I have been using the Qck+/heavy for years. I had like 4 pads of them. They were quite decent, only wore of pretty fast. I switched to the Puretrak Talent recently and I don't regret that decision. It's a little bit smoother compared to the Qck+ but it still has enough friction for good control. Just perfect for me.

I have a razer destructor currently and It's a little to fast for me and I prefer playing on my polished wooden table instead because of how easy it is to control and stop my mouse. What I want is

Easy to control
High durability
Consistency through years

This mouse pad is not the one that will give you the best results in game, but it is the one that would give you the most memorable experience.

EDIT: on a serious note, i have the razer goliathus speed alfa and this is the best mouse pad i haver had, it is not as durable as someone would desire, but still a nice mousepad.

I own the PureTrak Stealth, which is the smaller version of the Talent, and the Artisan Hayate and can unequivocally say the Hayate is better.

All of the mousepads above blow and this is coming from someone who loved his icemat and still keeps it out on display.

People here believe in stupid shit, despite lots of objective data worked on by lots of intelligent people.

Steelseries is overpriced garbage... qck have got to be the lowest quality pads I have ever used and I have used/ owned a lot.

For a hardmat, the Razer Scarab right now is excellent. Even better than the destructor, the 9HD is quite good too, used it for about 6 months till I wore it out, now using the scarab. I like the scarab better, but the 9HD tracked like a beast too.

Puretrak was pretty shit too, so was everglide... they are all so similar and of such low quality. The goliathus was not bad but they wear out... the zowie is the best cloth pad I have used by far, but I no longer use cloth pads since I had shoulder surgery.

If you must get a cloth pad, the Zowie Spawn is very high quality... but all cloth pads are shit for mouse registration and lots of people here use bad mice. So unless you have a mouse with a good sensor (Xai, G500, G9X etc) you might not wanna bother with cloth... and if you have a bad mouse, you might not wanna spend your cash on the pad first.

But really, the biggest thing when reading peoples' suggestions is whether you would prefer tactile feedback at the cost of mouse performance, or better mouse performance to (arguable) the loss of tactile feedback. If you end up liking hardmats, you have the best of both worlds.

First, I'll start by saying that pads are mainly personal preferences between users, so I'm quite aganist about recommedned surfaces without menation type of glide/surface (faster/smoother/Rough) and amount of friction.

Second, If you have a "mouse with a good sensor (Xai, G500, G9X etc)" so no bet you dont like cloth surfaces beacause the ADNS-9500 works bad on any of cloth surfaces.
In general, it also have positive accelration on all surfaces.
(have use both xai and sensei on my 9hd, so I know what I'm talking about.)

Also, hard surfaces offer low friction and too fast glide but higher durabily and more stable.

With that has been said, cloth surfaces are quite mixed - some have fast glide and low friction (not fast as hard plastic surfaces but still...) and some offer higher frictions.

About the Quality of the metrials I'm completly agree, no doubt.

IMO the OP should the get QcK / raindrop XL beacause they will offer for him great balance of speed and control with Deathadder's low friction-feets.

Well I think it is useless to share subjective info over the internet to a large degree, but you do have some good points.

That being said, personally, i'd much rather take a bit of positive as a downside than what the competition offers. Hell, my mamba can't track on just about any mat... optical feels so sluggish... tracks for days after I lift off. I'll take 6m/s and no angle snapping or z axis issue and super low lift off distance any day over all the other crap that plagues the competition.

Also, the less I think about these things (tweaks, pads, etc), the better I do. I swap between my g9x (small shell) and G500 both fully loaded with weights and if I am not thinking about it, I frag just as hard with either. For anyone who has held both, they are not similar in sensor placement or size whatsoever.

As a cs player, I like the g9x for sniping more, and the g500 for rifling/deaging, but either one can get the job done.

The more people ruminate and fuss over simple things (especially low quality things) the more they put themselves at a psychological disadvantage. If they buy cloth they have a hardware disadvantage and also maybe a psychological one. Go for the win , win situation people...I mean, a lot of cloth mousepads are worse than just using your desk surface.

Sure there is the friction and all that jazz, but really, fine tune your weight and sense and you should be fine... but maybe that's because I am a clawer with my hand on the matt most of the time - so most of the fine control a cloth pad could add I do manually. If I palmed mice like a neanderthal I might feel differently.

