2nd: Alot of players who wanna come need VISA to enter RUSSIA, so it makes it hard.

The location is not bad at all. It's close to Europe and Saint-Petersburg can be reached by boat in addition to the usual modes of transportation. Besides if I recall correctly one DOES NOT NEED A VISA to visit the city if you go there with a boat cruise.

For it to be a lot of prize money, considering a split between 4 players and a split between top3(or more) teams it would have to be a LOT of prize money to attract international teams. Especially since travel costs to Russia are much higher for most ppl than say to the Neatherlands.

It depends, at least a 2nd place TDM should cover all expenses for players (and that would be +-160-200Euro for flight, about 150Euro spent in Saint P(housing/drinks/food/transport) ) and when u multiply it by 4 - you get 350x4=1400 Eur.

Seems quite impossible - visa for a week costs like 50-70$ ? (last time I've checked which was like 5 months ago or something). Plus airplane to Saint P would also cost quite expensive(from every major city it's like 160Euro back and forth), cause no ryanair/easyjet/flyfiesta with their cheap flights. If you want your LAN to be quite close to Russia, you should look at Finland/Sweden/Estonia/Latvia/Lithuania and if you want cheap drinks/housing/etc. you should consider the latter 3 really.

Russians have attended international lans since ever, but if they want to do one in their country its all cry? How can a lan in sydney get more support (not disrespect to Australia) than a lan on mother russia? Know what i mean?

one of the only good things about EU is the ease of travel (and even that has downsides). saying travelling to russia is the same as inside eu is a joke

St.Petersburg is really fine about that, even better than some EU locations...
first of all there're several european lowcost jet companies which got flies directly to St.Petersburg(Air Berlin, Germanwings,Vueling,Air One,Norwegian, etc)
Moreover there's Lappeenranta airport just 200km away from St.Petersburg which got more options including ryanair
Helsinki ain't that far either which should cover all possible lowcost airline options from all over the world.
Moscow also got a few lowcost airlines available so you can come there and get to St.Petersburg by train(though that takes quite some time and one way 20e-100e train ticket depending on train type)
Moreover as people already said St.Petersburg is easy to get by the sea which is an option for people from Baltic countries

So it's not really an issue imho, sure there might be better european locations, but this isn't bad at all and might only be slighly more expensive. And as for internal travelling you don't really need to rent a car or a train to get to the place which is in the center of the city unlike for some european locations :)

epassport 35€
Already over 300 bucks. Probably not worth it especially when you can visit dreamhack much cheaper and without all the hassle.

Because nowadays there are no Quake tournaments, where you can make money. You can win puny 2000$ on dreamhack, of course, but a) this is almost impossible 2) after paying aircraft/food/living bills you'll have 500$ or something. Not a big deal, if you ask me.
