Me and hifi agreed on a generic API for both games. He did the implementation for q2.

He is also behind the nquake-online and q2online client-packages.

actually a free client is downloaded (q2-online or nquake-online) as part of the java-plugin that is needed to play.

yeah, in general it's free like cpma but you still need the game (the .pak files) as with quake3. eg., visit nquake.com for an explanation.

you can get around with a shareware version of q1 and q2 and download the maps later... quake isn't free though, no matter how easy it is to pirate 10+ year old games these days ;)

nquake now has GPL maps so you don't really need the ,pak files if you just want to play mulltiplayer.

Please guys, try it out and play - it really is a proper fully automatic ladder that gets the games reported automatically to the website and what not.

The success of the ladder kinda depends on the amount of players trying it out and keeping at it in the first place, should be a positive spiral. :)
