Edawn v1.2.2 released

Edawn is an advanced Quake III Arena modificaton with many nice features and improvements

Download smart installer or zip-archive for experienced users

Major server features:
* configurable ruleset system - allows you to modify almost everything in the game (osp*,ql,instagib,cpm* rulesets included)
* competitive features (team lock/unlock/g_speclock/etc)
* advanced ban/notify system
* improved voting system
* rotation system
* ability to modify/replace map entities
* reworked FreezeTag
* advanced bot aiming skill (w/airrockets) for rl/bfg/pg
* vanilla(baseq3)-compatible

Major client features:
* very configurable HUD with useful in-game hud selection menu

I don't see how link to source code would destroy player's experience.
id software found gpl'ing their source code "a major thing for players". Only a tiny bit of it is yours so I don't understand why don't you respect their decision and apply to gpl.

'Play the game' and 'play with sources' is a different things and targeted on a very different end-user categories. And again, source link(s) is posted in corresponding forum/section, I feel no need to focus on 'freedom of compile' every time there

It's not about freedom to compile, but I'm not going to explain it to you as I was interested in ethical aspect of your decision.
It's nothing major as you eventually published the sources, but I don't understand why is it too much work to add one link on the site when this is what id software wants you to do. They gave us the sources and requested very little in exchange.
You could have posted a link to the forum thread instead and it would be ok. The intention of gpl creators was to make source code easily avaible. id choosed this licence so it's their intention too.

Fwiw gpl doesn't require the source to be linked, you can supply it on request - which is exactly what just happened, so that isn't a gpl violation.

Not really. Unless you accompany the binaries with a written offer to do so but he didn't. It's all in point 3 of gpl v2 I linked before.

If you make object code available on a network server, you have to provide the Corresponding Source on a network server as well. The easiest way to do this would be to publish them on the same server

- which was done as sources and binaries published on the same server (http://edawn-mod.org)

No matter what you do, the source should be just as easy to access as the object code, though.

It isn't. I searched for it briefly before posting here and didn't find it.
Also puting something on www server without giving the link to anyone isn't 'providing' it. You provided the binaries here on esr with direct link, so you should provide corresponding source here too.

Yes that's true. The don't give any instruction on how to obrain the sources for this specific beta version of gimp. I don't like it either. Still it's easily avaible from the actual developer's site which is linked (like 99,9% of gpl'ed software unlike yours)

I didn't defend softpedia.
Just keep in mind that:
a) gpl intention is to make source code easily avaible
b) gpl developers actually do provide their binaries along with the sources.
If you feel that you comply with gpl then it's your decision. I don't and I've posted all my arguments already.

4 clicks means nothing unless there is an instruction (and no, forum is not an obvious place to look for source. I actually searched the forum before posting here but didn't notice the tiny "source" link). I can land pretty much anywhere in the internet in 4 clicks starting from your site.

Didn't find any issue similar to mine on the forums so i thought i just post it here: with the quake3e executable the mouse is no longer responding after a vid_restart, so you need to put in_restart to get it working again, hope that can go to the TODO list :)

Updated all packages with new 1.32e:
* Added ability to resize win32 dedicated console
* Now you can set win32 dedicated console title via +set con_title "ServerName" command in app shortcut - may be really helpful if you hosting multiple servers on the same machine
