Hook is a piece of code that a you can place before a pre-existing code to alter or monitor the program behaviour, so essentially the program will first read the hook line then proceed to others.
It is commonly associated with hacks though \ :( /

qlprism was so simple :/
not that i don't get it, but i'm too lazy to even take care of this, meh id... implement this shit in the installation pack, so i can just click on the icon, then tick "i agree !@#$2#$!^" next > next and be ready to enjoy all the features

The Quake Live New Alt Browser, each line has quite alot of padding top and bottom probably due to the oversized 'mode' images (black and white circles in second column) can these be resized smaller with the script so that each line is thinner and the browser more compact?

You mean an official id-made userscript manager? It would have been cool, yes. It would have made things easier for everyone. Apart from the obvious lack of time, I think they just want to give the community a possibility to have userscripts without endorsing it to give themselves the chance to cut it off if it's abused. Damn, that sentence is terrible. Sorry. Whatever.

On the bright side, an official manager could have prevented us from making our own... which might end up being better than what the official would have been.

Looks great with the smaller/slimmer text in the new alt browser.

However what does not work is the sorting of location and map, while difficulty and player sorting works just fine.

edit:
And for some reason it only worked for me when I loaded it in, when i quit the game and reopnened it, it did not automaticly start with the alt browser, nor can I get it to do so anymore even by deleting and reapplying the userscript.

However, I'm not sure how to force Hook Manager to re-install new version of script from userscript page. I tried to DELETE, web_reload and install it again, but still old version is being turned on. Unfortunately I don't have more time for this because I'm leaving for Christmas. Hopefully it will be solved on its own since new version is online.

if you downloaded it like me, with the right click save link as function, make sure you name it back to hook.js otherwise you will have a hook.js.htm file which obv wont inject due to the incorrect extension

Perhaps they are confusing it with the new QL's built-in ping display. To use QLPing, you had to install a browser plugin, which shouldn't be working with the standalone.

Nope, because he has the userscript ID, and he said that he sees it. He said he now sees two types of pings. The QL one and the QLPrism QLPing one.

It IS working on QL production for me, but not on QL focus.
It might be a timing issue of accessing some objects/functions too early before they are are available.

Why, it's not a cheat. I know the term "hook" is usually affiliated with cheating, but that isn't the case.

If you bother to read at all (don't give me your tl;dr bs) then you will realize that it is a small script that runs with QL Standalone which allows userscripts that were originally on QLPrism to be allowed here.

This is not a cheat/hack.

To clarify what was done to make it happen:
- ID guys added backdoor to QL application that allows to load custom Javascript code within game engine code space
- wn wrote hook.js script that manages and loads any GreaseMonkey scripts from userscripts.org page
- since engine environment is different than the one provided by GM, it was necessary to make some adjustments to most of the available scripts. That part was done by their authors (also by wn who is author of a few ones)

In a month we will forget about old way QuakeLive was run. I'm starting to see more positive side effects of that change (e.g. increased com_maxfps cap). It just needs to get all bugs fixed.

A quick look at the code shows :

Yes I love it its one less thing i have to worry about when doing a live stream for duel events the match starts all on its own I don't have to press my fire button to follow someone. I even edited it so it gives me a 7 sec view of the first player then switches to the other player automatically. Makes it easier to gather information about both players and the spawns they got and weapons they have picked up at the beginning of a match. If you can find a work around that would be awesome.

After about 15 minutes of noobish googling stuff I managed to make it work and I'm really happy with it. I hope that with time it will be even easier to get so I will be able to tell newbies 'go there and click that, done'. Thanks for your effort.

Was just wondering how the anticheat was going to react to injecting scripts. Last thing you'd want would be a false-positive over extra functionality. =)

Hopefully the possibility of addons doesn't hinder the effectiveness of the anticheat. With the spate of reported botters, I was just wondering.

The scripting interface allows to modify the HTML content of the QL web site, react to changed cvars and to send console commands to the game.

It does not provide any means of tampering with the game engine itself.

Depending on your operating system, the hook.js file must be placed in a different directory. Open Windows Explorer, and in the folder bar type in "%userprofile%\AppData"

On Windows 7/8 navigate into "LocalLow\id Software\quakelive\home\baseq3"

On Windows XP navigate into "id Software\quakelive\home\baseq3"

Put the hook.js file there, pull down the QL console (even works in browser-mode) and type in "/web_reload".

Then you should see "HOOK" unter the QL logo in the upper left corner.

It's the 2 keys to the right of P.
On US keyboard it's [ and ], on German keyboard � and +

The 2nd key toggles between different modes where the stats are written to (just your console, everyone on the server, your team).

