Amazing work, I enjoyed it very much.
And before the hatestorm starts I want to write a few words about ZeroQL myself.
Last year, when I read that post about him cheating on esr I was very disappointed and angry. Yes, I was among those who wanted to lynch him. So I noticed his entrance into the Xonotic community with mixed feelings. The Xonotic community while being small is also friendly and honest. The very most people there care about fairplay and have zero tolerance towards cheaters. To make a long story short: he behaved in such a respectful and humble way and helped the Xonotic community a lot while there is no real fame or money to earn for him. He doesn't take credits either for it (mostly I get them lol) but he helped to push the competitive community to a new level. To me he is a nice guy who truly loves quake and gaming and who did something very stupid in the past. And I believe him that he had no bad intentions back then when he didn't even tried to hide his hacks. You may say cheater = cheater but compare him to zhu/lithxv/fragma/sombra for example. They wanted to gain an advantage in tourney games with their hacks and still shittalk about it. I don't think it's fair to compare ZeroQL to those..
I know I can't prevent the shitstorm but I hope everyone at least considers to think about if ZeroQL really is the evil person who deserves that much hate.

Problem is now every single frag is not believable, and he ripped off Lee in a recent movie. In the end I'm glad he is not playing QL lol.

As for the movie itself:
- Sort of meh game. Sorry but it looks like nothing special, removed all skill in using the rocket launcher and multiple midairs look absurdly easy (hit one and the enemy becomes steady).
- Quake maps, all the time. There shouldn't be one in first place but in this one is like 1/2.
- Way too long for a movie in which half the frags are average.

So it should be a 7, but the new biased policy (current one is q2 = 10) is zeroql = 0.

On a developer's POV:
Dunno, you have to ask the players, I'm nowadays only doing PR stuff (I don't have time anymore to do serious mapping or anything else).
For me, developing this is just: fun. A hobby. And there are ppl out there who seems to like what I create. It might not be par on (of course it is not!) professional artists' works, still if some consideres it "good enough for me", then I'm happy.
Not to mention I've found good friends there too (yep, there are people on IRC you know).

For others (like coders) it's a good opportunity to test and expand their skills. For some, it even helped to recognised more @ their jobs eg. the boss of Antibody, (who made our stats system) requested him to include XonStats in his CV.

-no, rockets are not locking on targets, you manually CURVE THEM
-no, it's not lag and not bad netcode if you see rockets blow up in midair - you can detonat them prematurely
-yes, there IS brightskin in the game - in fact, you can only see that in the movie
-yes, you can totally make everything picmipped to hell
-no, currently there's no lightning gun, but it is in plan, and is WIP - done, when it's done!
-yes, there are multiple anticheat protections in the game against wallhacks, aimbots, and speedhacks
-the game is in BETA stage. Look at it while keeping that in mind.

You hold down mouse1 and you can cause the rocket to pivot in the air depending on how fast and it what direction you move your mouse. You can use it to hit around corners but it's very challenging once you can no longer see the rocket, as you have to rely on map knowledge.

Movie was good. Nothing transcendant but well worth the 18 minutes.

I played Xonotic 3 or 4 times so I think those frags were good even if some were easy to get in my opinion, not sure about that to be honest.

Quality was top notch in my 3GB file, basically uncompressed goodness.

Editing was clean, with some good syncs. I think Xonotic's moviemaker's options are quite limited when it comes to cams aren't they ? Otherwise this could have use more of those.

Music was bad to be honest... For once zql gets out of violin shit its this terrible bullshit.

Another thing, please get your english checked if you're not a proficient speaker. That statement was ruined by bad english.

honestly, Xonotic is a lot more interesting to play then QL:
- It has bunnyhopping and ramp jumps
- It has 2 types of attack for each weapon!
- It has NexBall
- it has CTF with Vehicles
- it has uber impressive particle effects
- It has a multilingual UI
..... (to boring to type etc)
- and it is free!

Well it's optional.. you can still play good old classic ctf in Xonotic. I personally can't stand vehicles ctf either but it seems to attract new players and some devs have fun working on it, so who cares.

Well it's an open project, people can play/add whatever maps they want (like it was in any quake before ql..). I don't see how this is negative, seems like ql makes people dumb.

Well, the advantage is that for new players its quiet easy to get into the game, but the disadvantage is that there are a plenty of players who stick to the remakes

i watched it, every arena shooter had 1-3 new hitmaps that rock hard and present the game in all its glory. so it doesnt matter if there are some remake maps around.

new good maps are hard to design. in the meantime you can release chaotic generic layouts (like maps in the new call of dutys) or do remakes. believe me, these filler maps doesnt do damage to a new game.

