edit: lol it was following the warm up of pavel against coow (both around 2300) then it changed server to some 1500 against 1400 warm up.

Anyway, another idealistic thought I had today is it would be awesome to have a 24/7 stream that only shows quake and related games past lans (quake3, quake4, ql, pk, militia, etc) and worth watching events (faceit legends, tdm final, etc.). That way it's a perma-lan to watch (cooller isn't playing? np watch the 24/7 cooller highlights stream), everything is on one spot, free advertising for casters, there's more than enough material (months of footage) and there's a new copy of all of it (always a good thing)
Would require some people to download the vods from youtube and twitch (no idea if the latter is possible) then upload them to the new channel.

Nice suggestion regarding the timescale thing, didn't know that would work lol. In fact I have already been making some sort of "internal elo" as you say. It should be in soon.

Would it be possible to calculate the elo difference between the opponents on a server before a join, so the lowest gap would mean this server is chosen? (ofc leaving preference for bigger elo numbers, e.g. if there are 2 servers: on 1st there are 2 guys with 1500 and 1400 elo, on 2nd - 1800 and 2000, so despite the elo gap being bigger on 2nd server it would still join, so people could see more skilled matchup)

Or just join highest elo server as long as the difference isn't greater than X (say 300)

X needs to be higher I think. Atleast for me, I'd rather watch 2400 vs 1950 than 2000 vs 2000.

Mostly because if the bot doesn't join the match between 2400 and 1950 the server will be full for the next map when another 2400-guy has joined. So we won't see that either.

The ELO of the server it joined was lower than the one Cooller was in afaik, it's probably more to do with it leaving servers when no one is readying.

Yep- it's a two minute countdown from joining to match start or bot leaves.

I think most people would agree to remove that when ELO > 2200 or something :)

I disagree, its actually someone like cypher who can run around in warmup for 45 minutes straight, him or tox. That's pretty dull.

I've seen it before with Av3k. It was almost the opposite problem because Av3k was just running through warmup on each map and the bot kept following him from server to server.

I think you must want to watch cooler more than a not known player. I know i would rather watch cooler. Maybe they wouldn't switch games unless people voted to.

OK guys, so I have implemented a new algorithm for picking the best server and I just thought I would like share with you how it works (at the moment and subject to change).


It works by giving servers an overall rating and choosing the best rated server. This rating is calculated by adding points to the rating of the server based on each players Elo or name.

Player Type Points added

Uber Pro +450
Normal Pro +320
>= 2000 +200
<= 1999 is a little more complicated. atm it uses this: (playerElo / 1999) * 90
so for example a 1500 elo player would be +68

Spectators are also included and given 10% of the above ratings. e.g. an "Uber Pro" in spec would mean +45 to the rating of the server they are in.



So now the question is.. How would this work in a real world situation?

Lets say there are 3 servers

Server 1

specs - Av3k (+45) Cypher (+45)

OVERALL SERVER RATING = 740



Server 2

tox +450
cooller +450

no specs

OVERALL SERVER RATING = 900

OVERALL SERVER RATING = 684




Server 2 is what gets chosen.

Hmm, maybe I should make it so that Uber Pros are +800 - that would mean that a legend just on his own would be prioritised over 2 Normal Pros e.g. tox on his own > dem0n vs p0ni ???

I prefer watching a close match between two "normal pros" than a whooping by an "uber pro" on a random dude.

let's say Uber Pro's(top 20 QL LAN players of all time) opponent should be 1800elo+(though I have no idea what elo should a player have to be able to beat uber pros sometimes) to be top priority so there's no noob bashing and it would be more interesting than watching 'normal pros' or any other high elo players

The best option however would be some list of the best current matches and an ability to vote for the match to spec in the twitch chat

Hey it doesn't matter much if the opponent is 1000 or 1800. If it's a whooping, it's a whooping and it's not fun to watch. So I would recommend to find a good balance between minimizing the Elo difference and maximizing the average (or maximum) Elo, giving a bigger weight to the former.

