Everything depends on how much you're willing to shell out, if you have >350 GBP budget I'd sell the GPU and buy GTX 970 + SSD like Crucial MX100 128 GB / Samsung 840 EVO 120 GB, everything else is pretty fine right now, except you should try OC'ing your CPU.

I think you are right. Buy the SSD and CPU cooler first and try the OC.

If that works well then I don't need to pay 300 euro for a new CPU and I could possibly buy the 970 after selling the 7850, or even without.

I guess I'd see a big boost with that and might not cost too much!

x58 mang, they didnt make those for casuals at the time. some have sata 6gb controllers ;p

besides, i dont believe sata2 is all that limiting to the point where you wont notice the hdd-ssd upgrade. its the instant access time that helps a ton afaik. that said, it obviously limits maximum speeds and it would still be wise to get a proper mobo in the near future to make full use of it.

The most noticeable speed difference from hdd to sdd is seek time, which isnt influenced by sata version.

buy for what you are going to be playing a lot, as in multiplayer games. upgrading for a sp game you're going to play for 20 hours is stupid, and since the only mp games you listed have/are going to have low as shit requirements, there's no reason for you to upgrade either your cpu or gpu. get an ssd.

Ok I spent too long messing around with other stuff so missed out on any Saturday delivery options. SO! I am going to spend some time over the weekend and decide what to do come Monday.

Right now I think a good cooler and an SSD seem like sensible options. Possibly a new graphics card depending on how the cooling goes.

Yeah I think it would be around 300 euros if I go with a new CPU.

Roughly 70 or so for a Noctua NH-U12DX i4 air cooler to try overclocking the CPU I have right now to 3.8-4ghz, since it's currently running at 2.67ghz. I guess I should see a big boost from that and save money.

Regarding the SSD I'll have a look around, not sure if I need to go higher than 120gb or not.

I just have some kinda generic silverstone metallic full tower. Ram size.. It's just normal looking ram, I don't know...

Budget depends on what I get in return, so it's not really a set price until I have a better idea of what I can get for xxxx amount. :)

I think csgo fps depends a lot more on resolution and cpu-power than on gfx (although the one you have is crap

Also I don't think csgo has a fps cap

However, COOLLER is not the correct answer on this occasion. The first thing you should do is buy a SSD and use it as your main hard drive, for OS, programs and quake (of course)

I ordered....

SSD: Crucial mx100 256GB - 90 euro
HDD: WD 3TB External drive - 99 euro
Cooler: Noctua NH-U12DX i4 - 70 euro
Case: Corsair 300R case - 85 euro

Extra: Computer chair (much needed, looks cool - racer style)

So.. I decided to try an OC on my CPU before I consider upgrading the motherboard etc - as a cheaper option. I bought the cooler and case to help with that. The SSD and HDD are a general upgrade. I decided to wait with the graphics card since I'm not really having any problems with any games and it gives me time to save up for a full upgrade next year or something (CPU, MB and GPU).

I also got a new TV n stuff so I kinda blew money elsewhere. :P

I'll post another update when all the stuff arrives and say how the SSD feels and if I have success with the OC! :P

Ok, final post for closure!

My motherboard went and died on me, great timing. This kind of forced (!) me to look at other upgrade options, went with new CPU, motherboard and ram as a more future-proof upgrade.

So... I now run this!

Case: Corsair 300r
CPU: i7 4790K @ 4.4ghz
MB: Asus Maximus VII Ranger
RAM: Corsair Vengeance Pro 16GB DDR 2133mhz
GPU: XFX Radeon R9 280X 3GB
Cooler: Noctua NH-D14 cooler
Storage: Crucial 256MB SSD, 1TB internal, 4TB external HDD

Monitor: 27" 120hz iiyama ProLite G2773HS

Zowie EC2 eVo mouse
QCK+ pad
Logitech G510 keyboard
Sennheiser HD280 pro headphones
New super comfy racer-style computer chair. :)

Wasn't cheap in the end, but god damn it's fast! :) I bought the GPU for 150 euros on ebay, the keyboard for 40 euros on ebay, the headphones from a UT player in NORWAY for 35 euros etc. The rest I bought from amazon and Scan.co.uk at normal prices. The monitor was free from my buddies at Team Dignitas, thanks once again for that!!!

So even from a mix of ebay deals, amazon/scan buys and a kindly gift from Team Dignitas I still ended up spending.... quite a lot. Ended up with a great PC that should last me quite a while though. :)

Total cost: 1300 euros, roughly.

only thing that might to be a bit 'weak' compared to the others components is the graphic card. If i were you i would've gone for the 290X or some nvidia 780/90

Yep totally agree, I did get it for 150 euros though which sealed it for me. It's a massive upgrade from what I had before, but I agree it's the least future proof there. Was looking at a nvidia 970 before but that 280X at 150 from ebay was a steal imo. :)

I have a Q6660 G0 and it works great for me, but in order for me to upgrade RAM too DDR3 I would need a new fucking motherboard. I hate how they push you to do major upgrades every like 5 years.

Yeah I had that old socket on my i7 and in order to buy a new motherboard it was pretty expensive, 200 euros etc. I figured it was dumb to spend that much on an old technology and that's that swung me towards upgrading the CPU, motherboard and RAM.. Was going to have to happen eventually anyway. :P

I feel your pain though man, it's not good. If you decide to upgrade the motherboard I can highly recommend Asus. The bios features alone are pretty damn awesome! :)

I know the feeling. :( I just kinda bit the bullet now and went for a big upgrade, was lucky enough to be able to afford it now so why not. The money woulda went on something else and in a few months I'd be saying I wish I'd got it then! :)

If you can deal with it, no problem. I would recommend keeping an eye on ebay and so on though. There are some really good deals as long as you are willing to wait a bit and keep checking for auctions ending. Also, Ebay kleinanzeigen in Germany. Set the location to all of Germany and just browse the computer hardware/software section. Some GREAT deals pop up there too! I'm sure there are similiar websites in other countries. I used to browse a similiar site in the UK (Gumtree.com).

I'm really indecisive when it comes to buying stuff like this so I'm glad it's over with for a while and I've ended up with what I think is a great machine! A good few weeks of stressing, but now I can relax and enjoy it. :P

Rather pointless to upgrade.

Buy an Intel SSD, 60 / 120 GB, and a few more (at least) 2 TB HDDs. Preferably Hitachi, 5400 / 5900 rpm (since that is the ideal for storing mass amount of data) - cache size is rather irrelevant.

But I guess it doesn't matter anymore.

I was going that direction originally but things kind of spiraled out of control when my motherboard died. Forced my hand a little, into a bigger upgrade. I could have settled for a similar motherboard but it felt like the wrong choice.

I can't recommend SSD enough by the way.. The speed difference is just absolutely incredible. I still get shocked every time it reboots. :)
