depends, some did very well like the early SK.sca lineup with blue/xenon/dark/jerry and of course wombat, who owns every game he touches ;) others not so much, but you never know how serious they took cs.

I like quakers, in their huge ego thinking they could be tops in any other game - and any other game would suck besides there own game. Unlike quake players, ive seen Cod/Cs/Sc pros become good in various other games. Just to name people like warmach1ne,nightfall and plazma from cod who all became pretty popular among there level in other games.

Never heard of a quaker player doing well in another game - feel free to proof me wrong, yet i dont really care(meStubborn)...quake players are so insanely stubborn about there game and think its superior to anything else that it gives me a headache, lol.

Its just funny to see people like fatal1ty/stermy and whonot sucking so bad at csgo that i shut down the stream after 2-3 rounds of them playing those titles...

probably because more than half the skills you have to have in Quake, like item timing, movement and the aim style don't transfer at all. Awareness, presence of mind and positioning sort of transfer, but the rest is useless in other games.

You need better reflex and luck in enemy position.

its moreso recoil control which they never get used to and therefor suck at aiming, quake players are used to just hold down mouse 1.

Now maybe its just me, but it feel like most of the CS related skills are weapon related, while in Quake the skillset move further out of the box by involving movement and timing that require a constant awareness of the game on a global scale.

In the end, nothing prevent you from being a mix of both. Both games have specific skills that transfer or do not transfer properly to other games. CS concentrate more on the skills usually observed in the more casual games while Quake concentrate more on the skills on a primary level.

Why don't you make your own list for CS? His list for ql (+ positioning and map knowledge) is quite accurate.

In the end, I was trying to be fair and observe what the essence of each game was bringing on the table. But I just remembered that I actually hate that game because of the retarded shop system that gives unfair advantages to the winners. (Armors, helmets, grenades or even better options in term of weaponry)

If someone won, it is fine, but don't give him rewards as well that carry in the next rounds.

I would rather play COD 1 instead of that lol. The recoil system is not as interesting though, but there is more gameplay options and the game doesn't feature that poor shop system.

No worries, you got 200/100 anyway ! You'll have 3-4 more chances to do better, Cs most of the time only gives you one chance!

- Special Recoil control (not transferable to other games) (++) | transferable to pretty much any other shooter besides the proper Arena shooters, what are u talking about?

- Teamwork (+++) | Teamwork depends...if u play the main mode/s (Duel / CA) youll learn nothing about teamplay....ppl who claim CA had something to do with PROPER teamplay have absolutely no clue, and i mean everyone with that, even if top10 ca players would say so, i stand behind that.

- Strafing (++) | It is hella important in Cs as well!

This is just your list kinda reworked from my sight...some points make no sense at all, since the other game doesnt even have those...neither does any other competitive game...but i just wanted to keep it short and whatnot....cud elaborate alot more on it, but since we're on ESR its getting whined at anyway.

Your list is kinda okay to me already...1-3 things were totally wrong...tbh.

Here's what I have to say about these three points :

- Recoil :
I said not really transferable since CS recoil dampen over time while it usually does not in the other games.

- Aiming :
The one chance precision shot argument has always been flawed because in the end, it is a ratio. If you aim 50% better than your opponent, he will die while you still have 33% hp left.

The only thing having more hp left change is that it smooth everything by removing the error margin. So luck and mistakes don't play as much as a big role as in CS.

- Weapon Management :
In Quake, most situation will require 1 or two specific weapon to be used. For example ;
a) Shotgun for close quarter
b) Mg for low heatlh, medium / high range target
c) Rail for far targets
d) LG for medium range targets, or specific control points (pads)
e) Plasma for far targets which you presume will appear soon
f) Grenades for out of sight targets

And then there is these combo opportunity.

in CS, being limited to only 3 weapons, you are restricted to the following :
a) Knife for close quarter or to gain speed out of combat
b) Pistol (Usually medium range)
c) Depend on loadout (Usually Mid-High range)
d) Grenades for out of range targets.

As for the points being unrelated to the other games.
- Item timing, observed in UT and multiple other games
- Strafing is observed in a lots of Quake-clone, and also play a less major role in CS.

As for the Teamwork, I was mostly referring to CTF since I am a CTF player but I will agree that it is practically non-existant in the other game modes beside TDM.

This may also be a mismatch of terminology, as "strafing" in QL basically refers to strafe-jumping, which is an integral and critical part of the game, whereas my limited stream viewership of Cs makes me think you're talking more about "moving around corners while maintaining aim/awareness on/of the important locations" i.e., being able to walk around in any direction while looking in other directions.

But again, I'm quite ignorant when it comes to Cs mechanics, so I'm hoping you can educate me.

