call me crazy, but those 2 entertained me quite often. the way they avoid the other, its like a game of chess and if22/jibo only have a few pieces left, but somehow stay in the race... sure there might be less insane agressive action compared to a cypher-k1llsen game, but tis still intense, in an evenly matched low scoring dm13 kinda way.

Aren't every single matchup in the article of simple and true fact, or are you saying that the players that Thorin write about did not meet in the semi and grand finals and so on?

Cooller and czm never met again deep in a QuakeLive tournament and they would never both be considered elite players at the same time again, so the rivalry effectively ended at this event.

Z4muZ in my opinion, had it not been for going off on a bit of a drug induced, self mutilation tangent in upper upper sweden, could have been one of the best players ever in quake. I don't count QL as any relevance to the best players in QL btw

Wasn't Z4muZ one of the best players in Quake? He got a 2nd at QuakeCon, he won ESWC 2004, I think he placed 2nd at QLAN behind Cooller in 2003, which was the same year as his QuakeCon.

Plus he has raw talent above everyone of the inactive players. Retired for years, places second out of nowhere in a "new" game? Who does that.

I thought one of the finals zamuz made was him beating cooller in the semi finals on dm13 and dm6. the VODS were on own3d.tv long ago, casted by some random razer dude.

as far as I remember, cooller and z4muz played on lan only at IEM 4 EC (which was held in 2009) in the group stage (cooller won 2:1)

cpma was first used in the CPL 2006 tour IIRC. arqon had some connections to the CPL or was part of some comitee. The discussion of "omg why not OSP" went on till 2008 eswc and was mentioned in almost every interview of that time that I can remember.

Update: I also have Z4muZ's 2003 2nd place trophy. He's actually around, may want to reclaim it someday. And wp today Z4muZ.

my reflections:
I think in QCon2004 reason cooller was #3 was because of some weird map or two he did not at all play on. He had gotten high , but exhausted the map pool luck eventually.

Qcon 2002: by that time fatal1ty was already a lame duck of Q3 with his last outburst, And daler was on top of US scene for a while, so it was hardly a surprise

CXG was indeed a shame. The conditions of the tournament were ridiculous where players were in the room full of RTS people with flash photography and they were walking by actually brushing against people in playoffs. By the time of quarter/semis the building was in chaos and everything went to shit.
The hardware looting was a true story, I've seen pictures with people taking PCs and monitors to hotels

This made me realize it's been 10 years since I/we. had to endure that crap with everyone but it was at least somewhat fun. Oh, and CXG would have had a finals but the hotel is who actually cut us off. The Hills never communicated the correct end time... And the hotel enforced the proper end time :/

In the early era of quake1/quakeworld the missing matchup is
Thresh vs Lakerman (or any other top european player of that time)

We were both saying stupid stuff about each other. I don't think Thresh was in a very good mood (after the loss) when he was writing that so I don't know if he still thinks I'm a "total egotistical, trash-talkin', pimple-faced, assmunch". ;P

On a side note we did get to see clan 9 vs Death Row in a 10map lan series.

In the 2000-2005 era of quakeworld we never got to see reload on qhlan, hence never below matchup happend:

We did get to see 15 vs 15 on between Sweden vs United Kingdom. Later i think there was some likely valid complaints about some swedish players using modified models in the game client...

That's most likely death32c, a map released by id consisting of dm2, dm6 and dm4 somewhat glued together.
At least from the demos I have that was the most used map used for such big games. Though I have some demos of 4v4v4 or 6v6 (can't remember, would have to check) on dm4 in dmm4:)

reminds me of when barrysworld had ztn in the q3 tdm map pool. there was a 4k demo but cant find it anymore.

Only way to experience that madness nowadays is the XS4ALL FFA server where you can have 12-16 ppl on dm4 or ultrav. Not for the faint of heart tho.