The 1st key prints the ELO score. Can take a few seconds till the data is fetched.

It'd only matter when cycling, but to match up with your seta _qlrd_outputMethod "print" the second line should be:

seta _qlrd_output "vstr _qlrd_output2"

Setting things according to the instructions and then hitting the key you bound to cycle output methods should work... not sure otherwise.

Yeah, the "choose file" from message beep is not working. BTW after installing I had 2 sounds playing, the one from standalone (that same bip sound you hear when moving your mouse over a button in the ingame menu) and the new qlhm sound...

Some suggestions (or rather wishes):

- Minimize game to system tray
- chat beep when game is minimized (it's silent when the game is not opened)
- disabled console if in a chat, so you can spam your friends with ^^ smileys.

eventually got it working with 0.2 - had to remove as it almost seemed to lag me in game (been having few issues with hitsounds etc, only just cured them, and this seemed to make things worse again)... shame as i enjoyed the funcationality.

since removing (well renaming to hook.js.bak) - my qlive now takes 5 mins to open / close - is there a way to remove this totally so it no longer hangs on startup / close : (

Didn't stop qlive from hanging on open/close..

I ended up deleting ql cfg and rep cfg, then doin a system restore to prior to using hook.js, no freezes gone again.

As much as I'd like to, unfortunately it's not possible.
The Javascript user scripts have no way to change the window size. They can only change the HTML code inside the window and send console commands to QL.

EDIT: Sponge was so kind and told me how it can be done. ~~So stay tuned...~~

EDIT: this is now implemented.
Also new in version 1.2:
- when you enter a game, it automatically goes fullscreen
- when you leave a game, it automatically goes window mode

In a future version I'll add a configuration option for that

maybe add an option for fps aswell? the browser runs at same fps as the game if you dont change it manually/have a quit alias with com_maxfps

what i mean is when i go out of game, it goes 30 fps windowed, and when i join a game it goes 250 fps fullscreen

The new Option dialog allows you to specifiy custom commands to be executed when you enter or leave a game.

Typically you want your setting changes depend on that rather than on fullscreen vs window mode.

One issue - currently launching a game from windowed web loads the map in windowed mode, then switches to fullscreen and loads the map second time.

I'd like two more things when entering game from web:
- com_maxfps like frs described
- gamma: r_gamma 1 in web, configurable (1.2 - 1.3 in my case) when entering game.

I'm trying to find out how to prevent the map from loading twice. Unfortunately this isn't easy, because at the time my script gets the notification that a game is starting, the map is already loading.

Edit: script version 1.7 now avoids loading the map twice. It will be downloaded when you restart QL.

You're right. The extra commands are only applied when you use the UI to start a game. It's my only chance to change the settings BEFORE the map is loaded and avoid loading it twice due to vid_restart.

I resized the logo to 75% to get the space for the new menu. I didnt want to lose even more space to that pesky scrollbar.

- streams on top - they are a different thing than playing online or practice match, so I liked them separated

Problem with QL ALternative Menu , if the creator is reading this thread:

- When script is activated, no saved presets from Preset manager can be called (they are invisible) and no new presets can be saved.

- Options like fullscreen on start of the game and windowed at end of the game and some cvar settings are reset every time ql client is closed (maybe its supposed to work that way, but whats the purpose of it then ?)

Can these be fixed, for this otherwise very good script ?

The script stores its settings in cvars, which are saved whenever QL saves the config files.

If your .cfg files are read-only, the settings cannot be saved. In this case you can manually add r_autoFullscreen, web_hideLogo, web_embedStreamNotifier, onGameStart and onGameEnd to your .cfg

The new version 1.10 of this script now adds the preset manager functions from the Start-a-Match "Advanced" tab into the navigation bar, so that it's accessible right after clicking "Start-a-Match".

My scripts applied are gone at every restart, meaning I have to reapply and check all scripts from the hook menu on every QL launch and then do a web_reloard or else nothing will apply.

Temporarily replace the contents of "hook.js" with:

If that doesn't show "Hello world" in the upper-left corner there is something wrong with your QL setup. You'll want to make sure it is in the same location as your config files, has the correct extension (i.e. not "hook.js.txt"), etc.

hello world works for me (leaving everything else black) and i see procmon is reading hook.js when i put the code back, but I have only seen "hooK" under QL logo once so far. Selected all scripts ok, restarted and it has been gone since. Is it possible some one script is crashing whole hook?

Try the following commands in the QL console:
/web_console 1
/clear
/web_reload

This enables (error) logging in the QL console and reloads the whole web-UI including hook.js. You should be able to see the error message now.

