Erm, I guess I am sort of, I'm 1.8k and I started playing quakelive (my first competitive quake) 3 years ago. I had played fps' such as css and cod before that though (and a little bit of q3)

He's not "young" I think and he played ET and Q3 before if I'm not mistaken.

reload from germany is rather young and also pretty new to Quake (he played War§ow on a very high level before that tough)

I wouldn't say that being young is a requirement. Just new to Quake via Quake Live, really.

I don't think he's been playing as competitive as he has been for that long actually, he's one of the players I'd say has come on the most especially in terms of the new school players! He has had his account since 08 I think but he never used to play it as serious as he does now, I'd say around 2 years as well (in terms of competItive play!)

Apart from burnedd who would be great if hadn't had such a breaks, I don't think so.

Maybe jaysson and pavel_ but then again I don't know how long they're playing.

I´ve been playing for about 8 months. Never played Quake 3.
My duel ELO is like bouncing from 1850-2000 up and down.

But the things I learned in my Quake2 "career" went down the bin when I started out with QL. I tryed to play QL like I played Quake2 and that didnt work out at all. Im sure that many players from the Quake2-scene can agree with me when I say: Quake 2 and Quakelive is so much different to eachothers you can compare them to Skateboarding and Snowboarding =)

If you snowboarded you will know the basics of skateboarding and vice versa :)

Q2 and QL have the same basic elements and if you take a player like yourself who played Q2 for 10 years in top divisions in TDM and even some dueling. Then take a player who has played some other games for 10 years.. Lets say, Mario, Diablo, CS and Halo for both PC and xbox and then you and him start playing QL at the same time...

I would say you would be 90% better in all areas than the 'other new guy'. After a few weeks or months the skill difference will be even more as you will translate your Q2 knowledge to this similar game of QL.

Things like aim, tactics, control, learning maps, and understanding the threshold of what is good and bad in general and adapt.

You are not qualified as a new player in this context zorre, whether you like it or not :)
Of course it's not a guarantee that you will be good at QL if you are good at Q2 or vice versa, but in general I think it's not fair to say that you start from the same spot in this particular example.

Ye agree.. i started my quake career when q2 came out .. learned the basics from it and became a pretty good player in q2 in my time i believe.. when q3 came out i tried but was only a few years later i dedicated myself.. and tbh i became good pretty fast.. still took me a while to learn how to really understand the game with weapons like lg and the dodging which is kinda different from q2.. but the rest.. the dynamics the goals.. rl rail sg mg plasma its no big deal for a good q2 player.

But yes.. people who played q2 at a nice level know that.. the duel/tdm concept its identical with minor tweeks regarding the weapons changes and movement etc etc.

So ye.. when i changed to q3 if someone asked me if i was newschool i wouldn't consider myself .. maybe new to q3 but i had knowledge about quake.

Anyways nice improvement in 8 months tho zORRE even tho you was pro at q2.

Yes, with that said. 8 months is not a long time to start from scratch, even with Q2 background :)

That was a ut2k4 lan at a netcafe and the machines wouldn't let us install ut so we had to play quake and none of the guys were any good :P But since we're nit picking I actually played some quake4 for a few months when it was released in 2005 but quit for wow!

Wasn't the Question who hadn't played quake3 or just dabbled in it before quakelive? I see cs/cod/et/wsw/ut/q4 players mentioned all above me so why don't i count?? :P I couldn't even do bridge to rail when I started quake live in 2009 and the only reason I played the game was because it was the only "active" dm game. I was hoping a new game would come out.. still waiting.

I honestly dont know what to think about zyrinx.. To me it seems like he sometimes plays with wh and sometimes not. He is just ridiculously dominant some matches, is never caught off guard and times every item to the second.. See sitto vs xt on osp5 for example, and then some matches hes just good but not 2 levels above everyone else.. Didnt he attend DH last time there was a tdm competition there?

burnedd is around 17 now, i guess you can call him a true newschooler whether he played q3 or not. Because he wins too much versus over 1800 ELO players (and was wining top euro duelers on his peak), but he never purchased a premuim subscription and had a couple of quite long breaks.
