Juvenile, gerppa? Dunno if they played quake before cs. However there is quite a few cs players that was more or less succesfull quake players before playing cs, mostly old school guys that doesnt play anymore though.

The only good (not in the top 20 in the world or anything in cs though) cs players that I know migrated to quake/UT are dkt for quake and Burningdeath for UT ("Burnie" on UT, he won the eswc 2004 in front of GitzZz if I remember correctly).

well the problem with your argument is that only cypher and rapha earning that much while i guess in cs its multiple teams? (4 at least?). also its not just prizemoney but sponsor money too, which is absent in quake almost, while the big teams still keeping their cs squads. although i dont follow competitive cs closely but what i wrote seems reasonable to me, feel free to correct if im wrong tho.

dabears did place well in many online leagues and some lan's he attended. zet I don't think ever really competed in q3-ql seriously I don't recall him entering in any leagues but he did play well on the ra3 severs.

used to beat him some of the time(30%?) and even out lged him a couple of times while on 60 ping. he could have been decent, but he never achieved anything worth of note in q3, so it doesnt count.

i think dkt is the only one who ever achieved success in both and who started in cs first. guy deserves much props for his feats.

He's putting up a very legit question. Many people scoff at OP for asking, but I know for a fact that there are a lot of quakers that play CS at high levels aswell, and no one scoffs at them for doing so, or for asking the same question, with wording reversed.

Thing is, many Quakers who play at highly competitive levels have an urge to play other games, possibly in the same genre, at higher levels as well. Some with more success than others.

In fact I am under the firm belief that being a quaker who also plays CS is a bit of a taboo. At least for those of us that are more involved in the community than the general playerbase of Quake Live who play ffa, instagib and other public stuff.

Why is this? I mean, I personally despise CS, solely because I don't applaud the gameplay, nor have I ever had the opinion that 'realistic' shooters had any place in eSports (Assuming we're talking about eSports at all, in this context of course)
But I also despise MMO-eSports. Take World of Warcraft. PvP arenas have become part of eSports, and it bothers me to think about.

Ultimately though, I think my own opinion on these games is directly related to the fact that I am jealous that Quake doesn't get the attention it deserves in any aspect, any more. Fact of the matter is, Quake was largely popular due to id software being the pioneers in regards to FPS shooters, but when Half Life arrived, and ultimately a mod we all come to know as Counter-Strike, came to be, which had the purpose of expanding upon the FPS genre in their own way.

But then again, there are so many games out there that don't get the attention they deserve, and all we can do is hope, prey, and work for the promotion of a game we've all come to love; Quake.

On a more related note: Spirit of Amiga([SoA]), an old danish top-level CS clan, had some players that turned their attention to Quake 3/Quake Live. I can name only one however: CrashJack. Although he doesn't play at top level as far as I know, he's part of Team Denmark in some regards as the captain.

average speed is higher than horses because cs has been consistently more popular than quake and as such has higher longevity. however, quake itself is a faster game with a consequent skill cap that is higher (although not only due to speed) which means that it's longevity is lower (as proved by a decline in popularity compared to cs).

Also despite writing that guide he wasn't even a top Aerowalk player, it was just one map he played a lot. If you are a QWer you'll know there are a lot of guys who only duel on Aerowalk.

Lots, but with varying degrees of success.

Immortal (Q2 duel legend) - played for rs for a while in the early retail days and got to attend WCG 2001 as part of Team USA.

Blue (Q3 rail god) - Played for SK.sca and finished 9th-12th at CPL Winter 2001 and 3rd at CPL Cologne 2002

xenon (QW TDM legend) - Was in the same SK.sca mentioned above (9th-12th CPL Winter 2001, 3rd CPL Cologne 2002) and the line-up after, which won CPL Summer 2002. Then went to 4kings and played out his days there, best results being 5th at ESWC 2003 and 5th at CPL Summer 2003.

DarK (Q2 TDM legend) - Was in the SK.sca line-up which won CPL Summer 2002. Then went to eoLithic and finished 2nd at Clikarena. Later spent time in 4Kings, finishing 5th at CPL Summer 2003, as well as GamerCo and NoA.

jerry (QW TDM legend) - Played for the same SK.sca line-up as Blue, with the exact same results. Also played for SoA, lvl and Boomtown.

dkt (UT99 duel legend) - Played for rdw, finishing 7th at CPL Summer 2003. Also DoP, finishing 9th-12th at CPL Winter 2002. Later GX, iFate and zEx.

