My Shine (first edition I think) is working fine, 6KRO Over usb works and the red switches feel amazing while gaming and also when typing. Couldn't be more satisfied.

i got a ducky shine yellow with reds for a couple of months, works fine
if you're satisfied with 6gv2 you could just swap S and some other switch though, that doesnt really require much skill

Yes it did cross my mind to replace the switch, however i dug up this similar thread: http://www.esreality.com/post/2346988/steelseries-6gv2-problem/ and it seems SteelSeries doesn't ship them. There are other websites offering switches luckily, but either way i have to start unsoldering/soldering. Sending it back won't work, my warranty is probably expired (in that case i have nothing to lose and could give it a try though). Also mentioned in that thread is cleaning the area around the switch (removing dust), i'll give that a go first!

I'm using a Ducky DK9008G2 Pro, or something along those lines, with Red switches. It's awesome. I do use the numpad a lot, but I would be just fine without it. I'd like to try a TKL or 60% board, but I'm saving so I can't waste all my money ATM.

Basically, Ducky is a really good company to get a board with, and Brown switches are pretty good for starters as well.

Yes i'm really liking it so far, better than my previous (steelseries 6gv2). The buttons have a lower actuation force and that's comfortable.

Ducky keyboards are very well regarded, I don't think you'd be disappointed with it. You might find browns to be pretty different in terms of feel from your Steelseries (those are reds/blacks right?). I liked them for gaming though before I switched to a topre board. Feels like a linear switch with just the slightest bump in the keystroke.

Tenkeyless or 60% is awesome for gaming since you can keep your mouse closer. It's also a lot more comfortable if you play with your keyboard in your lap since you don't have this fuckhuge numpad hanging off one side.

Going against the grain here but after trying multiple mech keyboards, I prefer the Apple one.

- No need for additional wrist support

- Crazy low profile (both keys and actuation distance) means typing is extremely fast (less up/down finger movement)

- (Insanely) Minimal movement needed to press WASD and surrounding binds/keys.

- Gentle to use, no key bashing necessary

- (Minor) Damn quiet. Doesn't keep the missus up at 3am.

Worth a pop/try as some may be pleasantly surprised. I know others who dislike it too (authors / programmers who are used to mech).

Personal preference of course, I am *not* saying it's objectively better :)

My issue with the apple keyboard is the lack of nkro.
I use PSTD (RDFG) on colemak and more often than not some common key combination I do in game won't register on a non-nkro keyboard.

That would be a game stopper indeed. I only play Quake so 4 is the max needed.

- 2x movement, crouch/walk, change weapon (I use zoom toggle)

crouch, zoom, move in two directions, change weapon, use item

Would be the most I use at once in quake.

Errrr, unless you have 6 fingers, you can't possibly press all those at once :)

Also, how often you do you change weapon and use an item at the same time? Never, or once in 100 games? Far easier to do that one after another, would take 1/5th of a second.

strafe and move forward
Lean down on to C (use item) with my ring finger if strafing in that direction
zoom with space and lean on to N to pull out LG
crouch with A

The point is I never have to stop strafing.

It's not really about the amount, it's more about the clusters of keys that register together, yes most of time I'm not going to use more than 5 keys, but I have had to use 7 with some old controls I had before.

You only need 5 simultaneous key presses (as you (should) have 5 fingers) to be able to play QL unrestricted, the Apple keyboard supports 6.

I was pointing out that I hit more than five sometimes by leaning and sometimes I use less than five fingers by leaning but still use 5-6 buttons.

Perhaps get a mouse with side buttons? :D

either way I use my sidebuttons for chatbinds and push to talk.
