further obviously. even if it doesnt make any difference for you comfortwise (and most would say having mouse/pad between you and the screen is best) you should still do that because of your health. human eyes arent made for short distance starring and the resulting strain makes eyesight worse (hence nowadays more people wear glasses than ever, directly related to education levels - books & computer screens).

if its about comfort and health id say get a big monitor to allow for a big distance between it and you. another positive effect is that the mouse between you and your monitor will never get in conflict with the screen no matter what.

Enough to be able to see a far away player without leaning in, and enough to use your 'inner' peripheral vision at screen edges.

Some people sit too close, meaning the screen edges are more 'confusing' as they're using extreme outer peripheral vision.

FOV comes into play here of course. If you use FOV 120 you get to see far more information in the center of the screen than FOV 90.

With any FOV lower than 110 and a 24" widescreen panel, arms length + 10cm is generally spot on.

I think you should first consider health recommendations, and only after that your gaming experience. IIRC the recommended viewing distance is somewhere from 50 to 75 or more cm. If it is too short, you can't focus; if it is too long, you can't see the details. If you can't get such a distance with your desk, you should consider getting a larger desk.

This is what I'm working with. Its arms lenght away, but still if I want to play with whats comfortable for me that the mousepad is almost right next to the monitor. I can play with whats in the picture but intime it just slides next to it by itself :D

If the mousepad moves then tape it from corners. I'd just move keyboard up next to mousepad and move the monitor in the middle of the table, and use pillow under ass if necessary (though that right corner/front edge of the table looks shaky).

maybe you coud try to put your monitor in that cornor at a 45 degree angle, and try to sit with an angle to use as much of the desk as possible and get a bit further away.

Its really hard to pull off. As you can see there is a pretty narrow place to sit at my desk, and turning is near impossible. I could swap the cooller pic with my monitor, but then I wont have a place for my mouse.

Why don't you get a desk that is deeper?
You can get a board of wood and some screws and attach it to the back of your current desk or build one for yourself for <50€

While your at it make it wider too and swap the cupboard on the right for some hanging cupboard + a small one under the desk

Depends on screen size. Use whatever distance doesn't hurt your eyes after several hours. I sit a little over 2 feet away from my 27" monitor with good posture (not always) and eyes looking slightly downward at the screen.

Try both. If you have the monitor closer you might want to try experimenting with cg_viewsize .
