its the opposite of quake, poker feels and looks easy in the beginning but its really hard at the upper levels with high variance. Quake is low variance and "easy" for the better player.

Where did I say it was a shitty game? Its a pretty good game, considering todays standards, and an addictive one with the well made ladder.

I said it was a shitty sequel, because it killed what made sc1 so unique: the micro/macro aspects of the game. Also I feel the units are much worse in terms of countering each others build.

The fact that youre getting plenty of tourmanents seems logical enough, starcraft brand is very hyped and after sc2 was released, most of the warcraft scene switched, as it seemed a better choice in terms of prize money. Doesnt make it an awesome game though.

Kid, search for 1st person vods of korean progamers to see what it took to master Bw and compare it to sc2: hold down a key for your macro, hold down a key and left click for micro. I am not disappointed that Sc2 is different, I am disappointed that its worse in every single aspect of competitive gameplay.

So how come someone like stephano completly destroyed the Western scene for a whole fucking year without having any real competition. Same with MVP, winning gsl 4 times. Guess both had a shit ton of luck.

I'm not defending the game, im just stating that ur full of shit. Yes micro is harder in scbw, while noobs have a less stressful time in sc2. But this does not mean the pro's can slack aswell, they will get slaughtered in any serious match. Seriously, the APM hasnt changed, merely the style, which isn't a bad thing.

Watch any euro match and you will see the skillceiling hasnt been reached in sc2. Stop comparing a decade old game with veterans to the current state of starcraft 2 where people are still developing.

And yes, people really are developing in sc2, unlike the game itself is. Im pretty sure there are things yet to be discovered, such as muta stack / patrol attack / waypoint mines back in the days of bw, but it seems pretty clear that micro and macro are not happening simply because of how does the game work.

at the moment, yes. people are clueless when it comes to micro'ing in battles as it is, hence why sc2 needs more time for it to be compared to scbw micro. sc2 has more units on the screen which means higher skillceiling micro-wise during battles. And YES, I KNOW scbw requires more micro when comparing the games in their current states, but its mandatory micro that adds NOTHING.

It seems like you have never played or seen bw, Id recommend you to do that before you go on with your posts.

Sc2 has been out for two years. Unlike starcraft 1, its a competitive title since the day one, and all the knowledge is instantly shared amongst the community. People are not clueless, its just the game giving you less freedom and possibilities.

dude.jpeg ur reading it all wrong ;p sc2 has just automated the boring mandatory shit, so more apm/reactiontime/anything is avail for battles in sc2.

sc2 has yet to get an expansion. will have to see how the game turns out then, assuming theyre gonna add units to multiplayer

i still think u cant really compare sc2 to scbw. sure they had over a decade of experience to learn and create sc2, but everyone knows that not a single company has succeeded to create an equal or better game after such a long development time on the prequel in the game series. sc2 is in a different stage, not yet perfected, and untill that day comes u cant really bury sc2 into the ground. its actually pretty good as far as competitive rts goes. just need people to show some creativity (thats why i find TLO the best sc2 player atm :P ) and get better at combat managing.

anyway im rambling on, high as a kite atm, better stop myself :x

Any of today's pros, and probably anyone rated A+ or A on iccup, would have a ridiculous winning record if they were sent back in time 12 years and competed in the first OSL.

I had the same thought, but...
1) He probably knows this way way better than either of us.
2) He did say "ridiculous winning record" not just "winning record".
3) The maps, balance, etc, were different back then and would take much getting used to for any modern non-pro.

Pretty sure he's out of touch with the bw scene, unless what was C+ when I used to play 3-4 years ago became A ( I was a rather solid C player in every matchup except pvp/tvt as it would bore me to death and B- in TvZ ).
The game hasn't changed since may 2001, except for the random exploits being fixed here and there.
Lost Temple was actually considered balanced back in the days ( esp. the many tweaked versions ). It's pretty fucked up by today's standards.
The maps that were considered broken or loto back then would be broken down and abused in such ways that they'd have their incredible winning record without breaking a sweat for a long while. Just give a competent C player a list of 5 maps, an era to focus on and 2 weeks, you'd be amazed.

The first OSL was in the February of 2000, with a spawning pool that cost 150 minerals, insanely strong psi storm, island maps, etc. It was very different, and the best players practiced in those conditions way more than any C player does. Obviously anyone from the future would have a gigantic advantage but my point is it's not as much of an automatic pushover as it seems at first.

If you tried to seige their natural every game on LT, they would obviously catch on and do some micro heavy gateway all in that was popular back then or something.

And after getting their siege fucked for the 7th time during a prac game, they'd found out a strat thanks to the 12 years of experience/theory they have that would annihilate said counter.

It's not an instant pushover, true but it's a pretty fucking fast and predictable one.