Either way, people need to stop buying all these shitty clothpads based on "its TEH BESTZ" and start looking at numbers and figures.

And lastly, I have increasingly been skeptical of these huge surfaces. After my shoulder surgery (rotator cuff) I could no longer play on massive mats, like the biggest goliathus and everglide... and you know what? My score only improve because it forced better positioning instead of using brute reaction time as my primary weapon. As someone who plays 800-1000 dpi, and 1.0 in game, I don't see why anyone would need more than 35 cm wide for a mousepad, or why they would willingly buy something that will make their mouse track worse.

I play at 800 to 1000 dpi, 1 in game, win sensitivity 6, cheesemfix for 60hz... Not that low really. Used to do 400 before I had shoulder surgery... that was low. So about 41-51cm/360 :/

And yes I'd rather insurance that its human error, and not mechanical error with 6m/s. with 0-5% accel, and usually more like intermittent 2.5% on a hardmat... really what is there to notice?

the other thing is flexibility. With lazer, you can do hardware increments (well some are fake, beware of drivers, know thy mouse) so you never have to use an in game multiplier and a lot of newer games support raw input. From what I understand you can bypass the windows stack altogether this way.

Whereas with optical you are stuck with preset dpi's and retarded high lift of distances and a lot have angle snapping and prediction... there is no perfect mouse but there are some that are close IMO so long as you take a logical approach.

crap sensor + mousepad that puts it at a predisposition to track even crappier = dumb friggen idea.

to hit a (real) 3 m/s limit is goddamn hard, with your sens you are: SAVE.

well CS sucks in that aspect, most other games have sens from 0 - infinity and no precision is lost so no need to set your sens up by hardware...

lift-off is not related to the light that illuminates the surface, some laser mice have high lift-off too (I had the g9x and xai, both had higher lift-off then I would have preferred). even the same mouse can have differing lift-off due to a high error margin at producement. mousepad also plays a big role.
in short, almost exclusively only low dpi optical mice deliver perfect lift-off on all surfaces: WMO/IE30, logitech mx series as an example.

Well I just got my goliathus speed and tested it. This is my first cloth pad, I had been using icemat for about half a year. Tracking is the same(flawless, original DA btw), and the glide/friction is indeed a very good balance, feels like good control but fast enough after icemat.

New feet as well, corepad, since the shop I ordered from was rather cheap and they had no hyperglide, so I was like whatever, should work. The LOD with icemat and no extra feet was less than 1 disc, now with this normal surface and new feet on top of old ones, it's slightly higher than 1 disc. Bit of time getting used to, but fine by me.

Reason for change is that I got kinda tired of icemat. The sound, the touch, constant change in feel due to feet deteriorating quickly., so having to replace or tweak them often... I still like it though, might keep it. Gonna see if the goliathus shows wearing by time, although this new combo should stay consistent for quite a while tbh.

Like I said, first cloth pad I use... how am I supposed to clean it?
Soap bar, liquid soap yes/no? Water the whole thing or only wipe the surface? Wondering what's optimal/efficient, and doesn't damage weave/texture.

i'd wipe the surface until it gets real dirty. then see what others have done to it, some pads do fine in the dish washer, others: not so :p

I don't really want to go with plastic because from what I hear, it wears out fast(aka my destructor). I need something that is durable and is going to LAST for years. That's why I'm considering the icemat for a hardpad because the durability and consistency through years. I need to know what the most durable mouseskates are and how many I would need for 3-5 years with medium sensitivity 30-38cm/360, mainly using wrist with the icemat. I'll be using it with a WMO. Also, is there a certain color icemat that works best with WMO?

The absolute perfect mouse/mousepad setup is WMO 1.1 with hyperglides on a black icemat.

I dont know about mouseskates. Icemat has more friction than destructor and is more grainy in feel, its also cold and noisy.

I don't work for Steelseries but I think that the Steelseries SX, although very expensive is the best hard mousepad for your deathadder 3g (very good if you use your mouse at mid-high sensitivity and don't swing your arm to play games).

I also have the icemat black, Razer Mantis, Razer Vespula, Razer Destructor, but the SX is better of them all: slick but not too much and very precise.

If you buy it, throw away that sort little piece of cloth plenty of oil...
Instead, clean the surface with a good product and you'll have the best (but cold) mousepad all around.

