This Sunday starting at 11:00 CDT, we are pleased to present you with an 8 man Quake Live invitational tournament, part of our "Arena" series of events under The GD Studio. The Arena features monthly tournaments for Quake Live, Bloodline Champions, Dota 2 and Starcraft 2, all supported by AMD Sapphire. During the show you will have a chance to win a Sapphire HD 7870 graphics card courtesy of Sapphire Technology. In order to do so you will have to like their Facebook page and then post a comment guessing who will be the 2 players to make the final and what will the mapscore be (bo5).

I also think that it would be nice to have some prize money for the 3rd place (and still without any for the 2nd!). For example, $400 for the 1st and $100 for the 3rd. This will at least bring us one more interesting match-up, for ex. if we had tox pavel and avek spartie semis, we would most likely have tox avek final (and no one of them wanting to lose because otherwise he won't get money) and spartie pavel 3rd place game (with absolutely the same motivation). I mean, why not?

Prize money for 3rd and not 2nd is a bit ridiculous. It's unfair, and makes the competition seem like a bit of a joke.

Plus, if the players really care about the money, they might choose to strategically lose a semi final. Say you know you have a 70% chance against the loser of the other semi, and only a 15% chance against the guy who beat him -- that's $70 expectation vs. $60, and you're better off throwing your semi final.

I mean, presumably they don't care enough about this amount of money to be that lame. But the premise of your suggestion is that the money is going to be a big motivating factor. And anyway, it's just unfair on the guy who does his best, wins the semi final, and then goes home with nothing while the guy he defeated gets $100 for winning the third-place game.

Prize money for 3rd place could be good I think, but only along with prize money for 2nd. It wouldn't have to be a whole lot more -- could be say, $350 for first, $100 for second and $50 for third. That might be getting into the region of nobody-gives-a-shit prizemoney though, I'm not sure how much it takes to make these guys care.

Dunno if you guys have explored this already, but you should try to get these shows on the "On Air" stream list on TeamLiquid. They feature non SC2 streams some times.

Kinda feel sorry for alfaomega, all those breaks due the Spartie's disconnections probably weren't the best for his concentration. But he had nice semi comeback on dm13.

yeah it sounds quite funny by you. he has a very unorthodox style of playing duels, doesn't really run a map as pretty much any other player, but saying that he is stupid and purely aimbased is simply dumb and ignorant.

watch his games against strenx from qcon (i think, or dreamhack maybe), he outpositions him several times and sets great traps.

Nah when he made his breakthrough in q3 (2nd at eswc athens, think it was his first beg lan aswell) he was known for being a very smart player, allways knowing where his enemy was, that wasnt a given back then even amongst the top players on certain maps.

Also i think this last update benefits spartie's playstyle, cause for his style to work he need to hit his shots. He does alot of cheeky railshots and keeps getting in his opponents face where most other would back off instead, that worked out great in q3 due to stronger rail and generally better netcode or bigger hitboxes or whatever in cmpa atleast.

Pavel had a lot of time to become top 10 (world wide) and never did.
He hardly goes to lans in Russia (mainly because he lives far from Moscow where the action is at) and I don't even remember him attending a lan outside Russia.
Plus, his internet connection is the worst out of all the top players in Russia (since he lives in some crappy town).

So I see no reason for him stepping up and taking Cooller's place (if he could he would do that years ago).

My 2 cents...

pavel lives on siberia afaik... hes got better pings to NA than europe...

however i find his gameplay very smart, and on lan ping his aim can only benefit... considering how strong his rockets are with 40-80 ping, i expect some good results from him @ DH

I couldn't get it to go past 2 hours by downloading the flv or using the Flash player on twitch.tv :(

The Flash player on Twitch is a huge pain in the ass to use, anyway. It seems to be way too greedy when it comes to saving bandwidth. I only get like 20 kB/s with it and it seems to stop buffering at a certain point until you play what you've got buffered.

I hope the GD Studio website comes soon and they host the VOD's on there!

How can people dislike the way tox plays?

He's obviously not the most tactical player out there
but the way he compensate that with his way of
aiming is very entertaining to me.

His mouse-technique and movement is something increduble.

lol'd when 2gd started using all the superlatives (mocking fazz "nice" mantra?)

Anyway, I love the show. Great games this time, tox really seems to be developing. Hope he can improve his timing so he don't have to only rely on aim. It's a shame how often he loses map control because he misses mh/ra or neglects the yellows..
