what is that dm6 map you talk about? I know only one map in ql - harosh domoi map.

The game is old, the textures are pretty low resolution and some map designers have very poor aesthetic vision.
I'd rather stick with picmip 6, cheers.

who are you to tell someone not to use a graphics setting? Does the setting put you at a disadvantage? If you are talking about people's streams, I agree, but you can't tell someone who's been playing with picmip 10 for years that they can't use it anymore.

the problem is that quake live in many ways is not a game that is presented to how its actually played in many peoples places, other modern games like css and cs1.6 has no ability to turn off textures and lighting(vertex) which has its positive sides, the game is much more balanced for players who dont like to play with bad graphics.

That's subjective some people do have shitty hardware or they actually like the look better. I prefer playing on my P4 computer cause it has desk space for my mousepad :) also I like the segregation of addicting games. I don't mind playing WoW or diablo with 5 inches of mouse space.

Spectators, game looks old and presentation.
Streaming a fast paced game works better with simpler looking textures, and it's also again subjective people might actually like the cleaner look like I do :) and the game is going to look old regardless.

IMO max or min picmip's are the only good looking ones, anything in the middle is just a travesty on my eyes. In addition this game isn't slow, realistic or a rogue/assassin type game where you can blend into a bush or the surrounding area so I hope that's not a underlying motive -- can be sneaky other ways in QL.

Maybe just leave it and not piss people off? Passive customizability is a bonus and lot's of other games do it too. To me it's like saying tf2 earbuds are OP cause they're distracting.

yes it would be good to limit hz poling rate as there many crappy mice out there, that is as much realistic as disabling higher refreshrate for monitors in general too to not go up higher than 60hz, all would benefit for more competitive environments. think about it all these things like crt monitors with 120hz refreshrates and 1000hz mice are ruining it all comptetively as these things are quake specific and not really that much of benefit for other games.

First time I hear that 120Hz is "quake specific". Any fast game benefits from this. Same goes to 1000Hz mice polling rate. It's not Quake's fault that modern games are much less demanding to aiming skills and more like screenshot generators.

High picmip is not ultimate - while it gives u a clearer view at models, lower picmip gives you better depth perception, so it's purely a matter of preference. Having options is better than not having them.

What you are describing - has nothing to do with "competitive", it's causal. Competition means pushing every possible legal aid to it's limit. Modern games just don't allow it, that's all.

i am pretty sure cod wont benefit from either since the gameplay is actually derived from consoles with gamepads and then ported to pc.

are you serious? the are certain gamming mice that are way beyond whats on most computers, lets say i have ordinary mouse so are you saying i should grab my gaming mouse everywhere i go so i have same ability for precise aim. many mice are horrible.

there are numerous thuing that all add up at how awful some people play versus other, and then its not even about player skill but hardware. how is that going to make quake accessible if they cant just go to any computer and play against other with same conditions.

if you wanna compete you need competition equipment.
if you wanna play fun, don't buy it and play tier 1 or domination or whatever.