I've used quite alot in my day (From friends etc) qck is probably the most reliable and consistant surface I've ever used.

Allsop XL Raindrop, used a small one back when I was a kid and then used a Qck Heavy for a few years. Eventually for pure nostalgia (and because I love it), I've ordered 3 Allsop XL Raindrop's (hard to get in Belgium so when you do find them, might as well get 3 of them).

Puretrak, everglide, razer speed editions, qck, all pretty much the same shit, just a different scent.

If someone wants a hardmat that will not wear out... well good luck. I go through about 1 a year. I think just about any mat would show wear after a while I mean, the bottom center of my pads always show wear first.

The only one that never wore out was the icemat... and, well, it was loud as **** and a bit too small for my liking.

honestly, if you have a clean desk, that is not made of glass... that would probably track better than all the clothpads mentioned, no joke. Pure blacks like qck is one of the worse surfaces, and those stupid patterns really aren't large enough for the mouse itself to see. Notice how all the hardmats look like they have a "metallic" "crystaline" "powerdered" whatever you want to call it finish? That actually helps. If your eyes can pick up a pattern (like puretrak for eg) from a distance and go "oooo how smart, that will defs help tracking" you need to look into brain transplantation.

It's a shame that all the mousepads which have the most marketing bandwidth are the one's people blindly swear by. I've used em all and they all have issues with the ADNS-9500 in my g9x, save for one pad...

that's funny because i fucking swear to god that my artisan shiden is killing my g9x's sensor. i used my first g9x on a QCK for about 8 months and it worked perfectly, got a shiden and the g9x's sensor broke in about 2 months of use, got a mouse replacement that died in 3 weeks on my shiden, bought a new g9x and it died in 1 month on my shiden.

Maybe you are treating your mouse too harsh, because it is not possible for a mousepad to damage an optical mouse. But the shiden is a hard pad afaik, so maybe you slam it too hard compared to soft pads which would soften the impact. Just a random theory but more likely to be true imo

The "best mousepad" is different for each person, it's a totally subjective matter.

All I can say is, that the Allsop Raindrop GigaPad XL is quite awesome.

I have one (besides other pads), she's 7 (!) years old this year, and she's still quite in a useable condition. One hell of a durable pad.
The rubber grip on the underside saw better days, but after so many years, I guess I can forgive her.
She's 4 mm thick, so I'd say she's comfortable.

The surface is somwhere in between the Everglide Titan and the QPAD XL and a bit rougher than a Razer Mantis Speed. Not too fast but not too slow either, I'd say it's a balanced feel.
I found no compatibility issues with any sensor - and I tried quite a LOT.

And the print brings the early morning dew onto your desk. <3 : )

However, Artisan pads are quite the work of art too, though I don't have experience with the Hayate in particular.

BTW I'm a wrist-player with ~34cm / 360°, using accel.

Artisan pads are the bees knees without question, just ordered the shidenkai med and hien soft (both large versions) and got them yesterday. So far it is looking like the hien is a keeper, I have used a ton of other mousepads; destructor, xcactmat, 2 9hd's, cyborg glide7, etc in the search for the perfect mousepad, and I can safely say I think I have found it in the hein, using an abyssus lol with 0 issues. I made a WMO adder and converted it to an intellimouse 1.1 adder as well, have yet to try it but will do so this week, abyssus on hien roxors hard, I will be adding slick surf feet (wmo replacement feet) to the abyssus to see what gives as well.
I am buying 3 more hien soft's as backup, they are pretty amazing, think i will sell the shidenkai, very slick surface, I have seen a noticeable increase in accuracy in less than 3 hours on the hien, also bought the teppeki mouse grip stuff and that stuff is gold nuggets on the sides of the abyssus and left mouse button.
I am an artisan convert and I honestly forgot the price after using the mats, same feeling as moving to abyssus, its been a while since io have bought something with a significant and direct performance impact. Hope this helps. Cheers.

it's called the placebo effect.... marketing 101 and you fell hard for it. sure they feel good but compared to what else is out on the market especially for WAY cheaper, you're just blowing cash

some things you need to know about Artisan:

they say it's made in japan, they're really made in China by a company called TigerWings Rubber. HardForums busted this when a user there sent in an RMA pad and got a return box from this China factory as the return address. After sending a couple masked emails directly to TigerWings, they got confirmation affirming the pads are there.

almost all of the pads they have use the same surface material but are "heat pressed" differently during the printing process resulting in a different feel. google out sublimation printing and you'll see exactly what i'm talking about

average production cost of these pads are between $3 and $6.



they make a good pad, or should I say have them made... personally... zowie, puretrak, and some razer pads are just as good and for a hell of a lot cheaper/realistic price.

