4:3) seems to give a very small delay (almost unnoticeable if you are not used to Quake like games) but it is there.

i also googled that first models 2233rz have same bug . autoscaling when it is set to wide work in samsung menu work same as auto . So i cant turn off ... maybe soon there will be cheaper and better 120 hz lcd , i think i will send it back this LED . 265 Eur is too much

i noticed this playing at 1024 with bars at the sides, but it didnt feel any better when scaled up to 1080p - and that was with it set on fastest response.

Hm weird, for me it did. It was a world of difference even. I thought I was going crazy and I couldn't do any reflex shots. I had to really point at something and know that the enemy model would go into my crosshair if I wanted to hit.

Then I was thinking and asked l1nkin about it. I then tried it, set the monitor to fastest @ response time, set the resolution to 1600x900 (also works with 1920x1080) and it was pretty much like a CRT. I didn't have any delays in mouse feeling and I was hitting where I moved. Went from 30 LG / 50 RG with the delay feel to 45 LG and 60+ RG.

It felt really responsive again so I definitely notice a difference. I just have to get used to playing wide screen, because the sensitivity will be different to a 4:3 format. But I guess it is time to move on to this kind of resolutions, they are also more pleasing to my eyes.

how is the color reproduction from angles? same artifacts as every TN panel? (the change of brightness from top to botton)

Ehm I think there is nothing to worry about if you watch at it the normal way. It is quite an amazing change from a mat LCD that is 5 years old to this monitor.

The colors look great and more alive for sure. I watched some movie clips on it and I like it more than my 40 inch TV in the living room. That's a LED mat screen.

I always disliked the idea of glossy screen and I can understand that the reflection can be annoying, but with normal use and the screen displaying your desktop, programs, movies or playing games it just looks great.

You shouldn't watch at the monitor at any weird angles, it is ok from the side, but due to the glossy screen, you will notice reflections when you view from the side. When sitting straight in front of it, it is gone again though, but that's the way you will use it most of the time anyway :)

Yeah its only for a few hours (laptop battery dies after about 90 mins and I'm not buying a new laptop just for this), its not practical to have engine running at time of use, guess I have to see how long I can push my luck with car.

will depend on the car, my Ford for example runs the 12v lighter socket all the time so it would be fine charging the laptop even while out the car.

i have worked with others (i used to install install car audio for friends etc) that disables the 12v socket while ignition is off....

if it doesnt work and you can be arsed, its not a huge chore to replace the 12v switched live connection and reconnect to a 12v permanent live, just means you have to be bothered to get behind the dash (reconnect the single 12v live cable to a different source), which is only a mission when it comes to getting it all back together.

Got mine. So far it's pretty good. Didn't realize the PS3 and certain PC games support native 3D.

Impressions as a gamer:

-Colors are okay, but not amazing. Good for TN.
-Monitor supports 125hz (8.00ms) without a hiccup via custom driver
-Hardware scaling is only possible via custom driver. (Samsung was lazy? EDID for 120/100/60hz @ 1080p only?)
-I have VERY minor backlight bleeding on most of my panel, but there's a pretty annoying spot on the top left corner.
-3D support is a cool feature. Supports PS3 3D and a couple PC games (Deus EX and Dirt 3) natively.
-Input lag with 3D enabled @120hz is extremely noticeable with a mouse.
-Input lag on 2D may be a con for the hardcore CRT user (around 11ms according to multiple reviews). Since the screen is refreshing at or almost 2x faster than a standard LCD, I think a value around 4.0ms (cg ~250fps) is required for the end user not to perceive anything. It feels slightly floaty in specific games I've been playing for years. (Quake/CS) The effect is of course lessened as I scale to lower hz settings.
-Ghosting: pretty good/minor, but still existent with high speed motion in video games. (Quake for me)
-For some reason my desktop driver reverted back to 60hz after a long sleep. (Might just be my computer/AMD driver, we'll see)
-I got v1 glasses. Would have preferred the newer version for 3D in the daylight. (since they block light on sides)
-No dead pixels at all.

Cant think of anything else, but the likelyhood is that I'll be keeping this panel unless I can't develop a proper feel for it within the next week.

the fps hit is too much, even for outdated games like DNF with triple buffering enabled, 30fps when looking at a plain wall, CMON !