Fata1lty (Q3 duel legend) - Played for Forsaken and iFate, but never really saw any tournament action on LAN. Also played for X3 Red in the early days (Speakeasy CPL in 2001) but that was a team of odds and sods who weren't in the main X3 Blue line-up.

wombat (Q3 duel legend) - Played for the same rdw line-ups as dkt (7th at CPL Summer 2003) and one after. Was in two line-ups which came close to beating the eventual CPL champion at the same event, but then fell to lower placings: rdw at CPL Winter 2001, losing 11:13 to NiP, and another rdw at CPL Winter 2003, losing 10:13 to SK.swe.

Clan Z [Fukush, neutron, zibbo, Muranen, Gdigga, cable, prkl] (QW TDM players) - won CPL Cologne in 2000, but it was then found they had used illegal interp settings etc. in their configs. Just after that they beat the same team as in the CPL final, SoA.dk, to win the first CS EuroCup online. Fun fact: zibbo and perkele were the creators of Qizmo.

litzer (Q3 TDM legend) - had to help his organisation (EYEballers) out twice by filling in last second at two CPLs for their CS team, since a player kept missing his flights. Even though he'd never played CS in his life he managed to finish 4th at CPL Cologne in 2000 and then the same month won Babbage's CPL, without a single loss.

Xorgal (Q3 TDM player) - finished 4th at WCG 2001 with Kompaniet.

The strongest from that list would be DarK and Xenon. DarK was called the best player in the world by vesslan, captain of a top 3 team in 2002, and was certainly amongst the best players during that time, winning CPL Summer shortly after.

Xenon was on a stacked team when he won the CPL I just mentioned, but there was a period of time when he was probably a top 10 Swedish player, mainly before 1.5 when you could spray full clip.

You don't know what you're talking about. xenon was a Quake 3 player for the first two years of the game. He finished 5th at FRAG3 and 3rd at CPL Asia in duel. In TDM he was part of Clan[9], who won the Battletop UK and USA LANs.

IIRC event admins had no idea that configs could be edited that much for your advantage in CS, so it wasnt forbidden untill clan Z (quake backround obv config haxors) showed up to LAN with picmip 10 whitewall configs on floppy disks :D

And on the other hand there is no-one who came from a quake background and competed on the highest level in cs. Someone like rapha would have hardly been in a top3 cs team not only because the game is dead :D but rather due to his mediocre hitscan aim which is kinda essential in cs.
I dont even get the arguement at all because both games are completly different from each other requiring different skillsets which makes a comparison rather dumb but I guess some people need it for their superior ego complex.

That seems extremely unlikely. The only big tournament M19 ever won was WCG in 2002, and none of those players had the alias cas. In 2005 M19 finished second at CPL Turkey, which had an incredibly weak field. To give you some context: a Turkish team finished third.

uhm ye, indeed they were only 2nd(talking about the CPL Turkey), though I can't really say that it was that weak tournament, Virtus.pro, M19, Catch-Gamer, mTw, TitaNs were all pretty top teams. 3rd place for Turkish team was just because it was Turkey vs Turkey in 1/4 and mTw didn't play in the bronze match.
As for cas he had nickname "malish" or "cas" in different games, played in 2004-2005 which was fairly hard since Virtus.pro dominated on local scene

A lot of top CA players in NA came from CS, maybe they're not the best at duel mode but their actual combat skill far exceeds that of any top dueler, i.e would destroy Evil, Tox, Strenx, etc. in 1v1 CA. It's great that there are some duelers who can hit decent accuracies but in CA, when it just comes down to true skill i.e combat skill, they're nothing special.

The difference in damage done would be even greater if it were Extremerz(who came from CS 1.6) instead of Idoser(assuming equal pings).

The problem is except dkt I don't think any good cs players switched to Quake simply because there was more money and a bigger audience for CS.

dkt aka destrukt was ut's version of fatality, not a cs player at start.

I'd imagine for the most part top CS players wouldn't come to QL because of the lack of $$$ and top QL players don't want to play CS 8 hrs a day to get good and in shape because it doesn't interest them enough. It'd be like an actual job.

Very much.

You have to train at an aim dependent game a lot to be able to play at a high level. I guess once you reach a certain skill level you can take months off at a time and then get back in shape but yeah I'd say they all put in their hours to reach money making levels. I'd compare it to golf. In golf the pros practice hours a day hitting and putting.

Probably wont find them playing duels atleast. 1v1 is not for everyone and if you come from a team game thats often what you look for in other games aswell. Playing QL casually for fun just launching the game, the team game modes you will find is CA or maybe some instagib server :) So thats where you will find them. I know SpawN mostly played QL after he quit pro gaming.
