maybe they simply wanted to get away from legal issues with original l4d maker afteer they split up. l4d2 is identically bad to me as the first one, i would doubt i would hvae ever bought it. first one got me excited and after i tried it i was really disappointed how badly and modlike the gun models looked. it looked like some arma clone with a weird sideways tilted weapon models with irregular feel, reminding more rpg games like bioshock. the gameplay is very dumb for a standalone game, you just shoot dumb zombie ai that run at oyu. way to stupid. you ran to a point than shoot zombies, i have no clue what ai director they were talking about, it feels the same on every single map, just running from point a to point b shooting tons of stupid zombies that run at you, completely unchallenging, like
the fun is not in singleplayer. online coop and versus mode (4v4, asymetric gameplay with the monsters) is the star. map design is brilliant. tank is quad here :) nowadays every sci/horror game has a survival modus with waves of enemys. thats the impact of serious sam and l4d.
Imo that's a big part of what made l4d1 so good, the dynamics of the infected setups. Having to deal with up to 3 (actually up to 4) hunters makes the game intense and fun to play on both sides, instead of going for a charge+spit the whole time while watching the shitty jockey get deadstopped. No satisfaction of landing a quadcap or shutting one down. Imo l4d2 survivor play leaves way less room for "skill", or the possibilty of hitting some nice shots. It's also pretty evident if you compare the amount of good survivor fragvideos from the 2 games. No double skeets to be had.
Not to mention they completely broke the hunter physics and metagame. Hey let's make the hunter slower, remove feet first wallpounces and make 90% of the roofs inaccessible through invisible walls, that'll be fun, right? Instead we get melee weapons and great campaigns such as dead center. ahem
And honestly a decent survivor team >>> infected team any day, especially if we're talking about the ridiculous vanilla config with tons of health items and T2 spamguns (in both games). But yeah, to each their own I guess, maybe l4d2 can be more fun from a casual/pub point of view. I know some people like the 2nd one, I just don't really get it. I suspect most of them started out with it without having played the first game.
I played the first one "competitively" quite a lot. (fine, you're allowed to laugh at that one :D) Meaning on the rotoblin config (with deadstops removed later on). There used to be a fair amount of tournaments actually

ok you love part1 and thats your game. i played part2 more. l4d2 devs can make the game easier, versus mode still is very hard to play, with knowing all the map positions.

thats it. with one excepetion, if the game bugs dont show up :) youre right, i play pub. i tried channel matches, pro scene, but wasnt impressed. my fav is dead air, pros hate it i think.
right now we see beginners flodding the servers. they die 1 meter out of the safe room, its like the game was just released :D its a total chaos right now, very frustrating matches BUT the noobs do funny stuff, stuff ive never seen because experienced players have a standard behaviour. i predict it needs 6 month until the pub matches start getting better.
i destroyed a noob team with only one spiter :) im experiementing with spit and one inf blocks the surv on the spit. these things doesnt work with veterans.
i majored a pro news here i remember, so i support the comp scene whereever i can. but personally i think its a pub game.
l4d is a singleplayer game with coop, its not fun at all to play the same maps over and over. i really got surpirised people play this game more than once. so zombies are coming from the other side of town on the next run, whats the difference. its overvalued, the game is not meant to be a greatest game of all time, even dayz is more fun. they basically lock you down to run through the same map over and over, complete bs.
thats why i really get dumbfounded why modern development is not more focused on sandbox approach where player is at least given good tools to run around the map, instead of being locked down in one direction. its a real strain on developers also, the keep pumping maps that players only see once, instead of making maps that going to be playd over and over.
the oldschool approach of going a to b is really too old, the new way that games like dayz and garrys mod create a world that is much more natureal and believable, than a to b approach.
just the thought that i already know where i go is really fucked up, its like dring a cup of water, what the fuck. we have so much computer power and all we do is creat some pretty shader walls so everyone can look at them for five minutes, all popular games are basically whoring out the picture and then top it off with a to b. its like activity for zombies, why people even play those. you basically already know that every shooting game will have whoring out the looks combined with going from a to b. nothing new at all.
if i never made anything worthwile in my life i would still have the same views, maybe i wouldnt post them for all to see. its all a matter of passing knowledge since no one in direct contact of me cares at least someone better smarten up with my talks.
the ego is always described as some self talk, well trust me there very little of that. i mostly just bounce off of other jerks in the industry, i read them so i guess people like to talk that way, i really dont care about anyone respecting me or anything, since respect doesnt really make my life any easier. i regret missing some of the opportunities but then who cares, its all part of some bs games until pc is going to evolve beyond games. games are like cartoons, they never tell the whole story, at one point you just grow and stop caring about it, even if graphics was lifelike, part of the badness of games is they never make your life easier like a bottle of vodka only giving some relief for a few hours
in other words i am not a jerk, i just copy their style, in my normal mode i wouldnt really care to discuss anything whatsoever. since the best people like cliffyb are all jerks i have to use this style so at least those jerks would hear me and at least change games.
they probably wont, apart from a few cosmetic changes, but hings like for example garyy's mod rust development was probaBLY INSPIRED BY SOME OF THOSE THINGS. but for the most part only cosmetic changes take place, like gorbachevs perestroika slowly blowing up the whole country that hates its all people. i was once surpirised why would russian government would be such a stupid institute, we are falling lower and lower, the empire is on the way down, we cant even value our own people. the way down goes through negligents of our own cultural gems, even like my mod, a sign of decline when you value your own creations lower then imported garbgage from the west.

it has multiplayer... coop & VERSUS mode in multiplayer. quake mp has the same maps over and over too... you have a random pattern. zombie waves, special infected attacks, tank & witch arrival and position. and valve implented a luck factor. the witch can go off or not [bug?], special infected have a slightly attack delay if they controlled by humans, kanisters when moved by survivors are flammable by spit from spitter, tank can spawn in fire [bug?], car alarm followed by a zombie wave.
things can work or not :) its not every time the same setup.
in versus mode all little things in the map are dangerous. you will see the map quality only in versus mode. maybe versus isnt the center of the game. for me it is the core and the most fun!
they call it multiplayer but its really singleplayer with coop, any multiplayer game has multiple spawnpoints. running from a to b is purealy a singleplayer game concept
