I calculated with the cheapest flight (10000SEK) and the official hotel (about 7500SEK). That is 2700$. Dollar isn't worth much anymore. Could maybe find a bit cheaper hotel of course.

I think some people are sure he's cheating because his LG seems to have improved overnight, MADBALL explains this with him buying a 120 (144?) Hz monitor.

Personally I've always (in the last ~6-12 months) thought his aim was crazy scary and don't see anything but pure, raw aim talent.

If people think he cheats, the best thing is to send him to a LAN so he can show what he's really made of.

Why so we can listen to the list of excuses about how they didn't have 120hz monitors, his first lan(?), etc, etc. If lan events were in abundance, sure. But seeing as this might very well be the only qlive lan event for the year I'd rather have more established players there rather than someone who's "skill" varies so greatly depending on the monitor he's using.

Madball only improved slightly. He had 2,1k+ elo, decent aim, great duel fundamentals. He just needed an alright gear, just that small touch to be able to challenge the really big guys. Lot of times players just need one little advancement to break over a huge barrier and enter a whole new tier.

Exactly. I wouldn't expect the overall level of play to decrease because of 60/120hz. And as to why, I think it's a hobby for some to bitch about things (check out basically any map pool thread :p ).

200 pts is like 2 leagues, from what I gather. If you look at the records of the top players, they get less than 5 points for beating 2k+elo players. However, two leagues away from top 2 player, is still pretty damn good.

I don't see tox winning either to be fair. I think Av3k could win (if he was well-practiced), but it's a long shot. He can be as scary as Evil and Cypher, though one thing he lacks I think is composure, which is key and only the very best have it (Cypher, Evil, Rapha). For me, DaHang could be the best player in the world if he had that, but he just falls apart in playoffs repeatedly.

Cooller is pretty active in TDM (and 125 FPS cups), while strenx was rusty.

40 days is not so short period of time, if one's has an effective training regiment.

I'm not exactly fond of frogs, but strenx at QuakeCon would be nice. One more european, who actually has a good chance to finish in top 3.

It's not that silly, as long as a pic or pics are taken with him wearing the shirt. Maybe high enough res that names can be legible. Volkswagon did something similar last year with Andreas Mikklesen's car for GB Rally. His livery for the rally was made up of 4,000 fans that liked/followed his fan page.

Don't understand why, same card and same paypal that I used a couple of months ago.

What if you remove the card from your paypal, I know there can be issues if you have the same card associated to your account. Or perhaps maybe you could transfer to your paypal account and use it to donate.
Worst case scenario, we could use a bank transfer since it's domestic and I can personally add it to the fund.

I would suggest mimicking a couple of things Memento_Mori did when raising money for DHWinter 2013, such as a list of donators and a graphic showing money raised vs goal amount. Little things do help, and people like recognition of their efforts.

I would also still consider allowing (/begging) a trusted member of the community to collect the funds - from the looks of this thread some people aren't donating simply because they don't know who you are.

1. Some of them wishes to be anonymous actually. I looked into graphs and such but there weren't any good solutions unless you code it yourself.
2. I don't even technically collect the funds, it's just a paypal account I made for him. Either way, he posted about this officially after trust issues by some of you on ESR. I'm not going even further than that. If people still don't trust me or him enough to donate than so be it. I'm not going to beg or create more incentive toward donations, it's up to you yourself.

The russians, although very skilled, have their own community and it's difficult for us to know whom to support. Ash, Pavel, Cooller, Agent might have personal reasons for not going. Would obviously love to have them all there though.

So at this point, which other European player would be so much more obvious to send than tox? I think with LAN experience and general consistency he is one of the best bets. When you see him play and lose, you get the feeling that if he could fix some of his flawed decision-making in duel he'd be unstoppable even in QL. thats what always puzzled me - why people think hes a master of duel even tho he didnt win anything (nor even close) in idtech3 games. if his achievements in Q4 would make him a great QL player then why isnt anyone confused about Vo0 beeing not at the top, even tho he rocked in Painkiller and CPMA? :P

That was before strenx smartened up his play, and strenx wanted to prove he was a better aimer so he of course got straight up raped by the machine.

i rememebr it too, was some bad game tbh i wanted this clash to be a real one. Some top quake. and it was not. strenx played so stupid and tox so passive, it was some very bad games. Maybe they will clash again maybe not.

ye, i also think strenx underperformed and tox sometimes picked up items by accident.
nonetheless tox was hitting some hard trtrtrtrtr. and the trtrtrtrtr is what i like them both for and the main reason why i waited for that game. so for me as a viewer, it was a good game.

I've been asked a few times to handle donations in relationship to this Quakecon. In principle, I would be happy to do it, but due to a new job and some unfortunate scheduling, I won't have any free time until mid July.

Tox is the best aimer ever on q3/ql and incidentally, a quake legend.

He's almost the only one (av3k <3) able to fuck up a big event results by his aim and his unpredictability.

That's why people want to see him going to quakecon and I fully understand that.

sorry tox is all aim and no brain. You can see it in his play, he'll do some amazing move and then NOTHING afterwards to keep the ball rolling. He's a reaction player. He waits for someone else to make a move and then counters. People like Rapha/cypher/evil make you react to what they do, they don't wait for you to do something.


