I've been using Windows 8 for about a week now, it actually has some good points:
- Task bar on all monitors (I used to have to install Ultramon)
- Mount ISO's (I used to have to install something)
- App Store (some decent free apps/games)
- Better file transfer
- Better task manager
- Pinning Apps to side of any screen while using desktop (useful for chat)
- Switching between Apps is quick (not that I use that many)
I honestly don't know what everyone's bitching about.
Microsoft now want everything to go through their app store, as such taking a (no-one knows the figures) cut of the programs price.
That's what everyone is bitching about.
Imagine you're Valve; you want to take a cut of the game price AND you are then meant to give a cut to Microsoft as well? This is what consoles are for.
I hope Microsoft's greed really comes back to bite them this time.
Well yes, the whole closed platform thing is bullshit...
What's stopping them from releasing games like previously? (honest question...)
The store is just their attempt to copy Apples App store... Google did it just fine, why can't Microsoft? As long as desktop apps/games remain separate I don't have a problem with it.
What. How is the MS store any more evil than any other store, from Valve, Apple or whoever. I'll never buy from neither. And fuck the Kindle too.
When i buy a game or book, i want to own it. I dont need any corporate fag to be able to take it away with a mouseclick. Nowadays every Pos software apparently only works when you sign in to some account that can be disabled at any time. QL, SC2. Even mouse-drivers now, lol.
And LMAO@linux idiots being happy that this cancer infects their platform now too.

That likely will not happen, however its a huge privacy issue. 10 years earlier it was like you buy the software, install it and use it thats it. Now you either voluntarily giving information about your computer specific, playing habits, yourself and god knows what or you will not use the software. Same goes for indvidual email/IM provider VS Google/FB. Yes, there are some laws that defending your privacy against these corporates (although good luck with filing a lawsuit as Joe, AVERAGE Jr. III - vs - given multi-billionaire enterprise), although that will go as far as its worths more for the lawmaker to be on your side than theirs.
I also think westerners simply looking over what this issue can cause, because they didnt had a taste of it, unlike eastern europeans. Back than in the communism it was apparently a crime to listen / distribute forbidden music, or for example slaughter a pig (that is even if your family otherwise starving). Just such simple acts could get you in serious trouble (even being sent to gulag), however most people managed to get away simply because of the fact it costed a lot of money to put someone under surveillance, like finding someone in their surroundings with something to hide to blackmail / force them turning into an agent, filing reports sometimes for years, etc... Currently the information mostly is worthless junk (as so it was back than) however it is free and volunteered by yourself, costing them absolutely nothing to obtain. I hope these times will never come back but if it will the stuff you share will be there for them free of charge.
Actually just about these years the agent files starting to not be secret anymore, its not unusual to find out who you thought to be your good friend was actually an agent reporting on you... My personal story is that my parents wanted to flee to the Netherlands before i born, they had everything settled with their goverment as theyll arrive as political fugitives, bribed a lot of people here to make sure both of them will get the blue passport (there was two passports, the red one is only allowed you to travel to communist countries, needless to say the blue one was almost impossible to obtain legally for an average citizen), however it turned out the other couple they thought their best friends (and actually the only people they trusted with this issue) was actually reporting on their every move, resulting at the last step, when receiving the passport they got one blue and one red, resulting in either both of them stay or tearing them apart. Its good that this happened in the 80s where things were already pretty soft, 15-20 years earlier they would have been probably lured to the border to be shot on site.
Just all i want to say is that freedom and democracy is not so old even in the western societies to take it to granted, and these companys absolutely not the right entities to be trusted with your privacy.
there's no single reason to have it back tbfh, I'm using win8 for 2 months or so and i haven't yet found anything I can't reach in new menus. And to be even more honest they offer even more than old start menu with just a couple of clicks.
*sigh* I just realized that in the RTM version (final releases) of Windows 8 the Aero Glass feature is .... gone :( In my preview versions it looked so neat, but now... this :<
Maybe I need to try again some linux distro, to get back to customize everything on the system how I want it to look, run and behave.
