This looks like one of the highest demanding SDK ever; I'll take a closer look to it as soon as possible but requirements seem to be far from "nowadays-base-system" not making it usable for almost anybody.

I know Megatexture is a big leap ahead but does it worth it?

Well since most sdk are completely private, it's hard to tell. It's also hard to compare because you need to compare the functionality lists too.

I read a complaint about that before - the reply was that it was standard for dev/tool kits. I didn't read into it, though.

Clauses, even if agreed to, can be void. Such as stating that using this software makes you a slave of idsoftware. Some things can't be agreed to. I don't think there should be any problem about this clause though in countries with copyright laws like the USA. The thing would be different in civil law countries such as France with the "droit d'auteur" which is kinda like a fundamental right you can't give away.

You can't write anything you want into license or agreement. It has to comply with your country's laws that are here to protect you from tricky agreements.

I don't know for sure but this just sounds extremely unfair and general ("automatically", "all applicable copyrights and intellectual property laws") and usually such license parts are illegal for a good reason.

Ahh, maybe that's why the toolkit is not available everywhere in the world.

idsoftware should really take a look at the UDK and FARCRY engines.
They both have cool texture terrain tools that are low memory easy to use and give great results.

Carmack is probably a genius, but he really has lost the plot since quake 3 in terms of practicality.

Still, it makes things more interesting.
