Cpma netcode. What can you say.
I remember me playing some russian 1v1/2v2 tournaments on 98 ping and still, the game would always feel good, even the rockets and nades.
Quakelive makes me feel like Ive come from the future sometimes.

what year was this? was it vq3 or cpm?

I played 100 ping cpm matches when this match happened(2003) and it was garbage. perhaps my network settings were bad or the netcode got changed in later versions of cpma. who knows, but i'm not making it up.

i believe some people hit 30+% nowadays on 100 ping in cpm mode.

It was in 2007, CPMA was still fresh back then and I remember I couldnt believe how good it felt on any ping. Mod was cpma vq3, one of the earlier versions.

Alright, so that nobles vs ds match happened in OSP? If so, the guy deservers a lot of respect, as OSPs netcode was the worst ever. I didnt realise it couldve been an OSP demo, just saw the cpma layout and assumed the match comes from that.

no, game happened in 2003 on a real early version of cpma(beta or 1.0 cpma)

thin shaft+nudge = easy lg in osp. lg really wasn't difficult in osp if you had good settings.
heck, i had no problem with osp at 70-80 ping. i never played higher than 80 ping in osp tho, so i don't know how bad real high ping was.

if anyone doesn't believe me, check out z4 clan 519 demos, i believe z4 used to play with 80+ ping in osp and he would always do great against much lower pinging teams.

Yeah, -20 TN did help a LOT in OSP, thing is, you could see that in /players and people used to kick me from servers whenever I turned it on. Good old witchhunt.

from reading the comments, it looks like ic beat ck while heavily outpinged on osp. i guess thats more proof that the osp netcode isn't as bad as people make it out to be. damn excuse makers ;p

btw, the guy in the video above is on 132 ping
his team is 116 average tho

Tbh, 40% rail on high ping isn't that difficult, it's rocket and lg that are difficult to use.

cpma netcode allowed good players still perform well even with ridiculous pings, obviously still a big disadvantage vs someone pinging 30 but no quake ever (aside from some unlagged mods) ever could match cpma regarding netcode.

of course there was nudge.... but this was before xerpclients.

edit: oh and yes I played alot of osp and cpma both, could even play 1v1's to eu once the switch was made from osp to cpma vq3 in usa, on osp this was impossible.

yeah, i must have not used nudge back then in cpma. no wonder i couldn't hit much with high ping. :/

osp had the built in lag yes, cpma had removed it though afaik.

It's Wansanity, which was a CPM tournament run in 2003. If memory serves this was the CPMA 1.0 era, and even predates the pm2 ruleset which removed the 100 damage rail from CPM (not important on cpm4 obviously, but I'm just saying, man this demo is old). CPM TDM is a different beast, the team with the better teamwork wins over the pubstars with great aim which made these kind of euro/NA matchups possible. Nobles were a very good team, but a 46 frag loss is not a blowout by any means and we won the series 2-1.

Even still, appreciate the link and the trip down memory lane...wish it was a game that we actually won though.

I'm currently arguing with a guy on reddit saying that the only reason he is losing is because everyone else has lower ping than him.

Get this, he has 65 ping. He says the people beating him usually have 30.

I have rightfully called him crap.

on 65 you can compete quite nicely, 70 and above gets a bit tricky. 80 and above is just meh. 90 and above is painful. 100 is the limit of "playability". 100+ is dont bother.

As long as it's stable I think playing with 120 is ok if you are playing for fun. I have played on EU servers for fun with 250 ping, and it wasn't that bad, but obviously you can't be competitive.