And i had next to no problem hitting a high rank in csgo within 20 hours, which took other people 1000+hours. Just with my aim and movement since its really similiar.

But Quake is alot different for me and therefor i take much longer to learn it.

Me. Duelers are generally bad at other games. A few top CA players can actually migrate game to game (rts even) and do very well.

So why am I global elite after a year, when I used to be +2000 ELO in duel? It's truely annoying to see your kind of comment everywhere, putting everyone in the same bag. Any accomplished quake player CAN be great in any FPS game if the same mindset to be great is here. I'm pretty sure quake was and still is the most demanding in terms of moral strength for competitive FPS'.

Yet the proportion of people playing Duel, a mode where you have to rely only on yourself, is astounding. Few games have that nowadays.

That's because Quake teaches you to be really good at things that all other FPS games severely punish.

Learned how to aim well in Quake? Worthless, because all other games have recoil/spread and no projectile weapons.

Learned how to trickjump and move around the map fast? Worthless, because all other games punish movement over stationary play.

Learned how to dodge shots while fighting? Worthless, because all other games penalize moving and shooting at the same time, also the TTK is so low in all other games that dodging or reacting to your opponent is not a winning strategy.

Got used to brightskins and low-texture environments? Too bad, because all other games have camouflaged player models in detailed environments.

Though if you can unlearn all these bad habits that Quake teaches you, raw skills like aim, positioning, awareness etc do carry over (if you ever actually learned them in Quake), because they are inherent to the genre.

This doesn't mean that Quake takes less skill than CS or other games. You really can't compare them because they belong to completely opposed subgenres of FPS. One game rewards what the other one punishes. Therefore it shouldn't come as a surprise that Quakers have a harder time generalizing/transferring their skills than players of other games, because all the other games are more similar.

That being said, yeah it is funny to see Quake elitists met with a reality check.

team abuse got top 16 at their first cpl, i believe. i think they did it with only 1-3 months total playing time.

abuse was a top 6 q3osp(usa) clan during the early q3 days and won the only major cpm tdm tournament

I'm trying to figure out why most quake duelers blow at cs go(or any other shooter for that matter). CA players seem to be fine, extremerz got automatically placed into legendary eagle master.

I was placed in MGE then got into badge the next two days. Then the same week I just made it into legendary eagle. I saw funnyb's stream and his awareness was pretty poor. Then twister couldn't aim at all, he just panicked.

the reason they blow is because they don't put nearly as much effort into as they did into quake dueling. how are you so fucking stupid that this isn't obvious to you?

my friend is 2200 elo in duel and reached smfc after 700 hours in csgo. i don't think it has anything to do with effort, or at least very little, otherwise cypher would be global elite by now.

Did he do it solo? I was stuck at dmg for a while, played 4-5 games with some friends(read: better than dmg) and 2-3 days later I was smfc. That solidified my notion that ranks are useless. But if he'd done it solo I can concede that he's probably got some above average aim. But that still leaves out the huge part of csgo that is the meta. You can't learn that in 700 hours and if you did it'd still be MM meta. In other words - laughable.

You don't have to put in any effort to be decent at cs go. You just need some awareness, positioning, and being able to aim helps a lot.

But most duelers can't aim better than players their own rank in cs. E.g. You don't have to actively try to not have a seizure when you're aiming.

Speaking of aim in cs is a joke.
It's only reaction time and having crosshair in the right position when you go around the map/camp in def.
There is no time to "aim", track enemy, do a 180, etc, you/they are already dead.

Yeah I can agree. You don't really need the ability to track well in cs go. Cross hair placement is the most important, then reaction time.
Pistol rounds is when you get the highest chance to show off your tracking skills though. I've gotten a few 5ks against eagles with the usps.
Scream has the best aim of anyone in cs go, but a lot of people talk down to him because his smokes/flashbangs/timing isn't the best.

Being able to flick well is very useful in clutch situations at the bomb sites though. That's when I get to shine. (Also shooting people through the gap in dust2 when they cross, lol)

Scream does have the best aim, but he's not as good as he could be simply because he knows he has the best aim :D Goes for headshot taps way too often and dies a lot because of it

Watched some faceit CS and a dreamhack championship a few days ago, and it nearly put me to sleep. I couldn't believe how boring it was. I had some interest in playing, but that flew out of the window.

Yes because of the skins. That's the only reason the game became popular along with a skill ceiling that isn't very high in terms of aiming. It's all about the smoke and flashbang meta.

If you look up videos of cs go on youtube, a lot of the first ones are unboxing skins. Then in-game, many people talk about what skins they have. One of my friends has spent over $900 on skins.

maybe there is too little need for these kind of überpro castings....and maybe its not noob friendly, and wouldnt get enough viewers.
