Is CPMA the best choice if you're interested in VQ3-style physics?

I think OSP is a better option, if you want to play VQ3, but it all depends on the servers available in your region.

OSP netcode is miserably bad. CPMA is the better mod if you want to play VQ3.

I used to play OSP with friends on LAN (cause it had better support for tournaments and stuff at the time and no one really got along with CPM physics), so we ended up playing it online too. ;)

TBH the best thing that could happen to the 'arena' subgenre right now is that the QL project is shut down in the next 6 to 12 months.

That way the upcoming and more developer supported games would receive more players, especially as supportive as this community is, and the failure of the simplification of the game and of the intended playerbase split of QL would be a sign to other devs to not do the same in theirs. Let QL die for the greater good.

Plus it would be quite nice that we stop depending of id software and that we finally move on from Q3 :P. There's more, fresher and better things out there (no, not real life). Actually even if we stay in doom4 from id software, still the death of QL would mean the company could focus entirely in doom4 instead of having two separate projects.

I think it's nice that sponge and sync finally decided to do something at work, but it's way too late and the efforts are still way to small. QL is still Q3 after all, which doesn't cut it, and relying on Q3 in 2015 is suicidal. Considering the lack of support for the game (two employees, practically zero development in 6 years until this very week) and complete lack of presence in "e-sports" tournaments (QL is in none), in 2015-2016 we really should consider moving away from quake, to any of those alternatives. However it's obvious that's not going to happen as long as QL is still up and running, so I hope it dies.

Will QL be even "quake" in 2016? There's more modifications on the way. Do you think QL will still be up as a game in 2016? Not even sponge has high hopes on QL lasting very much. Maybe not even id software as a game developer will exist by that time, as they rely on how doom4 will do.

These changes are supposedly destroying quake, but really they only changed 1% of the game, and it still beats any other game around hands down, for my anyway. Quake will always be fast, tricky and plenty of fun.

I still contend the update is not bad, just how it's implemented. 1 or 2 servers in every region with the new sets, and new players being directed there would be a good idea. Players there would get their achievements and constantly teased about going 'classic'/'expert' as the final goal. They would want to because 1) Already an investment in the game 2) The challenge of 'graduating' to 'expert' play 3) More servers and game mode options in region.

Also, people would stop crying about trash coming into tier4 games. Oh, and remove HMG, it makes no sense.

i did my irc time back when i played ET, but now i dont feel like using an external program/webpage to set up my games.

you can run a server on the same pc that you play on.
one instance as the server another to play on.
if you have an old pc you can use that as a server.

find enough peeps and you switch who runs the server so everyone gets 0 ping here and there.

my clan leader runs defrag, cpma, xbattle and insta servers... i think at the same time... off the same machine.

so yea.. you can have a q3 community without paying for servers :D

LG is a treasured weapon like the RL and RG, so technically you should not get those first (nor the HMG from what I have seen). The whole "game dynamics" have changed.

Also imo 100 dmg rail is overpowered at this point. WIth current hardware and current netcode players have too high of a rail accuracy for 100 dmg rail.

I have been trying to get the Loadouts, and be as positive as possible, from a newcomers perspective, but at the end of the day, its just isn't quake, the way people used to progress, from FFA setup to TDM.

So pretty customisable for QL then. If you wanted it in QL, spawn a server, with that dmg for RG, load it out at start, and whatever else you want, in whatever mode, and have your fun. (re: Comment 100)

Still it doesn't seem to balance things out with the loadouts, for the current QL settings. HMG is one instance, someone could just do the old ghey "mg hide behind trick", listen for sound cues and win the FFA, just by firing at the weakest opponents.

OR Just outrageously team sess across maps. Happening right now as we speak. Nice weapon though, just weird balance on loadout, ammo boxes, with current map styles.

The reason why ql came into existence was to keep id's name alive. Back then, after the q4 fail, everybody would have forgotten about the company during all those years it needed to release their next much hyped game, rage, which basically was just another fail. Carmack knew that he had to generate some "hype" inbetween those outrageously long development cycles.

Yeah, they hoped to make some money from it with that in-game advertisement business model. Which failed. Then they moved from free-to-play to paid features and content. Fail? We don't actually know because they don't reveal any numbers, for obvious reasons. And now they're trying another one, dumbifying the game.

Ql still serves it's original purpose though - it keeps an increasingly irrelevant company's name alive. Which I'm sure Tim Willits experiences as a deep humiliation, to see the only game he said he would never release again keeping their tumbling boat afloat. And I'm sure he would get rid off it at the first opportunity if he only could. So, there's where those fuckers owe the community, for its loyalty and their readiness to follow each and every of their excruciatingly retarded moves.

Next, quake as we know it, isn't id's quake. The mods, specifically osp, made the game really take off in the first place. And much of osp's ideas and features is what ql is based on. So there again, huge owing the community.

Fact is, at this point I feel that this game is property more of the community than id. They may just go fuck themselves if they want until their next release of another fail game, I don't care. But they better not try to make the quake community eat shit because they fail business wise at each other turn.
