Giving many their first look at true Shootmania gameplay, Ubisoft and Nadeo have announced the TwitchTV Shootmania Tournament, featuring well-known casters

Total Biscuit and ESLTV's

Joe Miller.

The tournament will be held on June 1st and 2nd (the latter starting at 13:00 CST), with the top two teams being invited to compete in the finals on Ubisoft's stage at the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) on June 6th.

Be sure to keep an eye on ESReality's "Live Streams" sidebox for live Shootmania stream info!

Ya.. some people are as good as these "pros" but don't exactly give two shits about the whole esports scene especially since it barely exists in North America. A lot of very high caliber players will have to wait for release and then catch up to the "pros" as usual :|

They should let in people who truly love gaming and FPS gaming, guys who make teams and shit and like supporting the community... Not people who view it as a job/profession and will jump to the next game in heartbeat if it has more prize money.

I too prefer more analytical casters, but the screaming does add a level of excitement.
Many people value that so much that actually, Total Biscuit was able to do a lot of good for the starcraft scene with his ability, like it or not.

Probably because most people can't differentiate good analysis from guesswork.
I'm kind of sick with the tolerance people give them too. I mean, it might not be feasible learning the game up-right, but why people with a clue put them [instead of people with knowlege] at a such position is beyond me.

djWheat keeps talking about his professionalism... But I'm not all that sure there's that much to it.

by the time it runs out, the game will be somewhat popular.

I'm kinda becoming biased and leaning towards "live and let live" ideology when it comes to fast paced first person shooters.

None of them are even remotely as good as quake (for me), but more popular shooters out there can only mean a healthier esport scene.

My entire opinion on shootmania will be based on this tournament.

I really don't like the name shootmania, I know It's connected to the whole trackmania series but still. It kinda reminds me of wrestlemania which is somewhat homoerotic to say the least. Don't get me wrong, strenx will fit right in but I'm not sure about the others.

I've only seen a few youtube videos of it up until this tournament so hopefully it will be interesting.

Seriously though, shootmania? :/

I can't get into this at all as a spectator. If this is the future of fps esport games then something has gone severely wrong somewhere. I simply cannot see what's special about it...

Then again, I'm part of that group that can't really understand the appeal with alot of popular modern games, I must be getting old or something. Quake is surely far superior as a spectator sport. This just seems like another cs type sedative.

They are smart man. If any noobs stumble upon the streams vods whatever, they will think: Man, I can do this too! I HAEV TO TRY PROE GAMINGZ CASH N SHIT!!!11 And the thing is, anyone with a bit of practice or knowledge from other fps games (such as quake UT whateva) can reproduce the amount of skill showcased in this tournament.

I'm myself all about trying it, plus this is STORM, new modes will come after the release, possibly with more weapons and shit.

I watched the Day 1 VODs for about 10 minutes until I became bored. I don't like the asymmetric game mode where one has an instagib weapon. I see why it will cater to new players: being lucky once or twice helps.

Also, it looks like there is no splash damage on the projectiles, so you must hit directly for it to matter. I wonder if they can cook up game modes with more depth than this.

They were obviously trying to come up with a game mode that that would be easy to spectate, but instagib is fucking boring.

Hopefully people can make some good game modes and more weapons.

This mode very soon will become non-competitive. It's easy to get just good rl aim, in QL there are tons of nobrain players who have consistent 50-60+ rail. After 6 months, all teams will consist of 3 railers and games will last infinitely long with defense having no chance to do anything. And there is no depth that would allow defense to outbrain pure dumb aimer.

Gotta think long term son. If this game blows up like LoL cuz its SUPER newb friendly and you can have some good times, but if it does, we can have millions of people that are being trained to play quake.(instagib + some rockets and fps knowledge)

Quake 5 would get a lot more people trying it out and we'd be afloat again.
