I stopped a while ago because I got sick of it sometimes not +zooming at the start of a map and having to do it manually. I haven't found a 100% reliable script to do that.

Also it requires another script to zoom normally. I just stick with the lowered gun x and z now as it is pretty much thin enough without the hassle. :)

Seems to use a pure lightmap setting, which means textures aren't rendered at all regardless of picmip, just showing how the light bounces off the surfaces of the map. It certainly seems much better than the usual vertexlight cfgs, as it has far more depth to it, not to mention it is darker (but not too dark) and therefore easier to see enemies.

Turns out the guy is using "Light Data". Go to Video Settings --> Lighting Model and keep clicking until you get to "Light Data", then save your settings. It noticeably gives maps a distinctive "snowy" feel. To offset the brightness, use lower overbright bits.

Note that it doesn't affect all surfaces, some shaders may override the effect entirely. On Furious Heights for example, the wet floors don't become white.

Ok, I remember now I was also using 0.5 gamma with intensity set to 2. The LG beam gets more transperant with 0.5 gamma (minimum) while the intensity makes everything else more visible. I think the tradeoff was it might have fairly opaque explosions, which doesn't bother me anyway.

Put the alias in your autoexec. I'm not sure if that works properly though, I'll have to test it.

Also, it seems like you can make the LG even less visible but you need to raise r_mapoverbrightbits and brighten the map in the process. That would also make it harder to see without gaining much transperancy though.

Do you want it bound so it goes thin only for LG but has models for the other guns or do you mean just to keep it on +zoom? For the latter I just bind a key to the alias eg "bind j zoomin".
