Just as an update, this is an issue that only occurs for some users when the Q2PRO client doesn't correctly detect the desktop resolution when going into fullscreen mode and sets a resolution that's not supported by the monitor.

The solution for now is to go into windowed mode by pressing ALT + Enter and then navigating to Options > Video Setup in the menu to select the correct fullscreen resolution you wish to use.

This issue has been raised with the developer, so it should be addressed soon, thanks again for reporting this.

You can accomplish this by raising the 'gl_modulate_entities' cvar by bringing down the console with the ~ key and typing (for example):

gl_modulate_entities 20

This will effectively make all players and items fullbright. If you wish the setting to be saved to Q2PRO's config then add the 'seta' command in front of it.

Did you download and install Q2 from the link I provided above? (http://q2s.tastyspleen.net)

Everything should be setup to automatically download maps you don't have when you connect to servers that are running them. Also make sure that you haven't disabled map downloading in the Options > Download Options menu (or by confirming that both 'allow_download' and 'allow_download_maps' cvars are set to 1).

That being said, there will always be a few servers that don't have map downloading properly setup, so be sure to try other servers before giving up. If you're running Windows Vista / 7 or greater then you'll also want to make sure that you're not installing Q2 in the 'Program Files' folder.

they are lying man. I was playing on a serv when quake was down for hours, after I got out of the serv I saw 'quake is down for maintenance' and a quakelive video showing plasmas rail shit video.

so its obvious shiterror took it down to patch it without knowing about sydlan,

someone told him and he scrambled to stop patching and get it up, and THEN fucked up everything.

IIRC, I read its not server related, but a problem with one of the computers dedicated to running ql. but i read that on irc and doubt that there is really a pc dedicated to running the game itself. Same here, I set my VG248QE up and I'm ready to finally play Quake again and this is down! Noooo!!

So this has been down for 2 days now? Yikes, this is my worst nightmare for work (or dream depending on my mood since issues are fun puzzles). I hope Sync, Sponge and all can sort it out soon, guess I'll load up Q3 and hop around a bit.

Now is a great time to at least try QuakeWorld, especially for those of you who only got into quake with Quake Live:

This is a full Quakeworld installation (latest nightly ezQuake) that has been made as simple as possible to play with a working config. It's ready to go out of the box, simply click the "playquake.bat" file to play. If you want to edit your in-game resolution, edit the "playquake.bat" file with notepad. Also, a server browser is included (the latest version of Game Scanner) in the "Server Browser" folder if you want.

just giving all users a few days free prem for ALL maps + modes would be the better choice imo.

I will need at most few evenings to get same QLRanks duel Elo (not an acronym, learn it one day) and same QLStats TDM rating.

I needed to dedicate half a year of my playtime to get World Tour award and I was doing stuff specifically to get it. Mine was #51 and to this day (it's easier nowadays) there's only around 100 awarded.

See the difference in difficulty? Now guess losing which will hurt me more :(

Tried Q3 (1.32) for the first time after 2001 (I was 9 years old back then).

Impressions:
1) Quake 3 is HARD
2) Playing against Nightmare bots wasn't as easy as I thought especially because of 3)
3) Having enemies that aren't bright green robots and who aren't clearly visible is much more of a challenge
4) Movement is a bit different, I'm unable to move as smooth as in QL
5) Rails are significantly harder to hit. I was always against rail being 100dmg in QL but in Q3 it was just right imho
6) Shaft - wtf was that :D?

If anything, q3 can only be smoother than ql; for some reason, i'm still not able to gain a stable 125 on ql (without flashy drops); also, q3 is lighter, if that makes difference;
The acceleration is different, i have never been able to replicate some succesfull sensitivities setups from q3 to ql;
And finally, actually hitiscan weapons are easier to hit, due to larger hitboxes; the problem is that you can't have bright keels on vq3 (yes, lmao); for that reason, you should install q3 osp and/or cpma, mods in which you have more cvars.

Tried SHOOTMANIA for the first time.

Impressions:
1) 1999year Quake 3 is BETTER than 2013 SM
2) Playing against noobs wasnt as easy as I thought especially because of 3) and 4) and 5) and 6)
3) Having enemies that aren't bright green robots and who aren't clearly visible is much more of a challenge
4) Movement is horrible, not smooth at all--->cant predict rail and being 100% sure ull hit
5) Rails are significantly harder to hit. Huge Bullet Spread almost on all distances. SHIT only hits @ 20meters or closer.
6) Rocket - wtf was that :D? Absolutely useless weapon on a maps with 2*2 kilometers size
7) Leveldesign. After gothic/cyber-punk superb looking quake3 style this game can offer only a green farm with trees and grass.(where is cows? i want harvest a crop)
8) And the final nail in the coffin: It is not free2play.

I didn't want to express my beliefs here publicly but I think you can get this sentence: I never was pious nor believing in any religion. Here in Europe (not to mention Australia), it's the third calendar day of downtime starting, even if it's been "only" 34 hours so far. We've been promised at least some information "this morning" but it's the next day already. And I'm sure it's not morning anymore in Texas.

I'm happy that at least the profiles are intact and it's now called a "performance issue" and data loss was just a rumor. But the communication is seriously lacking. We don't need an ETA, we just need a "calm down, all will be fine, your profile is safe" announcement from an official source.

There was that stress test earlier and we got in for a brief time. That put the rumors to sleep, fortunately :)

The remaining problem is - not everyone sits on IRC or reads ESR. They have actual tens of thousands of followers on Twitter/Facebook and the only thing announced there was "we are aware QL is offline", posted yesterday.

Atually, to make it more dramatic: that announcement was posted last month! ;)

- Quake 3 and mods
- Open Arena (ioquake3+maps, all 100% free).
aftershock-fps based on OA has accounts, stats etc. like QL.

Service Update Part 2 SITE NEWS | May 1, 2013 | sponge

Early Monday morning, the QUAKE LIVE infrastructure suffered a major outage impacting stability and performance. Over the past 48 hours, we've been working to resolve the issue, and have now restored service to the public. While all attempts have been made at ensuring the site remains stable, we may run into intermittent issues going forward, so please continue to be patient while we work through any remaining issues.

The outage forced us to rollback around 6 hours of data, from approximately Monday 2AM CDT, to 7AM CDT. This has the following implications on end-users:

* Any accounts created between in the above time window will have to be recreated.
* Changes to your profile, settings/binds, friends, and other account data may need to be recreated.
* The scheduled content release has been delayed until the site's stability is established.
* Compensation for the downtime will also be announced once the site is presumed stable.
