man, I find some of those backward jumps really difficult to pull off... Guess I'll just have to practice. But if strafing is at fast backwards as it is forward, why do people not always face the dueler who is chasing you? You quite often see people turning around and get railed in the back...
Because you need to apply mouse movement to strafe jump, sure you will get visual cues but it'll compromise aiming, but then again, they do do it in duels for visual cues
none of those jumps is impossibly hard by any means. In a scale from 1 to defragtard, they are around a 7. All can be realistically done in an actual duel match and are.
It's humanized scripting, which is pretty much the best way to get a good example of movement. Hardcore bots like what are required for w3spgaz are useless for learning, but at the same time, what will SyncError's shitty strafing teach someone about optimal angles and top-tier movement? Also nothing.
are there any players or videos of anyone using different strafe styles in an actual match? i've played for years and i've only seen one guy do a half beat.
heh i actually consistantly half beat around the map on parts of dm6. i still stick to regular strafing for optimal runspeed though, its just easyer and i think its always faster by a bit.
Best/easiest optimal strafing combo would be using full-beat for the first 4 or so jumps, and then switching to half-beat. Once you get used to it, it's a lot easier. You get to the proper angles much faster, which gives you more time to be precise.
The only reason you don't use half-beat until a certain speed (forget what it is) is because you'd be moving your mouse left on right-side strafes, which is really awkward and unintuitive to do.
Also, half beat beat holds a straighter line, therefore you cover less distance, so in the end, you are faster :) It is not that relevant in QL, but I remember a defrag map palmslane or something like that, which, in VQ3 ive only seen beat by perfect half beat.
The only differences in strafe styles are comfort and ease of use. There is no technical difference between half-beat and inverted backward rightstrafe-only.
Oftentimes, people find single-beat to be faster, and I've seen palmslane beat a dozen times in single-beat. Same goes for w3spgaz red/blue lanes.

thanks for the video, it helps a little. Looks so easy, but I still can't do it, and it seems like most pros do the double strafe jump or rocket jump too... I imagine they aren't consistent with it?
If you can do it forward you can do it backwards. You want to stay close to the wall since that makes the shortest distance. You want to turn 90 degrees and be looking directly away from the RA before jumping and then keep moving the mouse a little further so you're gaining speed in the air. It's just muscle memory and becomes much easier after you land it a few times.
Doing it backwards in an actual game is just silly but strenx used to do it forwards a lot iirc. The double jump to red is only safe if you KNOW they aren't below you waiting for that jump sound so they can pop out and shoot you, its not even safe right after a frag if they get the rail spawn.
Rocket jumping to red is by far the safest option, and the circle jump from lg being 2nd best option since you move through the air a little slow and if u miss the jump you end up in a pretty shit situation.
I undrestand that jump around the wall, even can do it.
Can someone explain cj to the right starting from staircase? Strenx always does it, and that I can't do even close.. Like this http://youtu.be/Ry9iJ4ER0mU @0.14
he's doing a tiny CJ that doesn't start until he's on the LG platform.
start from the edge of LG platform first until you can do it 100% and then try doing it from the stairs. takes a lot of practice to line it up perfectly and execute it in one motion.
