was pretty obvious if you followed the last weeks after ign was purchased. if they had trust in their ipl brand they wouldn't have been so desperate to sell it separately from ign.

1a. Announce a fake huge tournament
1b. Shootmania creators will run and beg you to accept million dollars for entering their game into it
1c. Take their money and cancel the stuff
2. ???
3. PROFIT !!!!
World doesn't know about Quake. It only would affect Quake if it was not canceled and people thought of all competitive FPS games as of boring Shootmania clones.
esports need offline events to get into mainstream... as soon as this happens it wil be easier to get sponsors to host smaller events, with smaller, niche games, eg quake...

Alot of hate indeed. But look on the bright side. Now we only have like 1 half dead FPS game and that is CS:GO. But soon enough we wont have any so you guys dont have to care!
Cant there come a big FPS game soon enough that is arena type..
Smaller events and semi-pro is the way esports should be doing biz right now. As a hobby or second income for players. Building from bottom to top etc.
Not all games are doing as bad as quake. Your solution works for quake only, but for the most popular ones the correct approach is to go full retard with millions of dollars in prizes, full-blown offline events every week, tours, etc.
yes, exactly! like the fighting game community kept building itself over the years (and of course helped by the Street Fighter 4 boom)
90% of major events are community driven with no reliance on esports businesses. ironically IPL had recently convinced Capcom to allow them to use their games, while MLG begged them for years to milk their games on the circuit :D gtfo esports bitches! you're failing over and over and running communities into the ground
Hey, It's only been 15 years and something like 5 reboots from scratch, you can't expect people to understand that throwing money at something that has * no goddamn mainstream audience * instead of building up the community doesn't work !
inb4 south korea even though the people bound to say " but but but what about south korea " are the ones who have no idea what the country was like 12 or 13 years ago. A fluke.