Thanks for the info, i agree that they are overpriced but there's nothing close to what these pads offer, i've had both zowie GT-F speed and regular G-TF, the artisan series are much different, currently using a hien value red along with an ec2 evo and i love it, regular GTF was close but still inferior, the base could not still flat on the desk no matter what and the surface offered lots of glide but not enough control, the hien pads are much rougher and help you stop the mouse exactly when and where you want it to stop.

EC2 evo is overpriced too, but there's no other mouse with the same shape, not to mention the practically flawless tracking once you downsample to 500hz.

All "gaming gear" is overpriced more or less but when know exactly what you want and there's only one product out there then you have no other choice than to buy it, btw value edition hien costs about 17$ and provides more cushion than the regular hien SOFT plus a slighty different texture, not a bad deal at all :)

If you have money to burn spending some on a good mousepad is nothing. Considering people spend 60+ on games they barely play it's a grand investment, and yeah, it does improve my accuracy. I know that from the fact that I get higher numbers on +acc when using the Artisan Hayate.

Also, everything in Japan is outsourced to China these days. Get with the times.

Just to follow up on the Teppeki material, it is holding up over time however i find that as your hand sweats it does start to loose its grip, i ended up pulling it off the sides of my abyssus.

I did sandpaper the bottom glossy back and sides bottom half of the abyssus to reduce the slippery-ness when gripping the sides of the mouse. I recommend sanding it down with 600 grade then 1000 grade to finish.
I also sanded down the base of the mouse a bit (took the underside sticker off, sanded it flush, then replaced the sticker). Now all mouse feet work great and the mouse does have a lower center of gravity, which helps improve accuracy as well.

Love the abyssus, the modding has taken it to the next level.
Love the hien, Teppeki not really worth it in my opinion for consistent grip under all conditions over sandpaper finish.

Any mousepad that comes from Artisan. Depends on your playstyle, but their products are beyond awesome :)

Does anyone have suggestions for what mousepad would be good for a g4? My semen stained qck heavy is nearly untrackable these days yet to mention crusty :(

PURETRAK TALENT ALL DA WAY PLZ

Still using the Goliathus Control pad with a DeathAdder. Best combination I've experienced and, coincidentally, the only decent products by Razer.

I just ordered a PureTrak Talent. So I will know soon how it is. I have been using an Allsop XL pad for the past year. I am currently using a WMO with PureTrak HD slides.

i just ordered a PureTrak Talent too... I had one in 2009 and LOVED it.

I gave it to a friend after I ordered a Hayate around 3 months ago. The hayate is already peeling from the rubber base and the customer support for Artisan is god awful with not only their English but with the claiming the separation is my fault. I play this pad the same way I played my Talent pad and had zero issues after nearly 3 years with my Talent pad.

I used the 25% off one which make shipping basically free ($26 total shipped after using the code). Such a better deal than the BS $60 for the Hayate.

does anyone else recommend the puretrak talent, besides the anonymous fuck that posted above (he obviously works for puretrak)

it's a good pad, little slower than hien though. gerppa uses it btw

i actually bought the talent (not the white version) as well because I wanted to find out the difference for myself between the hien. Ive been using it for 2 days switching between the hien and I will say that both are good pads. As far as durability both seem looked they will stand up to use over time, it is too early to say whether the surfaces will deteriorate faster as a result of friction though. I prefer the WMO feel on the pure track talent with slick surf skates on it though, it is too me a bit smoother than the hien, however I can't give a decisive answer as of yet, I am getting consistent flick shots on the talent though from what I can tell using the abyssus, both the hien and talent are good from my usage so far IMO, will provide a follow up a few weeks from now.

I choose the Talent as well for use with my DA and Abyssus. It's a proven, widely used product that delivers for a good price.

Just wish they were more available in Euro shops but it seems puretrak is working on that.
