or i could just play a free and opensource quake live clone, that has features that many were requesting from quake live for years and they still don't have them(integrated ladders, cups and rankings).
Oh and no silly updates that fuck with your config and add nothing worthwhile, no stupid lags from friends list or other reasons, servers wherever u want etc.
zenimax has arguably one of the most competitive games/franchises of e-sports under it's roof and is doing nothing with it, just let it survive with the help of some really amazing community-work (qlranks, streamers/casters, pickup organizers, scripts to improve the page, tournaments!) and 2 devs
dunno, but i believe that after ql was in open beta, there was feb->june/july where everyone still hated on id, then zeni bought them and now everyone hates on zeni
seems meaningless to me. we already know that id saw/see QL as just a test. sure you can blame zenimax for not digging down into all of id's decisions to overrule them, but I see it more of zenimax respecting id, and not doing the EA thing of just buying a studio for its IP and shut it down after a few months.
The community added all the competitive features, improvements to the netcode, as well as nearly all the improvements to the executable. The list goes on and on.
This time, the most they are willing to let us do to the core game is add a user made map every three months or so.
