Releasing SC2 was as dumb as it gets. It's like releasing Quake 5, Reborn, Reflex or any other shitty dumbed down FPS game when QL already exists.

There was nothing wrong with the idea of sc2.
Bw had a huge playerbase, established leagues and events, plus it was getting a little bit old, so it only came natural to release a sequel, possibly to make things even better by improving stuff and attracting new players.

The fact that blizzard totally fucked things up is another story.

what did blizzard fucked up? i see sc2 is still getting all the attention as if its a whore.

Was catered too heavily to professional gaming, without actually catering to professional gaming.

Launched with no chatroom support (or retarded implementation of it, I can't remember), the arcade (ums section) was horrid, had crappy support for mappers anyway.

Basically you would log in, and if you didn't have any mates playing you would feel like you were playing single player until someone typed "gg" at the end of a game. Not something you want when the vast majority of your playerbase has no interest in progaming.

To add to this, if you wanted to play in teams you were offered really poorly made maps, maps which as far as I know were never changed or updated to provide better gameplay for 2on2 etc.

The biggest issue I had personally was the fail chatroom. If you compared bnet 1.0 to bnet 2.0... it's just crazy to try and even fathom what Blizzard were thinking.

Without making this too damn long, they screwed up the units by removing things like spider mines, reaver/shuttle combo which gave players more option in how they played. Majority of the Wings of Liberty release was either trying to stop a deathball from forming, or trying to create a deathball.

It's slowly being fixed but a lot of damage has already been done. Basically Blizzard was lazy and got the rug pulled out from under them by companies like Riot and Valve.

Did you forget that they royally fucked up Diablo 3 in order to rake in more cash? Theyre gonna remove the auction house after making enough money from it, and drag people back into it again with an overpriced expansion pack.

Blizzard is slowly but surely turning into EA. I mean theyre not there yet and they hide it pretty well, and they do have ways to return to their former glory.... but only time will tell :>

one thing i did like about beeing able to select way more units in 1 go, is noobfriendlyness. and to be fair, i expect the pros to be better at micro anyway. i can totally see why this is a win-win for blizzard.

unfortunately this doesnt stop people from playing a-moving with their protoss ball of instant win. tough situation, i wouldnt know what to do to keep it newbfriendly and force the pros to play awesome ;x

So I watched Group A+B of SSL9 and the recent round of SPL afterwards. My conclusion:
Everything about SC2 is utter shit.

For instance: How can it be that an amateur hobby caster like Sayle is MILES ahead of those professional guys in SPL?
They're boring and uninspired, constantly going on about what guy1 could do if this and that happens and how guy2 can react to what theoretically could happen when actually the game is a straight up BO win.
So lame.

I mean, I really like the competitive scene in SC2 with Jaedong and Flash being there and all, but in comparison it's just stupid.
