It's not live now. It's in US.
Nevertheless it had max 600 ppl afaik.
It may be fun to play but watching it is certainly not entertaining. Developers should have noticed it already. They haven't even introduced any major changes since last time I saw it.
Perhaps SM is bigger in the states, wonder how many viewers it wouldve been if it was a Quake Live tournament, which would have drawn even more players due to the prizes.
cpl dumped a million into pk and still nothing.
if a game is not liked, its difficult to play it at at tournament levels of commitment, cos you cant hide your own unhappiness of a game with all that investment.
100,000$ (USD) - 100-150 viewers. Talk about fucking denial. Would get the same amount of viewers setting up a tier2 FFA stream.
This is just beyond pathetic. Its the biggest burn in history.
On the other hand, im curious. Who are this 130 people? Were they waiting for this event? Like "ARHH FINALLY ITS SHOOTMANIA TIME 100K TOURNEY SON"? Or is it just really managers + the players friends/family?
I'm glad Stermy, Rapha etc getting money though. These guys deserve it. Would have been better if it comes from QL tournies, but you know at the end of the day its just money, doesnt matter where it comes from.
I wonder if this event is actually a tax evasion stunt of some sort?
lots of viewers are there because the stream is for some reason featured on twitch.tv even with its 100 viewers (probably a deal with nadeo). The times that happens with quake it gets up to 40k viewers (dh something)
then there must be some bots or whatever watching
then 20 people looking to flame and watch ql players (us). For example now is rapha/id/clock against gillz.
they werent featured as much, and those should be since they have a lot more viewers.
and as you read in chat, most people typing never tried the game before and lots didn't knew about it. No need to do a $100,000 tourney for that, just pay twitch to put it on the main site.
Keep in mind that this is one big and heavily promoted events for shootmania, many people probably tune in to see what's it all about, and still they're not hitting the 2k viewers -
The thing is, how many people will return or stay when the next tournament arises?
The only strategic and smart move from nadeo was to grab a few top players from various games, that way quakers watch for quake players, cs players watch because they want to see cs guys play another game, which basically means they "combined" viewers from different games.
Sorry but I am not watching for quakers because the game does not push them enough to demonstrate their skill.
Its like saying if you like chess, you would follow gary kasparov if he played tic tac toe, the game is so simple the ability of the player is wasted on it.
Would rather watch Heartless on thunderstruck TBH.
Guys, don't need to be ignorant and lie about the numbers. The replays were watched by 100+ ppl, yeah, but the live stuff hits around 1,5k viewers (and not because it's featured, when it started (19CET) numbers jumped up to 900ish immediately).
Which is still pretty low, that's why there's no need to exaggregate them in a negative way. QL lans usually have 2k on the first day, hitting 5k in playoffs.
Sure, but it is the beta stage and first months of the IP. For me, it is totally logical to have much more people on SC2 at the moment, for example. The goal of the beta, for players and spectators is to test and get into the game while it is in evolution. We are going toward the beta 2 phase and more importantly, the release. And I think the release will matters since the game will be more developed and accessible to a wider audience. We multiplied by 100 when we release the free modes on TM, we will see what happens with SM, even if there are other free FPS experience around. My goal is to make a game that is compatible for eSport, creative and without useless violence and military setting for both of these. I know that many will like this for FPS and it does not have to please everyone, especially some extreme ones who would rather see some extreme orientation. If we want FPS to be popular and competitive, it is more difficult to do than to be only popular or only competitive.
even though i dont like it much. but given the fact its a NEW game it should attract more viewers. i remember other games with small tournaments that had way more viewers just for that one tournament.
jesus christ, i bet even war of the roses on DHS12 had more....
I think they need to make rl more powerful so it's not just pointless spam. Should also be 3 on attack and 3 defense. Would be fine as long as rl and rail are balanced with this in mind. Since the maps are so big the movement should be faster too. Something like tribes + cpm + pk would be fun to watch. From a spectator point of view you only see people run in mostly straight lines with that floaty movement. Watching really small adjustments to hit rail without zoom isn't too entertaining in shootmania either.
As an aside it's kinda interesting that griffin and carnage resurfaced on the complexity team. Dunno who's on the other unknown teams.
the chat is hilarious, as far as I can see its 90% Quake players just shitting on shootmania. <2k viewers is a total disaster for such a big tournament. this demonstrates that you cant artificially create a successful competitive game just by throwing money at it
roflmao took the gamble of making the game f2p with microtransactions and constant development when that was a rare thing in pc gaming that isn't fb. It is sort of like QL but doing things well, including advertising (I have never seen QL advertised ever), making meaningful patches every 2 weeks and network stability being the #1 priority (the reason why most QL accounts don't have one match or even crash course)..
The game had more than 50m players before that was announced, and people never leave the game (it's pretty addictive). By now it has to be the most populated game ever
not sure why I bother replying to an anonymous but here it goes
there's so much evidence proving there's litte to no connection between tournament prize money and popularity and therefore it's a pretty spot on assumption that lol would be as big as it is today even with little to no prize money.
dota was popular without the big prize money. painkiller wasn't popular despite the big prize money and that's just the tip of the iceberg.
to answer your question: yes SC2 would still be this popular, you know why? 99.99% of players have never won and never will win anything. They couldn't give a shit about prize money
I watched the whole thing, because someone I regularly played games with actually won the finals alongside strenx :)
The gameplay itself doesn't seem that bad in SM, matter of taste mostly, not something that directly appeals to me though.
But what strikes me is that the UI design, map-colors, soundeffects and everything else related to the audiovisual experience is really poor.
I see 13 different fonts on the screen, some of them outstretched or stylized in a weird way. I hear sounds like 'flim', 'flam' and 'flom' and that's it. Then the maps are all based on sandstone walls with odd fences in the middle of nowhere. Why is there no variation in themes?