There is currently a duel mapping contest ongoing which will provide new quality maps (I've seen 3 very promising betas, hope it will get more! See this one for example, cityyy's contribution). The upcoming duel tournaments will feature as many original maps as possible.

Btw, I hate to say it but QL still got by far the most activity from all fps in that genre.

its normal that there exists variations or clients of a game. q3 osp/cpma, x-battle/q4max. classic doom has today 4 different multiplayer clients (doom ports). there isnt 1 game that unite a community. as a quaker we should now that by now. until today the counterstrike scene thinks csgo will unite cs1.6 and css, and it will not happened.

competitive wise xonotic is no danger to quakelive. did warsow steal players from quakelive? no. so let them do their thing.

i just played it tonight, first time a bit longer. its a mix of games, quake / unreal tournament / painkiller. its fun, weapons are interesting (again a mix from games), bunnyhopp is nice. even a ut2k4/halo ctf mode with vehicles is in it. some people trickjump. custom maps via autodownload feature. on some server the entire quake 3 maps as a conversion are available. sure they work layout wise, but they are not really important, its more a ovation to q3. there are better maps in the game, specific for the highspeed movement of game. my alien player character was grunting like a strogg in etqw. one sand texture on a map reminded me of quake 4. the devers have their roots, i like that. and the players were nice (unlike the rude ql public players). a well done game with lost of good customizations via game menü. im suprised, its better than i thought. btw i saw a bunch of quakers haha.

i read this "why" hundred of times. mostly it suggests that quake 3 / quakelive is the king in town and all other games are crap. this perspective comes from the competitive community, i get that. quake 4 / quakelive didnt do anything new either. you want the next big fps competitive title with revolutionary features. who wouldnt. but this isnt clearly the motivation behind xonotic.

the real answere is this. community developers like their projects. they never give up, the same as artists. they create something, for them there is no "why". every project has some new features under the surface. for the creativity and energy i respect every community dev team in the doom / quake universe. why is it a waste of time, if the devs have fun and x players like it.

You wanna hear why xonotic will always be miles ahead of quakelive for me?

If there is an decision to make during development the question isnt :how much money can we earn with that?...the question is:Will it make the game better?
There is no money involved.Everything is totally open.Everyone is free to contribute their ideas.The community doesnt have to whine on forums for months till someone starts to care about their problems.(if someone cares at all)
If you feel like the game needs some new stuff u can eather do it yourself if you have the skills or tell your ideas to some of the many people in the xonotic community that love developing this game.

i found out that modders, mostly the dev team leaders, are not the best communicating people, so they want archive their personal goals, and often are not interested in what the community says. they have their orginazing work with the other modders. but they do their job as leaders very good :) so thats nice to know about xonotic that its really open to new ideas.

anyway, as i quake newsposter, i played many community quake games / arena shooters over the years. the bigger ones are alien arena, world of padman, open arena, warsow, tremulous, urban terror. i didnt like the first versions of the old nexiuz. it was at that time when warsow was new. now im positive suprised where nexiuz/xonotic went.

Unfortunately, Open Arena seems pretty dead. :(

maybe they are in a dilema. they want a free quake 3, with remodeled graphics skins weapons. if they change the game to much for a greater attraction, go farther away from q3, the q3 maps / mechanics makes no more sense. maybe im wrong.

I watched it entirely in UberHQ. To me the best part starts at 12:00. Music is realy not my taste until that minute mark but the editing and frags ala quake1 are very tasty. Realy liked the duel parts also with commentary. Neat effects! 10/10 for me.

ut2004 onslaught was amazing back in the day. As for other mods, without rose tinted glasses I can't think of a truly great vanilla UT map, hence why they play quake maps and we don't theirs.

played this yesterday, it has to be said, the game is rather nice looking.

some thing though just felt wierd:

the movement: very strange side to side manouverability imo. you cant really go that fast without rj's/lj's but u can slalom like mad ^^.

the weaponswitching: i understand the rationale for being able to switch weapon between reloads but i feel that it can deleverage advantageous positions: to maintain high damage output you really have to switch weapon, despite it perhaps not being optimal - if u dont switch you might find yourself getting wtfpwned by someone who did..

throughfloors damage: getting shot through floors by a player that gets himself into what should be the worst position possible.

This is actually starting to looking pretty good, the player models seem good something wsw could never get right.

some of the weapons in this game are indeed really cool, but the weaponset is really bloated and you can see that the xonotic/nexuiz projects were very much technically driven.

Most the principle but how it affects the gameplay also, in the early alphas it was way worse as you could walljump contently but still i never liked the mechanic it alway seemed more a gimmick and i think it makes for bad map design.
