sorry I'm just bummed I can't barely play a single game without getting this error. I've been a paying customer ever since it was available, I also recently attended the quakelive duel tournament at dreamhack winter 2013, quakelive means a lot to me.

I forget to mention,but before the release of the new stand-alone version I would go 999 in-game once every couple of matches, but I would just need to spam my net_restart bind and things would then automatically sort themselves out.

Now if I go 999 I can't reconnect back to the server (or any other server with the same IP port) unless reboot my pc and/or disconnect/connect my modem. Any idea how to fix this?

Try connecting via a nearby VPN to see if you get disconnected as well. Won't give you good ping ofc, but might help to narrow the problem down.

hmm, how do I that? I'm a bit challenged when it comes to computers to be honest.

update: someone suggested I try com_idlesleep 0, problem still persists.

noctis had some kind of connection trouble yesterday? Do you use a software firewall on your PC?

I had already turned windows firewall off. What do you mean by a software firewall? This PC is like 6 weeks old, I haven't installed any firewall software but if you have any other ideas let me know.

ok so i have another update.

So for about 2 days i barely got this error at all and i thought things might have sorted themselves out and then now for the past 2 days i can barely play 1 duel from start to finish.

So i did a few tests, i had cmd running in the backround and was pinging the server i was playing on to see if i experience any packet loss when this error occurs in-game and what happens is i get an error in cmd that says: ping transmit failed. General failure. I only get this error once and then it resumes pinging the server regularly.

I asked 2 other israeli players who use the same isp if they have been getting this error since the last update too and one of them has while the other has not at all. I also talked with a few other european players and apparently a few others have been experiencing this same error too. they also experience another problem i experience all the time in which i suddenly get messages that all my friends have disconnected followed by another message a moment later that they have reconnected.
I also played a few games in q3 cpma to see if i get the same error on there but it worked 100% fine.

at the moment I can barely play 1 duel without going 999 at some point and then having to reboot pc just so i can reconnect. I really don't want to have to quit playing QL over such bs problems but I just don't have any idea what to do, please help me.

Friends going offline/online can be caused by either you or them executing a /web_reload or by XMPP connectivity issues.

Aside from a game server connection, QL also keeps an XMPP connection to quakelive.com open to send/receive chat messages and other notifications.

Is it possible that your ISP is assigning you a new IP address while you are in a game? You can check you public IP via http://www.whatismyip.com/
If it changes it would explain why the game server or XMPP connections are stalling out.
You could also look into your cable or DSL modem's configuration web interface and check the external IP and DHCP settings (often found under WAN). A short DHCP lease time would indicate that the modem has to get a new IP from your ISP frequently.

ok, thanks a lot dude, I had ur link (whatismyip) running in the background as i was playing and when i got the same error again i checked whatismyip.com and when i refreshed the page i noticed my ip changed.

So apparently this is the result of my ip randomly changing? If so, what can i do to fix this?

P.S

I'm on windows 7 64-bit.

BTW if i start a practice match after i get this error i then get this error in console: quakelive disconnected: 16 conn authentication failed.

Dont quit quake cause of this issue as its not cause by quake lol.

Its a packet loss issue caused by router/ip settings
theres alot of solutions if you google the problem.

From what I understand its related to ID software's XMPP servers and certain ISPs, just like the issues yesterday ID were having with their XMPP servers which caused the downtime...

I just hope they find a way to fix this.

Guys big update, might have solved this one.

I wanted to check if this error might be as a result of my isp changing my IP address. so I played a few games with http://www.whatismyip.com/ running in the background and waited for the error to appear so i could check if my IP had changed, and once the error appeared I checked the http://www.whatismyip.com/ page I had open and after I refreshed it my IP had changed.

So apparently this is the result of my ip changing I presume. So what do I need to do now to solve this problem?

It seems that due to the holidays personal support by the ID staff is hard to receive.

Complain to your ISP about it.

If you are on a router make the ip static instead of dynamic.

another update, so I was playing duel earlier and I got the same error again (disconnected: 7 connloerror) but my IP didnt change...
This makes no sense as last time the exact same thing happened my IP changed. Really frustrated as I thought I already got this figured out..
So what exactly should I try and change in my router settings? I'm scared of bringing my home network down since other people depend on it working too.