I wouldn't go for top 20 ql lan players, rather the top inactive ql players. I'm guessing nobody is really all to excited to see the players who are in the faceit cups every week anyway like evil, strenx etc. But there are only a bunch of players that people would REALLY want to see if they played even though they have a lower elo. Like Cooller, fox, z4mus, stermy, madix?, burned?

I'd say 2000Elo opponent would/should be the limit to decide whether uber-pro is worth wathing.
Atm tox vs 2000elo would be 650 rating, so the bot would switch to k1llsen twister.

My games vs killsen are far more entertaining than tox vs 2000elo :p

viewers don't want to see you more than what they want to see tox. That's the whole point behind the suggestion.

People want to see cooller, strenx and tox playing whoever, not a matchup between active players that aren't legendary like those 3. The actual data was posted by roychez himself (legends cup and first faceit thursday) and qlrankstv always gets more viewers when one of them is playing.

It's not like people created threads about wanting to see you against killsen instead of watching cooller right, or that fox vs rapha had more viewers than a cooller match on any ql lan ever.

People want to see k1llsen because it is the best aim rape there is. Except maybe strenx but his pov doesnt look as impressive :=)

people simply prefer watching their favorite actors instead of the objectively best movies. Same applies to quake every single time, can't think of an exception on any quake3, quake4, pk, ql lan or online event I have ever seen, unless it is the grand finals (not some random pub match)

Suggestion: increase server rating a bit if the game has just started. Should make the bot less likely to join games with 9:00+ on the timer.

uber pro is one thing.

but VIP/Legends that rarely play needs a super high score.
If someone like Blue decides to stroll in and play it cant be ignored!

I would really doubt that blue would use his own nick... Also I would really doubt that if the unlikely event would occur that he wants specs in there.

hmm now with the more interactive commands like !acc and !say. maybe some voting system to let viewers on twitch decide? idk how it could be implemented or what the weighting or algorithm would be but maybe something worth while.

maybe if there is a close call to pick the server, the viewers can decide by the bot stating the alternative server, players, map, elos etc etc... and let the chat vote.

Just had to make sure the algorithm is such that wouldn't allow the bot jumping back and forth if the audience was divided

Could the player info box please be moved to the right side instead of being slightly left of center? There's not really any need to see the weapons pre-game and it's unattractive to have the box cover half the screen during warmup, so I think placing it over the weapons bar would be a good solution. It makes it look much cleaner. See pic below for example



Also, is there any way to scale the text within this player info box? Sometimes the words are too long and get cut off or overlap other words. Maybe for maps it could just use the short names, like "ztn" instead of "bloodun"

edit: just realized, I guess it could go on the left side too, over the armors, since in pre-game they aren't important to see either.

this isnt for the qlrankstv but for the qlranks top 5 elo currently in game, i would definately like to see where the server is in the list, so for example if i was playing server it would say, fraze, 2436, premium, furious heights, server link, UK etc

A betting system integrated into the twitch irc bot,
makes average matches more interesting and brings in another level of engagement for viewers.

depending on how much information the bot gets about the match the betting ratio could be dependent on elo, frag difference & time left.

after that runs for a while, add stats about it on the qlranks page and see people obsess over virtual points thanks to constant betting possibilities.

Not a QLRanks TV suggestion, but the [QLRANKS] bot itself randomly disconnects and reconnects repeatedly from irc *every night* starting at around 4AM London time. Not sure if the system is doing something at that time every night, but just thought the QLRanks guys should know. Most of the time it is not possible to update ELO during these disconnect/reconnect cycles either.

From my observations it suffers a [Ping Timeout] occasionally when specific players request !updateca, although I recall one occasion where it timed out for a !updatetdm request too. playerA does !updateca, it times out, reconnects, then players B, C,D E and F do updateca and it works perfectly, then player A tries again and it times out again, etc.

Never seen it time out for a standard !update though.

Upon checking the !updatetdm incident, I found that the player in question wasn't in the duel database, although the did exist in the tdm database. Not sure if it's related, but could be a clue to the cause.

It would be great if you could trim search terms and add some proper error handling and user input control, because upon searching for a player name with an added space, or by simply searching for " ", it returns some ugly asp errors, and by just clicking on search without typing anything, it uses the default text ("Search for a player...") as the search term and returns Bad Request