That is why tox is shit.

yeah this tends to happen when he doesnt play enough beforehand i think, too robotic and not straying off the safe path. who knows though how itl go this year :3

the singular problem is that he relies on his aim too much and ONLY plays noobs.

playing someone that aims worse than you gives you so many goddamn bad habits.

Strenx learned properly how to use his aim without over dependance. Tox hasn't learned that at all.

Imagine you are playing a super aiming fag, would you go toe to toe with him when you should? or would you sneak around and do weird shit? If I couldn't out aim tox, then I'd play really weird and crafty.

Now tox vs cypher/evil/k1llsen, they will actually fight him at the proper times, and since tox never practices vs them, he won't know what the fuck to do.

If tox really wanted to become good, he'd handicap himself with a 75hz monitor and play under an alias and learn the proper way to play quake and make moves. Then slowly add back in his aim and then it would overall change his play and he'd be solid as fuck.

Actually it's not a bad habit from playing noobs, it's an issue of confidence vs stronger players. Slightly related, but yeah.

And imagine if he'd be able to relieve this problem until quakecon, he'd definitely be a major threat to all the other top players. I personally think it should be quite easily fixable with some dedication.

1v1 is all about experience and how you practice. You practice situations. Noobs wont put tox in these situations so he gets no practice.

You mentioned that he goes back to playing passive and willingly going out of control after he does something amazing. I was saying it could be an issue with confidence rather than bad habits from playing vs noobs.
Also, there can be advantages with playing people with lower skill as well if you are diligent, you can choose what situations to put yourself in to practice them. It's like that in all sports, you need both strict match-like practice, and you need handicapping practice or focus on specific areas.

you ever watch tox practice? I have seen him play warmup 1v1 on aerowalk for more than 2 hours just owning his pal with aim. That is NOT how to practice duel. You don't practice what you are already good at (lg and aiming) you practice what you aren't good at, mental aspects, control, retaking control etc.

Watching rapha practice? He used to let people go up 4-5 frags and then retake control. Or play so that he doesn't lose a frag.

To change the way you practice is very easy as well. I never said his current (past?) way of practicing was optimal, dunno why you're being so hostile.
Guess we'll see on Quakecon if he has improved any of those areas.

Spart1e, cooller(since he got his ec2), k1llsen all have way better mouse aim than tox. Tox is always ready and that's how he aims.

Of course when Evil just rushes forever tox's aim fell apart because he wasn't ready for some retard just tunelling him.

As I have a bit of a time I want to share a secret with you ) All of the guys are discussing all the times about evil/cypher/rapha whos better and its so hard to choose between them. If u look at all players from top they all can aim, they have good movement,timing, understading the game , calculation of all situations so in these subjects they are the same. When I was young I was asking myself the most important queastions "What seperates me or any other player who didnt win tourmanet yet from them" My conclusion was that its totally nothing, cause all subjects of them game are the same. We all do the same, but still I didnt have answer to my queastion then when I started to participate in big tournaments as a young guy I had a little conversation with Cooller about it. He told me that psychological part of the game, ur motivation and will of winning with believing of the winning makes the diffrence. When I understood it I started to win LAN tournaments. You know young mind is very open for many opinions. It will not analayze it , it wont recognize it , like big water in ocean when u put there something little it will not be recognized. So it came to my mind very strongly and I didnt think of it. When I got older and lost some games,important matches,tournaments I lost the confidence and will of winning. That made a diffrence. So in my opinion rapha,cypher,evil they all have it at the moment and it matters who wants it more ,cause even if one of those guys in last map of bo5 will have bad spawn and will lose few frags he will keep going and believing that he will win. Like cypher on aerowalk at qcon , when u watched his POV u already saw how badly this guy wants to win and how strong mentally he is. Thats why for all this years (+10) we didnt have only one winner and they were new upcomer players coming ,cause they believed and when they reached the basic levels it only what mattered otherwise we would still see tournaments being owned by Zero4, cooller,czm . I was following this game for many years and this is mine and other pros conclusion. Heh I dont even know why I wrote it but I wanted to write something intresting to read :) Anyway back to the subject I think anybody who you would send to quakecon could win if their will and motivation andbeleving will be strong enough. Shape is easy to reach. It takes me to 15 days of full practice to reach my best shape as I had on all tournaments. To make shape in my head to let me win the tournament is much harder and it doesnt take certain amount of time Its just takes human inteligence and proper set up of my mental.Same goes for tox,strenx,cooller etc. Im slowly thinking of trying to do it once more,cause even if I dont play and have many things to do in my real life I still feel empty inside that I didnt finish what I started and when I think only for a second about trying to do it smile on my face is already popping :)I will think about it for few days and I will decide if I go . If I will decide that I want to go and give it all I will start to collect some % of the expenses of my own and try to find sponsor and also will open a new post and if somebody will be willing to donate a bit to see how good ,old Av3k is again swearing to get through these all champions to get to the final and win it, it will be cool :) Guyzz keep touch , remember to take care of urselves,keep smiling, dont hate, make love , one life we have , we should use it the best ;) Keep in thouch brothers :D

I love watching tox play, there is no one like him when it comes to aim.

When you watch his crosshair, especially for rails, it seems so 'raw' - not sure how else to describe it. Kind of like how if a machine 50 years from now with perfect hand eye coordination and relfexes would aim.