The QLHM settings and scripts are stored locally in quakelive/home/Local Storage/http_www.quakelive.com_0.localstorage.
This file may also contain some standard QL UI settings, so only rename/delete it as a last resort.

Thanks! web_reload loads the hook just fine

I had errors in couple of scripts , but it's now irrelevant

I thought some script was the problem and unchecked all - hook would not load even on its own. Only would after web_reload

I started checking the scripts and web_reload says they are coming in successfully. But only if i type web_reload

So its ok for now. Let me know if you want me to try to troubleshoot it more.

The only way I know to reset it is to rename/delete the file
quakelive/home/Local Storage/http_www.quakelive.com_0.localstorage

But this file may also contain some standard QL UI settings, so I'm not sure what else will be affected.

You could also edit hook.js line 680 and comment out the "injectScript..." by prefixing "//" (see below). You can then use the HOOK UI and disable/delete scripts. When done, remove the // again and do a /web_reload

Ok another problem.

I have all the scripts working except the Chat beep script.

I have tried deleting it and re-installing it. I have tried completely deleting all my scripts, then the hook.js file and then re-installing and still nothing.

When I get chat responses I get the in-game noise where you move your mouse over the "friendslist" or "spectate' buttons. I do not get the default beep from the script :(

If you want something to execute automatically when you join a server, you can use my Alt Menu script.

In the "Options" dialog you can define commands to be executed when joining/leaving a game. You can put an "exec gamestart.cfg" or whatever command there.
Currently these commands are only executed when you join a server through the browser. It won't work when you "/connect IP:PORT" through the console. That will be in the next release

Since this is almost official, I wonder how much more effort would it be to create a 'QL Community Scripts' menu, something that comes with a script that can install other scripts by single click, presumably those that are hosted by QL, out of the box. My first thought, it would not be much effort for id Software to have ql-scripts github repo, with trusted maintainers, such as wn, and others, who could review the scripts (like homebrew for osx). The issues and development can be done by community. I can see this might be somewhat of a liability, but isn't the step of allowing to load hook.js is logically equivalent, and has been taken?

For those using the "QLRanks.com Display" script:

The QLRD seta lines (e.g. seta _qlrd_output0) are no longer required in your config. They will be created automatically if missing, but not overridden if found.

I've also added the aliases qlrdAnnounce and qlrdChangeOutput for use with binds. These can replace your current QLRD binds (e.g. /bind o qlrdChangeOutput, /bind r qlrdAnnounce).

Leaving your stuff as-is should still work if you don't want to mess with it.

I reset my full config after removing the old setup from my cfg so it wasn't cached.

Halp I can't get it to load.

I ran QL several times. Normal and in administrator mode. I tried /web_reload.

Is that definitely the folder where your configs are being loaded from?

Try /writecfg testout in game and see if testout.cfg is created there.

When it's loaded you should just see a clickable text link saying 'HOOK' top left of the game browser page just under the Quake Live logo, within the red.

From what I know, grapple is kinda 50% implemented in QL. It's there...but sorta hidden. I believe it's possible to use it in practice somehow. Maybe ID will add it to the pro server spawning settings sometime, would be fun for sure. And no, QLHM definitely cannot implement the grappling hook :p

It's definitely in xontic, and there were some mods for it in Q3...earlier Quakes had it too I think

Yeah probably quite difficult to make it look 'realistic'. It's definitely a controversial idea though. The possibilities in CTF particularly...and if it was offhand then camping in impossible locations with rail...

I'm totally in favor of it being added as an option (like modded servers or perhaps on some maps). But just like prox mines...could be a dick the rest of the time c(:

well the reason I only got to play it once was there were not any servers.

LMCTF was Q2 not Q3, I don't know how long it lasted after Q3 took most of the player base.

Threewave Classic CTF died because the soon to be COD generation only wanted to play capturestrike (Attack and Defend in QL) so there were rapidly no server for that too.

you could always try clearing it manually

%AppData%\..\LocalLow\id Software\quakelive\home

contains a Cache folder you can delete.
and a Local Storage folder you can kill too

then restart the launcher.

This will removed all your QLHM scripts too but not the QLHM hook.js itself, you will have to set all the scripts up again but it may solve your problem.

1. Don't use the pre release version 0.4, use 0.3.
2. Put it in the correct directory following the instructions on https://github.com/supahgreg/qlhm#installation (it shouldn't be hard, it's your .cfg directory)

3. if you don't see the 'HOOK' link written just under ther QL logo on the right of the match browser, \web_reload in the console a couple of times until you do

Also if it's the qlranks elo plugin for it that you want add these to your cfg too.
