i used apple ipod earbuds a while back just for gaming, there alright but your gonna need to plug'em in your speakers and not on the back of the computer or get one of those extended cables if you're planning on doing that.

why would you use earphones rather then headphones?

It really doesn't matter your not going to get amazing quality out of ear buds so just use something that is noise canceling and like vig1l said something with decent cable or extender. in-ears are as good if not better than any other headphone type. That lots in the market are crap doesn't mean all are. Also they offer the best value for money, by far.

New apple earbuds have nice sound and lots of bass if you like that in your quake.

i remember early 2000 you could get headphones with the strap(?) around the back of your skull instead on top. Wondering if you can still get those, and if they offer anything in comfort? did they even work then?

I had a pair, around those days. Always thought they sounded amazing because of that bass tube, but then I heard my friends DJ headphones and everything changed.
To the OP if you don't want bass and just accuracy, get monitor type headphones.

I saved money for a year, and bought myself some custom molded earphones. 1964-Ears V3. It has been the best investment in sound I have ever made. And I enjoy it now 2 years after I bought them. They are the most sound-cancelling / sound-proof equipment I have ever worn. Definitely worth the price. And the sound quality is from another world. I use these for everything except when at the gym.

I can say they kick BOSE's ass when it comes to noise cancelling. By far. It's like the most closed earplug you will ever own.

Do they take a mold of the ear? Some of the 1k earphones do that. Not sure with the 1964, but its at a good price so was wondering.

They make them just as any custom IEM do. You go to an audiologist locally and get your molds done. Then you send them in to 1964-Ears with a order-form. You will get them sendt to you when they finish and of course after you paid them.

Omg on the price of those. I am not even going to look for reviews if they cost $800 or more it better be the best thing in the world! And it shouldn't be surprising or impressive after you pay that much

They are an absolute bargain. I'm an audiophile btw, with top end hifi/computer audio hardware, and was shocked at how good these are for £30.

LLih has great IEMs, but they're a different level, only necessary for someone with HD/uncompressed music.

Not the Faders, but from what I've read the Pistons punch well above their weight at $20.

haha coincidence I have those E10 earphones too. Lasted longest so far of the ones I take to the gym. SQ is okay. Can't complain since I got them for $10 in sale last year.

i had the e10 with the iphone remote... dont bother with the remote as its rubbish and costs and extra 30 quid.

headphones themselves are great for the money though!

Im using my XBA-H1, and they're pretty(really) good for spotting enemies. Comfort is also a big plus.

Got my xiaomis today they seem nice.
Not broken in yet.

EDIT:
Xiaomis good in-game and do really well with an assortment of music.
SM E10 more bassy, more muffled but still very good at everything, I'd say the xiaomis are clearly better overall especially with all the prog I listen to.
Philips fidelio S1 more soundstaging and less bass than the xiaomis, sounds a lot better with an amp but doesn't really need one, I also find these the most comfortable.
