Well it was owned by a turkish guy and most visitors had turkish or rather kurdish roots ;). Was always a very pleasent atmosphere and fun to play there.

Well since broadband was late to Turkey and inet sucked a whole generation of lan gamers were born in turkey (me included), the banter of Turkish players was always incredibly fun and ridiculous, still is from the little I see.

Playing UT-Domination while speaking to my mate via telephone, because we didn't know about teamspeak and had no headsets - didn't take long for our parents to find out why the phone bill was so high.

Haha we did this in the ra3 clan I was playing in! One of the members was quite well off so rang everyone's mobile on conference call and we all devised ways of attaching phones to our heads! Must of cost him a fortune.

I'm pretty sure this year was when I upgraded from a 500mhz k6(?) to an Athlon XP2000+ and got the magic 125fps, with the help of my new GeForce 4 ti or maybe mx can't remember!

yeah. fuck me was I in heaven when they introduced dsl in my hometown. note that we didnt have fastpath back. so we bought a FRITZ! DSL card to reduce the ping to up to 15ms just with a better modem/hardware.

In the end we had ping 55-65 afaik and playing osp with that kind of ping was actually quite hard but you mananged, and eventually outaimed the 30ms bitches from sweden. always hated them.

30 ms bitches from everywhere is what I'm dealing with :(

Not a quake compatible computer, but its still interesting.

used to play with 60 fps, now i play with 75, since i'm using 75hz, i find it more fluid :|

Does everyone complain about you warping? Since maxpackets is still tethered to your maxfps. with maxfps set under 125 you'll warp like mad, and for no actual benefit.

Maybe someone more experienced than me can explain why it's better to play with 125 fps even if you have a 60hz monitor? I'm sure it's better but I don't know how to explain it technically.

First, if you are on a 60 Hz monitor, you probably want to play with vertical synchronization off, because it reduces image display latency. And if you have it off and set 60 FPS, you'll likely get a horrible tear line across the screen. Increasing FPS makes the tear line scatter and be almost invisible.

Second, input and network data processing is done every frame, so higher fps means less latency. Though IIRC in Quake Live this is not so dependent on the FPS anymore.

Ischju, I think your old pilot mouse is very similar to mine. What mouse are you using now ?

im using a ms 1.1a but I actually have played most of the time with a mx500 and then the succesor (518) and also briefly the one where you could adjust the weight.

I tried to switch back to mx518 but now i spent over a year to getting used to the ms 1.1a and now mx518 feels shitty in comparison :D / maybe cause its worn out as well. i use it at work now.

i love to use a slightly bigger, heavier mouse so I can get stable plasma and rocket aim back.

b4 that I used ms 1.0 (the newest one back) that had sensor issues. i used it on an everglide - some hard plastic shit.

10 years ago my internet connection was crap and I was forced to play on local lans around my hometown. I miss those times.

My friend still has the iilyama monitor and it works perfectly , unlike the half dozen LCD screens i have had to get to the current 120Hz samsung lcd :D

Fourteen years ago we connected our home computers to a LAN with my classmates to play Quake 1. Star-shaped topology of 300 meters coaxial cable (~100 meters each branch), spanning two buildings, 16 and 9 floors each, separated by a street. 1am, warm summer white nights at Siberia (or is it called a nightless nights?). we were soldering cables at the attic of a house using a candle as a soldering tool. Two years later we remade it using twisted pair. That's how I became a network engineer. :)

As for config ten years ago, I think it was like that:

I couldn't play q3 with that config, so it was mostly q2 and q1. I got normal config in 2004 (smth like radeon 9800 pro and so on), but never played q3 engine multiplayer until the quakelive times.
