Verify the integrity of the cache if your using steam. If not I don't know what you should do. It could be your antivirus try disabling it and running it when you are having the issue.

The reason this game dosent work 2014 is because people have gotten used to easy mainstream games that are way to rewarding without any effort.

In my time it took people years to get a frag on someone good but it was ok,it was a good thing and we liked it! I remember Fooki said "to be good you need to be owned over and over and over again". nowdays they cry the rain after one game and quit.

Quake Live is offline, steam is down, failed to load user data... They didn't learn a thing from q4, they didn't learn a thing from ql early days. Even the queue system is gone, just let everything crash. Expect more players but do not upscale your system, makes perfect fucking sense. And I'm paying for this crap, to not being able to play, great. How many more beyond idiotic decisions can they make.

I somehow find this a strange comment...
Because I remember quite a few conversations in which ID claimed that QL was extremely scalable and most of the efforts pre-beta went into making it as scalable as possible.

But I also read that sponge said the same (that they have been fighting against the infrastructure from day 1).
Ofcourse I can't look at the code... but it's kinda strange to on one hand being told that they put a shitload of effort into it, while on the other hand it still sucks ass.

To add a bit on that it's mainly in JC's keynote of 2008 around the 20 minute mark that he starts explaining what kind of numbers they were looking at.
Early development and for "economical sensible player numbers" they were regarding 50k, 500k and 5 million users. When the unannounced alpha signup started they had over 100k people signing up as testers. So they assumed that more than 50k individuals would play QL on a casual basis.
Also ot goes on about gathering lots of statistics for leaderboards and matchmaking.... Where the architecture is build to handle collecting all data from all players simultaneously and continuously. (which is why QL cannot be hosted on regular machines, and thus does not have lan support to the same degree as Q3 did.)

The system definitely cannot handle 50k concurrent users if it was in pain over ~6000.

Maybe they sold or repurposed for other tasks a lot of their server hardware since it wasn't being used for so long. Something similar could have happened with their server bandwidth to the Id offices where the database is.

There also appears to be a software component and this is harder to understand. It really shouldn't be an issue to scale to so many users for the software.

Maybe they forgot to plug in a cable... we don't know and we can't possibly know (well not unless you hack a way into analysing their data-flow etc ;p).

What we do know indicates that the earliest software has been developed with multiple scales in mind (50.000, 500.000, and 5.000.000) for regular players. And fairly early in developement they started to assume that there would be a significant number of players (as more than 100.000 people signed up even before they publically announced signups to be open).

I can't tell where the problem is... Not unless I have more information about it anyway.
I would assume that, if the scale is a known problem before hand, that the software written by a software company would be able to deal with this issue (as it's not very complex to do, you just need to have a plan to add more hardware to it when needed). Also the fact that the QL server can't run on any regular machine hints that their written architecture is thought about. Perhaps not by a sane person, but he did think about it.

I have so hosed my QL account today it's not even funny. Now when i log in it goes to an old account name I used to have before I paid for a PRO membership. And to boot now I've linked it to steam so who knows wtf that means. All I know is I saved my config and I'm awaiting a reply from support. Feel like such an idiot and can't play my game!

I don't see anywhere on QL's site where you retrieve a forgotten email...

I did receive a response from QL support so for now at least I'm happy someone knows I have an issue. Time will tell if they can resolve my issue or if I have forever lost my pro/prem account.

QL support did a fantastic job helping me out and of course in the end, it was my own stupidity which had done me in. Note2Self: keep better track of what email you use to buy a game!

doesnt work for me either currently (and being slow as fuck all day yesterday)...cant join my own server...pretty smart to put your game on steam when your 10$ servers cant even handle more than 2000 ppl.
